no its not. its a bit salty but otherwise it just tastes like ham and has a similar mouthfeel.
would I eat it every day? frick no, but in terms of camping food or prepping SPAM is god-tier
Texture turned into mouth feel
Savory has turned into umami.
Pretentious shit if you ask me.
I can forgive "umami" because savoury traditionally incorporates salty and spicy, but we made do for years using the word "savoury" or sometimes "flavourful" to also mean what is now meant by umami, even though that's the culinary equivalent of calling a square a "cuboid". Adopting the word therefore does solve a specific problem.
When someone says a dish needs to be more flavourful, there arises the question "what kind of flavour? salty? spicy? sweet?" But when someone says a dish needs to have more umami, we know what is meant.
But there is no point at all to "mouthfeel". How else do you sense texture if not by touch? How else do you touch food if not with your mouth?
When someone says a dish has good texture, obviously what is meant is how it feels in one's mouth. How many food reviews have you encountered describing the texture of a hotdog held in one's hand, as opposed to its texture in one's mouth?

>But there is no point at all to "mouthfeel". How else do you sense texture if not by touch? How else do you touch food if not with your mouth?
A cursory google search tells me that mouthfeel is more than just texture. If you were describing how sex feels would only describe the physical of your wiener on your partner's veganal walls or would you also be describing the wetness, warmth, smell, and even grip of her vegana?
Mouthfeel incorporates the whole sensation of the food in your mouth whereas texture is just the physical property of the food.

>Spam is revolting.
Indeed. But nostalgia is a powerful thing, people love what they were used to eating when they were growing up. Nothing beats mama's cooking even if mama was an objectively terrible cook. You also need to understand that the USA has had processed food for a long time. Advertisements have been lying to people and convincing them that cooking is pointless drudgery and instead everyone should just buy X brand products instead for decades here. Cooking skills are a lost art these days, which is ironic given that anyone can learn from world-class experts for free thanks to the internet. But no, you still have morons like

And who said I was talking down on anyone, I love all sorts of junk I ate as a kid, spam included. I'm simply answering anon's question about why we Americans like it so much.
The "homecooking" or "made from scatch" is an argument from an infinitely moving goalpost, as are many of the DIY or trad tard arguments.
I could bake a loaf of bread using flour, yeast, milk, and salt from the grocery store. But I didn't grow the grain, milk the cow, mine the salt, or use let the yeast propagate naturally, so it's not really homemade.
You're one of those gays that makes one meal a month from you're $500 whole foods grocery haul thinking smugly to yourself that you're doing "real" homecooking when it couldn't be further from the truth.
>Cooking skills are a lost art these days, which is ironic given that anyone can learn from world-class experts for free thanks to the internet.
I know how to cook and I support myself and my family by cooking. It's a rarity for me to allow my family to eat fast food on any occasion other than a road trip. In the last month I've made my own sourdough bread and homemade pizza, French onion soup, Penne al Vodka, German potato salad, butter chicken and dal, chicken fried rice, slow cooked venison stew, ect.
I love spam. The sodium is fricking atrocious and objectively it's completely gross when it slides out of the can, but sliced thin and fried to a golden crisp, glazed with a bit of apple cider vinegar, black pepper, and honey, then put on top some scrambled eggs with some melted Gouda on top, and crunchy salad greens and thin sliced tomato on a lightly toasted bagel, is fricking awesome. And as for nostalgia, I grew up in a Muslim household and never ate spam until I was 20ish after I could finally ditch the religious horseshit. It's heartier and more filling than bacon and a lot easier to cook as well, and fits well into both broadly western and some Asian cuisines. It also is an excellent camping food. Obviously it's a once-in-a-while guilty pleasure rather than a staple, but for all of my education in cooking, I fricking love it.
Are you kidding? It's great. The simple taste of sweet onions and vinegar. A garlicky crouton on top. Mild, melty cheese. If you don't like it, I have you assume you've not had a good one.
>Nothing beats mama's cooking even if mama was an objectively terrible cook.
wrong. I was forced to learn how to cook to eat on a shoestring budget in college. From the moment I realized how bad my mom's cooking actually was, I was disgusted by it.
I don't like chicken feet and I enjoy a good cheese burger (there are A LOT of McDonalds in China. I was at the grand opening of the first one in Shanghai as a wee lil' Chinaman).
But cottage cheese? EWWWW
You should try legit Chinese pork kidney and pork intestines. YUMMIE TO DA MAX.
I find most East Asians are more receptive to the stinkier varieties of cheese. Being a gwao-lai that actually enjoys durian fruit, I think I get why. My dad worked in oil and gas for 40 years and when my family would host Chinese or other Asian clients we would usually cook Cajun food for dinner. They always loved it, lots of rice and spice I suppose. Arabs would get fajitas or other Tex-Mex, and for latinos and Europeans we would do either steaks or BBQ brisket because YEE-HAW Texas!

