Most Alaskans live in parts of Alaska that have a winter average temperature higher than that of the northern Midwest.
We also get gorgeous mild sunburn-free summers with long days.
But frick off, we're full.
Thats because Alaska doesnt count as a real state you smug frick. Its such a shit hole they literally have to pay people to live there. Theres a reason it has the highest addiction, suicide, and divorce rates per capita of any state. Get rekt
You don't get paid to move here, every man, woman and child get a yearly payment from which is currently under attack by greedy politicians and probably won't exist in 10 years
And it does nothing to offset the cost of living here
In what region? The effects aren't homogonous. If you're talking about north America the impact on the coastal regions is that they're more a tropical climate (drought in summer rain only in winter). This is because the trees and wetlands act as a buffer to stabilize weather systems and the mountain forests are for passing rain over the mountains.
Most of the north american buffers (forests and wetlands) are gone so now we have extreme swings in weather and, worse, we have very little groundwater retention (compared to pre 1850-1920) as the aquifers have been slowly draining as the biological processes that used to charge groundwater have been almost totally obliterated.
The ground-water also helps with temperature stabilization... and what most people don't realize is the extent of water removal from the north American craton since the 1800 has been so great that it is actually impacting the buoyancy of the American craton...
It's funny that they're blaming increased seismic activity on the addition of sensors.
Don't you get it, sweaty? Everything is because of global warming. Hot, cold, dry, wet, sun, rain, windy, calm.
Now stop eating meat or owning property and spend all your money on carbon credits to fix the weather. The billionaires need to add an additional story to their beachfront property - uh, to keep it above sea level of course.
This is why we can't have nice things. Global warming and global cooling aren't the same as what people are calling climate change. Climate change is the noticable (and documented) difference in weather patterns in the last 200 years
Due to deforestation and draining wetlands.
You can literally demonstrate climate change with the available data.
These fricktards intentionally conflate solar driven century cycles and the impacts of deforestation and removal of wetlands.

Yeah, there is absolutely no way it's happening this year. I predict that they'll lose most of the snow they've made so far. I really hope this isn't the future for MN/WI but I can't help but feel panicky about it. I haven't xc skied in decades 🙁
I've been hiking my whole life and the differences are plain to see here. Anthropogenic or not the climate's absolutely warming and it's having some pretty bizarre effects. Sad to me that so many delicate alpine environments will be much worse off when I'm my parents' age (and hopefully still going out like they do).
Same.
I have also been watching them fill wetlands and push forests to the brink of collapse. The logging cartels are directly to blame for 70% of the environmental problems and the other 10% is dog-shit antiquated corporate monoculture farming and the last 20% is urban planning and building code which is draconian garbage that fricks watersheds.
>Anthropogenic or not the climate's absolutely warming
Yes, where I live we used to have multiple inches of snow on the ground from mid-November before Thanksgiving until early April. Now we don't see ANY snow until January and just get a couple inches here or there that melt away in a few days maximum. It used to consistently stay well below freezing or into the negatives for weeks on end, now it's in the 30s and 40s in January. People have adjusted to it so much that they don't even remember what it used to be like. The proverbial boiled frog situation. In the past no one would complain about the cold until it got down into single digits or negatives, but earlier this month we had 10-20 degree weather for about a week and everyone was talking about how crazy it was for the weather to be "so cold."
It's like this in central MN as well. I wonder if the buttholes will pay attention when our own forests begin to burn each year. Sadly, the best thing to happen last year was the low AQI day in NYC since it was social media gold. I'm hoping to see raised awareness as more major cities are turned into hellscapes.
Wet forests don't burn, dry ones do. Human mismanagement causes it, but a warmer and drier climate exacerbates it and drastically reduces the margin for error.
Yes, but deforestation and draining wetlands MOVES weather systems around. The droughts in the midwest are a direct result of continual logging of lowland and iner mountain rainforests as well as the draining of wetlands.
Ocean acidification is a direct result of massive populations on the coast dumping un treated yard waste into rivers and oceans.
It's amazing how effectively the media has made this topic impossible to discuss because they polluted the language.

I got shut down for a week due to the weather in mid January, but then again I work for the government. My wagie friends had to use their vacation time.

The part that annoys me the most is that a number of nations are installing green tech like windmills and solar, when it doesn't even make sense to with the conditions that their nation exhibits. So they actually end up being a net loss, in terms of environmental benefit. They predominately do it because it's the "right" and "environmentally friendly" thing to do, ignoring the fact that they're doing more damage instead. It's all optics most of the time.

