Assault Rifles are really not that important in the grand scheme of war. The difference between an SA80 and an AR-15 is probably less than 5-10% overall, and for nearly all of the cases where you use your assault rifle, as long as it can reliably put rounds on target then thats all you need. This is why there is such an heir of nationalism around rifles, they are a very visible weapon where the gains are marginal and the impact in minimal.
The things that actually matter in war are things like artilley, tanks, jets, IFVs and many others complex weapon systems, where the UK is actually not doing too bad so its not reall a big deal.

When they are deployed, which tanks, jets and gunships overwhelmingly aren't. When a bong deploys nowadays to places like Mali and Sudan, its just him, his rifle and an MRAP; which is a circumstance where the quality of the rifle is dramatically more important.
It's probably just warriortard realising he needs to change his tune every now and then to avoid being immediately trolled. They don't carry the same stigma because there was nothing materially wrong with the rifles, as opposed to the L85 which had something materially wrong with damn near every aspect of its design and construction. Thats not the same thing. You already know this and you're being disingenuous about it, like every other bong who has ever posted on PrepHole which is why people shit on them and I suspect why warriortard started his noble crusade. Probably because the M16 was a relatively new operating system and it was fixed in about a decade by the designers. While the SA80 was a talentless clone of the AR18 operating system (something that has been around for 20 years) and they couldn't fix it without paying foreign company to do it for them.

That's your dad's one isn't it? Looking at the plastic, that's old as shit.
Emphasis on individual marksmanship, barrel length gives greater accuracy. Sunk cost, got the units and the upgrade is pretty much just furniture anyway, some reinforcement of the barrel I think....
All the Brit anons who've touched it once or twice can attest that the controls are shit, fire selector requires hand off the trigger, magazine release is a stiff as fuck button, no paddle. Safety catch requires the finger off the trigger. The trigger is alright, two stage and allows accuracy. That's the biggest set of issues. I think most realise that it runs fine, actually in winter conditions it is more reliable than others as far as I'm aware. Shorter rifle with same barrel length lends well to urban ops and patroling.
Basically because it works and they've got it at the moment. Cheaper to upgrade the current ones than scrap them and buy new, fundamentally a bullpup system has significant benefits, it's not conventional Vs bullpup it's that the bullpup design is flawed in this case, not universally.
>All the Brit anons who've touched it once or twice can attest that the controls are shit, >fire selector requires hand off the trigger
left hand operates fire selector. right hand still in firing position >magazine release is a stiff as fuck button, no paddle
stiff is good, release is literally a paddle >Safety catch requires the finger off the trigger
the safety can be disengaged and the trigger pulled in one fluid movement
I don't get how you defend this, all of these features force you to take your eyes off the target before you can engage, what about the bolt release, some proper finicky button you push down, which, when compared to an ar platform button you slap it seems stupid. I always just reach over and pull the bolt back myself.
You can't seriously think that a safety you take you finger off the trigger is appropriate, if you think it's fluid compare the the fire selector safety of an ar platform it's very little pressure, done with your thumb while you're on target.
These design choices have 0 benefits and are nothing to do with the choice of bullpup design it's just the guys that made it never designed a rifle before.. go on post yourself in uniform, was it in school or the community centre, did yours even have a fire selector. Im confident I've handled it far more than you

Maybe you're just retarded.
Upgrades usually involve rebuilding the receivers as well. All of the L85 rifles in service still have been given the ship of theseus treatment at this point. Each upgrade is more expensive than what the US military pays for a brand new M4a1
Part of that may be trying to preserve a UK economy by doing things in house and feeding money back to ourselves instead of buying foreign and relying on foreign servicing. I also do not agree that it would be a comparable cost to buying new units, the upgrades likely take the shape of a regular service
It's a nice rifle for travelling it's nice and small, good weight distribution for patroling too nice and rear weighted
The way things are going we should just adopt the L129a1 as the Infantry weapon and give the L119s out as and when needed, like the sterling was to the slr.
I don't know the real story but here's my assumption, first, every country should seek to develop and manufacture their own rifle, even if a copy, to prevent war time supply issues in the future. Next, the SA80 was developed during the era when the bullpup meme was the meta
Well, wouldn't you be? Looking at the absolute state of the modern revolution-tarded world don't you think worrying more about the French and treating your cousins as fellow Englishmen rather than exterminating the traitors seems like a huge mistake?
From what I understand, they don't even think about American independence. It's just another high HDI country created by bongs at this point like Canada, Aussie New zealand. How they ended up independent isn't really a big deal for them since that bacially happened throughout Europe during decolonisation, so comparatively it's whatever.
A few Americans like you think other people only think about you, but the reality is you're huge in population and speak English, so American news is rather pervasive on culture even if they don't really care.
As an Aussie, half the news is about the US or Europe, it's honestly quite annoying.
Some MI6 guys were in close protection training with me and they had 10.5” Commando variants, but this was back in peak GWOT. I remember they were monolithic uppers but the ones that are still two pieces like a drop in omega rail.
how many times will you make these threads?

stay mad then i suppose.
Because we're a country of cunts and it's all been getting steadily worse for well over 70 years now.
I don't know the real story but here's my assumption, first, every country should seek to develop and manufacture their own rifle, even if a copy, to prevent war time supply issues in the future. Next, the SA80 was developed during the era when the bullpup meme was the meta
They refuse to admit defeat. The royal marines are switching completely to AR15
L85 is literally just a bullpupped AR-18
they are still salty about 1776. they wouldnt even take AR-180 so they slapped a cosmetic skin on it
Well, wouldn't you be?
As an Aussie, half the news is about the US or Europe, it's honestly quite annoying.
what gun is that?
looks kino, just a shame the color looks different at front and rear
>resist the AR platform?
uhhhhhhhhhh...
>glock carbine
Fake news
Don't worry, it's the worse one out of the contenders and wont be adopted
You just know they're going to pick a bullpup as their next service rifle
Why don't you go learn Spanish
Some MI6 guys were in close protection training with me and they had 10.5” Commando variants, but this was back in peak GWOT. I remember they were monolithic uppers but the ones that are still two pieces like a drop in omega rail.
holy shit sa 80 is sexy now?
Two LMTs for kiwiland.