Lol fair enough, Cajun boudin was always a hit with the Asians too. I remember one group of clients from Sinopec that were flabbergasted that a white family in America owned a rice cooker. >You only think it’s bad because of its weird canned shape.
This, it's good for breakfast, sandwiches, great when mixed in with Mac and cheese or potatoes. Hell spam musubi is unironically one of my favorites. My only real gripe with spam is it's a little saltier than it needs to be but the low sodium flavor is just about right.
If they have tried it, they just ate it straight out of the can which is incorrect. You have to fry spam.
If you cube your spam to add to eggs, fry the spam first then add the eggs so it doesn't get rubbery but a little crisp.
Spam is actually not bad at all. I understand the revulsion to its nature as a less ideal food, but it lasts for years if well kept and is full of fats and protein. It’s extremely cheap and great to keep for emergency food in the event of disaster. What’s more, it’s really not that bad tasting at all. It’s something I typically only eat when I make spam musubi, but I keep a stock of it in case of disaster along with other shelf-stable foods.
I agree spam is fine for taste/food. I also use it primarily as emergency food in the back of the pantry. Spam, rice, beans, canned vegetables, etc last for a long time and taste fine. It’s a great emergency protein dish.
>The frick is wrong with Americans? Spam is revolting.

I'm in Dublin and the stuff is great, take your mashed potato made with butter and cream, now lightly fly a few slices of spam and mash it in. Its really nice. It is a quick cheap and filling nice tasting thing. Go to costco. Get side of salmon for $20. Cut into 5ths. Pan fry salmon in olive oil, dill, salt, pepper. Squirt half a lemon over salmon. Cook 1/2 cup of short grain rice in rice cooker, instapot, or slow cooker. Mix up some teriyaki sauce (cheap as frick and easy to make). Whole thing takes 10 min to cook and is just way better tasting and better for you. $6 and eat like an adult instead of an 8 year old fat kid.
Fake American detected. Spam is a national staple food because of tradition alone, and a side of salmon costs way less than 20. Did you know we have trained bears that catch salmon for us and also dance?
Texan, actually. It doesn’t change the fact that spam is kids food or food for people who don’t have their shit together. Kind of like fast food. You’re either buying for a brood of kids because lets face it sometimes you just don’t have the energy to see your recently cleaned kitchen get dirty again (if you have kids you know this feeling), or because you’re hammered and need some salty ass slop to sober up. College kids also get a pass. Otherwise you can eat better for cheaper with less time, almost always.

Also the only reason you go to costco is to go buy in bulk; otherwise paying 120 yearly and dealing with the costco conga line just to go get "a few things" is a bit daft. >Which I won't do because I get everything at once moron
and there is where your whole "meal for 6 dollars" thing falls apart, because really you went to the store on a 120 dollar run and in the context of even a week are storing a lot of what you've bought away in cabinets and freezers. This might be great for you to neurotically plan out a month of meals ahead of time but for other people it's probably easier to just go to Winco once a week and pick up a couple cans of spam for quick breakfast meat for the week.
>BUT REALLY THE FACTORY MEAT IS ICKY GUYS REALLY
not to mention most meat in stores these days is factory meat anyways, just some cuts are packed nicer.
I like metric but our system has its perks.
My thumb is 1 inch across.
Divide my half, 1/2 inch
Again, 1/4 inch
Once more, thats a pretty darn thin slice of Spam.
How big is 0.3 cm to you?
Really hard to divide out and find tenths this way. Divide by 2 then into 5ths?
>How big is 0.3 cm to you?
3 times 1mm. >Really hard to divide out and find tenths this way. Divide by 2 then into 5ths?
If you grew up with the metric system you'll have had a lot of experience drawing and measuring things to the millimeter in school, so you don't have to divide a cm to get there. >how large is a millimetre though
About as broad as an adult fruit fly I guess. In my mind I know the size without needing an equivalent because I still have the scale of the ruler I used in school in my mind.
>How big is 0.3 cm to you?