Increased CO2 is only bad when you are actively suppressing forest recovery and lying about sterilizing the ocean and need a boogie man to blame for removing CO2 capture systems
Thanks for proving my point. Human driven climate change is directly related to deforestation and draining wetlands but this creates temperature extremes and chaotic trends. Ice ages and tropical ages are solar driven.
We have extreme highs and lows and drought because of human but the global climate cycle is solar driven.

CO2 isn't increasing the global temperature, deforestation and ocean pollution are bad for plenty of other reasons. Chasing the goal of reducing the average global temperature will only backfire because nothing we do will stop the natural cycle of the climate and so nothing will ever be enough and/or every step of progress in the right direction will be denigrated for not improving the global temperature and thus not being worth the effort.

You ain't wrong
My point is stop cutting down rainforests if you care about the environment and aren't a moronic boomer. There is no good reason to cut down trees that live for thousands of years and lots of bad ones.
dude, humans removed 70% of the wetlands and 99% of old growth in north America then paved over key watersheds. You don't do that without consequence. Co2 gays are moronic but the reason they push Co2 is so morons won't notice the loggers and real-estate developers raping literally everything while convincing everyone it's not because of deforestation and draining wetlands.
>Of course a bunch of people will die, which is unfortunate, but that was going to happen anyway
how about (You) die right now so i can have more oxygen and live more comfortably?
Planning on moving up to the midwest in the next few years. Last summer in Texas was the most miserable summer Ive experienced and its probably gonna get worse. I keep an eye out on the weather up in ND, WIS and MN and it seems just fine now besides random cold snaps.
Yeah the past few years have actually been rather mild in the upper Midwest. I lived in MN as a kid and still have family there, and I remember there been FEET on the ground each winter, but now they hardly get anything comparatively. I also have a few friends that live in WI and they were saying that the past few years it felt like they barely even had a winter. This year especially.
I remember when I was a kid trying to figure out how there could be 4 seasons in a single year when winter took up 6 whole months of it. In my child mind, snow meant winter so I thought winter was the first 3 AND last 3 months of the year. At least the seasons make more sense now that it doesn't snow until January.
The deeper issue is that there are basically two "stable" seasons (summer and winter) and two transition seasons (spring and fall) as air masses grow and shift. I know what you're saying trust me I grew up in a place with 5-6 months of winter near a city that regularly tops the list of snowiest cities over 100k pop. But fact is "fall" starts like summer and ends like winter, where "spring" starts like winter and ends like summer. The exact timeframe shifts a bit depending on where you are and what the year is like and each part of the year does have unique traits wrt daylight and flora/fauna but the real issue is that the characteristic spring and fall weather are only the midpoint of that transition phase no matter how long your winter is.
When you remove the weather system buffers like wetlands, forests and aquifers you end up with a tropical climate (extreme drought in summer and heavy rainfall/wet conditions in winter).
This happened to Washington and Oregon and the inland northwest.
When you remove the buffers the whole system moves to the extremes.
No, no, it's definitely just the CO2 in the air raising the planet's temperature. Please stop focusing on the very direct, long-term harm caused to the environment by deforestation and industrial-scale monocrop farming so we can continue making money from strip-mining, logging, planting endless corn fields, and generally raping every existing ecosystem for profit. Look at that windmill over there!!! IT'S CARBON NEUTRAL!!! See how much we care about the planet???

Nice strawman. CO2 isn't the only cause of warming, but it is the primary one. A huge amount of research and modeling has been done on these other factors as well, and they're included in every IPCC report. And you're bringing up this other tired strawman that "environmentalists" are some large homogeneous group and don't care about anything but global warming, when that's just not true, and you know it. It's a staple talking point of individuals arguing that nothing should be done to attempt to reduce CO2 emissions and anthropogenic warming.

The short answer is deforistation and the draining of wetlands.
The long answer has to do with thermodynamics, buffers, heat exchange and the polar vortex stability/instability
What was your explanation for last year?
In what region? The effects aren't homogonous. If you're talking about north America the impact on the coastal regions is that they're more a tropical climate (drought in summer rain only in winter).
It's cyclic.
"Days of snow" means jack shit without quantifying the amount of snow on those days.
Because you drive your car too much, eat beef, and aren't paying enough taxes.
