Light refraction, reflection on the bright white surface from the sides and the design ensures whatever light hits it on the wings is going to bounce between the surfaces and cause as much blinding from the sides as possible as a visual. Just my speculation.
But these are all videos the Russians chose to release. If the highlight reels feature near misses and dubious results, it suggests the rest of the footage is even worse.

SPIKE ER can do about 25km, LANCET can go out to 40km
The spike NLOS has a range of 25km and it can be steered on the commander hatch of a tank, moreover it actually works against tanks.