>Really hard to divide out and find tenths this way. Divide by 2 then into 5ths?
I think you'll find that once you get used to metric you won't have to try to find divisions in the first place.
Furthermore, you can absolutely think in terms of half a cm or a quarter of a centimeter, it's just not really necessary.
Figuring out what 3mm look like is easy because 1mm is a known length, but if we take the same number in imperial and ask for 30% of an inch people will call you a moron for even asking simply because the system gets people used to thinking in simple divisions while in metric there's always a new meter if you divide one by 10. Doesn't help much with imagining things but it's useful for math.
If you want to imagine distances the classic mm/cm/m/km scale in your head does just fine.
I'd argue better than the imperial system tbf, but I'm sure my own bias is at least part of the reason for that.
Length and weight measurements are a-ok
What I fricking hate with a passion are the measurements they use in cooking and their stupid insistence to measure by volume where weight would make much more sense
I get irrationally angry when I try to search for nutritional facts for an ingredient and the first ten results only show me calories per cup instead of per 100g or even per ounce
Just don't add any salt, as it will already be quite salty.
Yeah sometimes we use deer sausage and do the same loaded macaroni thing. It works the same with potatoes as well instead. Do it up in a skillet and you have a hearty meal.
idk if I shop at the wrong places but a can of spam where I live is like $3.50 and I can get 1lb of ground beef or bacon for $4 or a pound of chicken breast for $2.60. The only reason I don't buy it is because it's just not practical from a cost perspective. I do like putting ground beef, bacon, and cut up french fries in some mac though. >inb4 some euro asks how fat i am
This is three meals worth I don't eat it all at once.
Jalapeno spam lightly toasted, kraft single slice, fried egg, Louisiana hot sauce on an english muffin. Name a better breakfast without mentioning maple syrup.
Swap the spam for a piece of real country ham and fresh jalapeno. And I mean real ham, the dry-cured stuff that doesn't require refrigeration, not the saltwater injected crap that passes for ham in most supermarkets. Get some raclette or maybe some gouda in there instead of the kraft nonsense and that sounds pretty damn good.
Improving the ingredients as you suggest would no doubt make for a dish that was better in many ways. But it would be a different thing entirely. It's like cheap table wine versus some expensive bottle. The former is sometimes the right drink for the occasion and satisfies in a different way than the elevated version.
>If you make something else entirely, that other thing will be better.
Yeah I don't think he quite understands, food doesn't have to sound impressive to be good, it just has to be good.

Sales patterns amongst European working class definitely do not show avoidance of processed foods, though to be sure Americans eat more of it.

Guys, I know we all like being conciliatory and nice, but we all know the difference in processed food lies in how it's processed. While Americanseat quite a lot more processed food and somehow even manage not to eat any fiber quite often, high fructose corn syrup and countless ingredients and processing techniques that aren't even legal in Europe are the real issue.
An apple isn't processed and having them rest for months in an oxygen deprived warehouse in the EU is bad, but having the same apple in questionable chemicals in a warehouse in the US is worse.

*cheese product >Kraft singles do not qualify for the US FDA Pasteurized Processed Cheese[4] labeling. For this reason Kraft labels them Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product to avoid FDA sanctions. Kraft Foods called their Kraft Singles as "Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Food" until the FDA gave a warning in December 2002 stating that the product could not be legally labeled as "Pasteurized Processed Cheese Food" due to the inclusion of milk protein concentrates. Kraft complied with the FDA order by changing the label to the current Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product.[5]
>One of the more famous ad campaigns involved the claim that each ¾ ounce slice contained "five ounces of milk",[6] which makes them taste better than imitation cheese slices made mostly with vegetable oil and water and hardly any milk. The campaign was lambasted for its implications that each slice contained the same amount of calcium as a five-ounce glass of milk and also more calcium than imitation cheese slices, which eventually led to a ruling by the Federal Trade Commission in 1992 that ordered Kraft to stop making false claims in its advertising.

Not "all" American food is like that, just like not "all" European food is top quality.
The American middle and upper class has plenty of access to whole foods. They're so surfeit with (relative) luxury they are now playing the "conscionable" game - oh, I'm so rich, I am willing to pay more to ensure the producer of the foodstuff in X poor country where it comes from gets more profit (Fairtrade), or is kind to animals, or is organic, etc etc. Which is a luruxy poorer nations cannot afford. They also eat so much that obesity and various diseases relating to over-consumption is the main problem, not undernutrition.
But the dubiously-processed trash that American poorgays eat such as in

There's an example in the post. You think the apple waiting in a warehouse dir years before being sold is made up?
Do some googling.
>lean beef doesn't have excessive grease in skillet after browning >high fat content beef does
Hm.
>grease
moron. It's literal water. How do you think that gets in there?

Strain it into a cup and wait for it to cool, there's some water, there's also a lot of grease because you know, rendered fat and whatnot.
If you buy store brand meat that's what you get, if you buy better meat that walmart also sells, you don't get that. If you buy cheap tires they bust if you don't buy cheap tires they last. Simple as.

>American food isn't fricked >okay actually it is, nust drain it
The entire conversation was about the average food quality in America and even food you wouldn't call processed getting fricked with.
Do you think most people buy the expensive shit?
And does the expensive Walmart minced meat say explicitly it has no added water?
If it doesn't it's in there.
You think the apple is representative of the quality of all foods in the USA?

Wrong. The original assertions were as follows:
[...] >It's a kind of middle/upper class snobbery. >Sales patterns amongst European working class definitely do not show avoidance of processed foods
Also wtf is "american cheese" when only 50%of ot actually has to be cheese?
>processing techniques that aren't even legal in Europe
False. The same processing technique used to treat apples is also used in the EU and UK. >An apple isn't processed and having them rest for months in an oxygen deprived warehouse in the EU

False. The same processing technique used to treat apples is also used in the EU and UK. Said chemicals are not "questionable" as they are accepted for processing apples (and other fruits) in the USA, UK, and EU.

The thing about American food everyone ignores is that there is an extremely wide (lol) range of options. You can get cheap processed shit that will give you enough calories to function, or you can get fine artisanal organic shit certified by whatever arbitrary organization. The cost difference isn't that big either, it's just a matter of taste.

Whole Foods isn't the only place that sells organic food in the US. My town has multiple Fresh Thyme locations plus a local market that specializes in fresh/organic stuff. Where are you finding Spam for $1.50? The cheapest I've seen it is $3.00 at Dollar General. It's $4 and change at most grocery stores unless it's on sale for like $1-1.50 off. If you get the store brand it can be cheaper, but it's one of the few products where the store brand usually isn't as good.

when I conscripted in to the IDF they were in the process of phasing that shit out. our version was called "Luf", it was pretty horrible and almost no one would touch that shit, out of a whole company only me and like 2 others would eat that. since we had to return all closed tins after training, the base ran a huge surplus of that shit, so much so that each week there was a day they would serve fried spam as the main meat course in the mess hall.
out in the field, we had these icecream trucks called "Gazlan" - literally Stealer, fricks were price gougers, but you could use those cans to barter with them instead of money.

very salt heavy but pretty bland taste. didnt taste like anything really. slightly greasy, pale colour, very soft with some unknown chunks stuck inside. but if you maneged to fry it, it became pretty good,
I found it eatable even though it looked horrible.
there was a joke around that the owner of the factory that made that slop, donated his body to the factory after his death
Is that shredded meat goat or something? It looks so much like pork but I can not believe the IDF would have pork anywhere near a field kitchen, let alone a ration.

no clue how common it is world wide, but in the IDF its very common.
we usually use squares of toilet paper, you want it quiet thick, so the lower part will soak up the oil and the upper part remains mostly dry so it can catch fire, you light the tips on fire and let it burn, ideally until it burns it self out. you then just throw away the paper and the top of the tuna in the can gets a nice crust and the lower parts simply heat up.
we usually do it our selves, adds some flavor to the blandness of eating tuna all day every day

Cancer takes quite a while to manifest, I doubt they'll blame their time in the army for it, but burnt vegetable oil is highly carcinogenic.
I genuinely wanted to like spam so one day, when I was younger, I got some and asked my dad to prepare it for us, but this thing has so much fricking sodium on it that I swear to God, my blood pressure went up and I got a massive headache just from smelling it.
>Surprisingly well. They pant a lot but if they're seriously overheated you can tell
What's the tell? I have a mutt who gets a haircut once ir twice every summer to prevent exactly that. No Shiba in there though.
With my current chow/terrier it's when he lays down panting in the sun completely on his side. Just because it's unusual for him. Different for every dog though.
well now I'm just irritated since I'm waiting to use this can of spam with bacon, and my parents are away being much more well off than my millennial ass, whatever,I'm gonna make up a fricked up sandwich
in WW2, spam was a B-ration
meaning: it lasted long without going bad and could be served as a replacement for fresh meat when spoilage was a concern
technically not meant for field use but could be used as a C-ration replacement if forced to as the food is edible straight out of the can
soldiers hated it for how often it was served but ended up eating it when they got home anyways
thanks to inertia, it remains in widespread use
>itt: everyone else too busy frothing at the mouth because people like canned food
I love Spam, but all the "flavors" just disgust me for whatever reason. I wouldn't be surprised if I liked them. I've thought about it, considered it, but holding one of those cans, it just revolts me. Really don't know why, feel the same way about "flavored" vienna sausages and potted meat.
Because it's cheap and easy to get, transport and cook and eat at bases. Lots of countries ended up incorporating it after WWII because it was easy to get from the US for cheap, and lots of people incorporated it into their cuisine because it was the only kind of meat they could easily get, and now in a lot of places but particularly where people live around (primarily US) military bases it's as much of a staple food as rice or flour, with the spam usually being a budget ingredient for day-to-day food.
As you can tell whether or not people like it is a contentious topic, but mostly comes down to whether or not you really know how to cook (like actually using the pot meat as an ingredient or marinating it instead of just fricking frying it), whether you can accept the taste and texture (it just tastes like ham but like I mentioned you can marinate it, and the texture is fixed by actually cooking it), and whether or not you can accept eating the processed leftovers from already processed ham (look, if you're some pretentious frick who has an issue with this, consider that this uses all of the animal instead of throwing away a not un-sizeable portion "because it's gross," and allows even poor people to get meat into their diet, which is a good thing). There are however always personal hang-ups; a lot of older people in Britain hate spam because it was the only readily available and non-rationed meat- meaning that they'd regularly be eating the stuff. Being in a country where fricking no one knows how to cook anything but greasy breakfasts, that would probably suck and make you never want to touch the stuff again. My mom hates spam for a similar reason, her family being farmers on the Idaho plain Spam was usually the meat that'd be used instead of actual ham, and her dad didn't like spices of any kind so that usually meant just fried spam.
Basically whether you like spam or not usually comes down to whether you can be creative and actually can cook.
Woohoo cheap meat!
Because it's fricking delicious.
The most basic of examples: slice it about 1/8in thick and fry it up til' reddish brown on each side. Cut that up and put it aside.
Make a box of Mac n Cheese, toss that in after it's finished.
Best meal you can make under $6.
Option 2
Fry as before, except don't cut it up after, just serve it with a can of heated pinto beans and cornbread.
Option 3
Stack them shits on white bread with the condiment of your choice and eat
What the frick? Poor people need to be gassed

The frick is wrong with Americans? Spam is revolting.
We know how to get by.
Christ is amazing how true that is, at least on this shitpile
Cheap is a driving factor
no its not. its a bit salty but otherwise it just tastes like ham and has a similar mouthfeel.
would I eat it every day? frick no, but in terms of camping food or prepping SPAM is god-tier
>mouthfeel
gay
"texture" is the proper word. that is all.
Mouthfeel has been unironically adopted by the culinary world for some reason. Same way that "umami" replaces savory sometimes.
We left the wine snobs unchecked for too long imo.
Then desribe those things. Don’t just say “her pussy has a great wienerfeel”. The frick does that even mean?
>Then desribe those things.
Ah but that's the thing no one does. They just say it was good pussy.
>wienerfeel
Incorporates the flavour of her pussy, emotional connection through her vegana, ease of orgasm for both, and muzzle velocity of squirt, obviously.
Ah, so it's like the fabled zoomer "foodmood"
>But when someone says a dish needs to have more umami, we know what is meant.
have a nice day immediately.
how does wiener mouthfeel?
It's cubed ham bud, all the ends and pieces they cut off of spiral hams, shoulders, etc gets put into a can with some potato jelly. If you can eat a chicken you can't turn up your nose to spam or even potted meat.
Seriously, people that know animals know that chickens are by far the most fricking disgusting things in your grocers meat department. BY FAR.
Personally I find that the little red ditch worms they eat give them the most wonderful mouthfeel.
>potato jelly
Never heard of that. Mashed taters?
BTW, Spam is called Frühstücksfleisch (breakfast meat) here.
But no, you still have morons like
who think that box mix and canned crap aren't only delicious, but economical as well. This is what happens when skills get lost and people just buy whatever is easy instead.

Alhamdulillah, behead those that insult Spam.
>French onion soup,
What's the Anglo obsession with french onion soup? I wish to understand.
Are you kidding? It's great. The simple taste of sweet onions and vinegar. A garlicky crouton on top. Mild, melty cheese. If you don't like it, I have you assume you've not had a good one.
Cheese, carbs, savory.... good shit. We love bread with soup. 40% of us pretend we're in Camelot when we get to rip, tear & dunk that shit.
>pretend we're in Camelot when we get to rip, tear & dunk
I do this with tomato soup and clam chowder as well
>Nothing beats mama's cooking even if mama was an objectively terrible cook.

Mr. Li, we can agree on that. The tough part is my culture convincing yours that cheese is good and yours convincing mine that chicken feet are good.
I don't like chicken feet and I enjoy a good cheese burger (there are A LOT of McDonalds in China. I was at the grand opening of the first one in Shanghai as a wee lil' Chinaman).
But cottage cheese? EWWWW

What's your deal, Chang? We're just trying to discuss the merits of spam
What’s your deal michael gonzalez Washington II?
I already defended the merits of SPAM.
Texan bro here. I used to know the executive chef at Zapata’s in shanghai.
Tony's cha it'll get anyone to eat. I can't tell you how many people marvel at seasoning food.
>woah what's in this stuff it's amazing
Red pepper and too much salt really tickles folks I guess.
>Tony Cha’s it’ll get anyone to eat
Lol fair enough, Cajun boudin was always a hit with the Asians too. I remember one group of clients from Sinopec that were flabbergasted that a white family in America owned a rice cooker. I think they were less fazed by the AR-15s and other rifles we owned than the fact that my mom owned a giant frick off big rice cooker. Oh, the pineapple upside down cake was hit too.

Next week I see him setting up a propane burner with a pot of his own. Gave him my old wood paddle stirring stick for its maiden voyage. It's the little things. He'd always send me home with some duck in chili oil he cooked in his wok. He'd even get into (not mean) shouting matches with my mom over cooking.
You'd be surprised, gwai lo. Orientals don't much like sharp cheese. Though some like fermented tofu, which is about as strong as a... I dunno, Roquefort perhaps. That said even Chinese treat fermented tofu like a biohazard.
>durian fruit
is more of a Southeast Asian thing.
>Cajun food for dinner. They always loved it, lots of rice and spice I suppose
and seafood, and offal. Orientals love well-marinated offal. Picrel.
Ever had 臭豆腐? Its pretty damn good (with spicy sauce), smells like a sewer though.
Yes, that's the bunny. Once. It's not worth it. The taste itself is actually mild; it is the smell that is rank. Moist gym sock rank. And boy does it stick.
I'd much rather have a good cheese.
morons who say spam is bad have never tried it. You only think it’s bad because of its weird canned shape.
Spam is as old as canned food is and it is great when hungry
Spam is unironically pretty decent
>t. Minnesotan
lol your opinion only gets validity when you have a functioning military stupid smelly foreigner
What's wrong with you that you think they are all American? I'm in Dublin and the stuff is great, take your mashed potato made with butter and cream, now lightly fly a few slices of spam and mash it in. Its really nice. It is a quick cheap and filling nice tasting thing. That whole meal is no more than if you want to cut it down a couple of sachets of powdered potato and a can of spam with water that will fill two hungry people and taste nice
>no its not. its a bit salty but otherwise it just tastes like ham and has a similar mouthfeel.
>would I eat it every day? frick no, but in terms of camping food or prepping SPAM is god-tier
It's not there are some really nice heat in the bag MREs that if you bulk with dehydrayted mash potato mix will actually fill you but it is not bad
>I'm in Dublin, and you need potatoes, dehydrated potatoes.
Can't have one pleasant conversation about food without a god damned Irishman piping up and praising their fricking dirt apples.
Don't take the name of the Lord our God in vein. I am Irish by the Grace of God and Thank Him for all His Kindness and Mercy.
You're referring to your Potato Lord? Jesus of Nazareth, the king of spuds and hash, the holy spirit of hashbrowns and father of fries.
You'd be better off worshipping potatoes than sky-daddy, potatoes have done far more for you than the fictional frickwad people have used as their excuse to rape and murder eachother for all of recorded history.
Now color me surprised that you're an atheist.
Who among us could have seen that coming?
>tips fedora
Frick off with your gay God. Only thing you should worship is the Sun. It provides you with life, warmth, food, asks nothing from you.
>dehydrayted mash potato mix
Severely underrated. Also when everyone was panicking over covid initially and buying all the canned food this was never out of stock I was the only one buying it so it's more likely to be on the shelf if things go bad.
Ugh. As an american you sound fat as frick.
>under $6
Go to costco.
Also i haven't seen spam in an mre ever.
Lmao, maybe I just like fixing sos because it's easy, tastes good, and reminds me of camping with my grandfather? Bachelor meals are fine, not every day fine. You sound like you belittle others for using charcoal while firing up your pellet smoker in a thong.
Nah. Just tired of the man children. In my 30s and i just see it more and more. Guys in their 20s acting like their a decade younger. It’s demoralizing as frick.
They’re
I love me chicken tendies and there’s nothing you can do about.
gayGGOT! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
lmao, I don't broadcast my meals for others to see so I don't really know where you're coming from and as long as you're not eating hamburger helper 12 times a week it doesn't really matter.
Just the shit I notice in other people’s carts when checking out. I have no ifea what their meal plans really are, but I can guess. It’s always a fat guy with shitty clothes in his mid 20s.
The record has been corrected
>guys in their 20s acting like kids
Kind of the point dude. I'll put on my big boy pants when I'm out of school
stfu homosexual
SPAM IS GOAT
I think its pork actually.
Its so far processed that its halal.
Eating pork to Muslims is like coalburning to white supremacists. One pork protein molecule makes everything haram, just like merely kissing a black man makes a woman perpetually a coalburner.
Muslims aren't allowed to eat food made by someone who isn't israelite, christian or muslim.
And european food is almost universally grown in pig shit. Note hyperbole.
Also animal butchered by non israeli, christian or muslim is haram according to some interpretations.
Why the frick would they care about pork when there is much bigger problems in their muhammad worship?
>Muslims aren't allowed to eat food made by someone who isn't
Muslim.
>Also animal butchered by non
Muslim.
Or so the authorities say. Because it's a fricking jobs programme in disguise. Racism disguised as religious precept.
>Why the frick would they care about pork when there is much bigger problems in their muhammad worship?
Focuses the population's minds on the petty shit so they won't question why the imams are advocating jihad, marital rape, wife beating, honour killing, pedophilia...
>why the imams are advocating jihad, marital rape, wife beating, honour killing,
Based.
>pedophilia...
Cringe.
The 1400 years of first cousin marriage aren't good either, but at least they get some things right.
Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but I'mma just say that marital rape isn't real. The notion that it can even exist in theory is based on a misunderstanding of what marriage is, which is a contract before god.
*passes mic back to you and leaves stage*
>imams are advocating jihad, marital rape, wife beating, honour killing, pedophilia...
You are saying it like you think it is a bad thing, don't you?
I sound fat because you don't exercise.
I exercise enough to eat whatever I want without giving a shit.
Americans, for the most part, aren't fat because of what we eat. It's the lazy asses who get obese.
But seriously, you're not American or someone who exercises because you'd know a carbo/protein/salt load when you saw one.
Defensive huh? Or ya know, just recognize the kind of people who eat like that. And it always tends to be a certain kind. The fat kind.
This Black person hasnt been to a rural fair in a while. It is 100% diet and 100% self inflicted.
>"eat like an adult and not a fat kid"
>can only eat salmon when it's covered in sugar sauce.
jej. Just jej.
>ive never made teriyaki before
I can tell.
>eat like an adult
you don't eat like an adult, you eat like a homosexual. fish, when pork and beef are available? i'd even take dark meat chicken over salmon. Salmon is good, but only compared to other fish.
>you don't eat like an adult
>seafood yuckky ),:
you sound like jamie-fricking-oliver ranting about chicken nuggets in schools, earnestly saying that schools should fricking take meat off the bone, grind it up, bread it and fry it themselves... for several hundred children who won't give a shit about the difference in taste.. because for this small batch I can make it almost as cheap BUT REALLY THE FACTORY MEAT IS ICKY GUYS REALLY
>1/8in
American measurements are painfully silly.
In my mind I know the size without needing an equivalent because I still have the scale of the ruler I used in school in my mind.
>be me
>bongistani
>measure length using both inches and cm
>hand is 8" or 20cm
>measure height with same
>have to remember height in two systems
>measure weight in pounds, kilograms AND stone
>keep having to flick between three settings on the bathroom scales
Why would you still use stone? I thought that was a boomer thing
cuz I talk to boomers occasionally
Na m8 slap that shit on a grilled cheese and call that the poor man’s cheeseburger.
I like to fry it a bit ,cook up some egg whites throw it between some buttered bread with a bit of cheddar cheese as a sandwich.
You can mince it up, fry it with some bell peppers and onions and then throw it on top of some mac and cheese for a really lazy meal.
hmm, will give that a try anon. usually mince it and mix it with eggs with a dash of A1 steak sauce and some potatoes.
Just don't add any salt, as it will already be quite salty.
Yeah sometimes we use deer sausage and do the same loaded macaroni thing. It works the same with potatoes as well instead. Do it up in a skillet and you have a hearty meal.
I was agreeing with you until you mentioned mac and cheese. I only eat spam with scrambled eggs but add some cheddar to it and it’s perfect.
idk if I shop at the wrong places but a can of spam where I live is like $3.50 and I can get 1lb of ground beef or bacon for $4 or a pound of chicken breast for $2.60. The only reason I don't buy it is because it's just not practical from a cost perspective. I do like putting ground beef, bacon, and cut up french fries in some mac though.
>inb4 some euro asks how fat i am
This is three meals worth I don't eat it all at once.
It's delicious. My grandparents lived in Hawaii for a while and quite literally spam me with spam recipes
Jalapeno spam lightly toasted, kraft single slice, fried egg, Louisiana hot sauce on an english muffin. Name a better breakfast without mentioning maple syrup.
ngl that sounds good
Swap the spam for a piece of real country ham and fresh jalapeno. And I mean real ham, the dry-cured stuff that doesn't require refrigeration, not the saltwater injected crap that passes for ham in most supermarkets. Get some raclette or maybe some gouda in there instead of the kraft nonsense and that sounds pretty damn good.
You have a point but that's what I lived off of in college
Improving the ingredients as you suggest would no doubt make for a dish that was better in many ways. But it would be a different thing entirely. It's like cheap table wine versus some expensive bottle. The former is sometimes the right drink for the occasion and satisfies in a different way than the elevated version.
>If you make something else entirely, that other thing will be better.
Yeah I don't think he quite understands, food doesn't have to sound impressive to be good, it just has to be good.
disgusting
I dont think Ive ever had spam in an MRE or even those crappy meals they make in the galley in the field
US loves processed food and weird shit that wouldnt be considered food in the rest of the world. A lot of people in the phillipenes also like spam, take from that what you will.
Various forcemeats are popular all over Europe and Spam itself is popular in many Asian countries.
>Spam itself is popular in many Asian countries
introduced via rations
>t. asian
>grandparents got spam and corned beef from the bongs post-war
I’m aware. It’s just weird to me when people say something like “only Americans eat Processed food”. I assume the people who say this are non-Americans, so I don’t know how their ignorant of their own nations’ cuisines.
P.S. warm leberkäse from the butcher shop is great.
It's a kind of middle/upper class snobbery.
Sales patterns amongst European working class definitely do not show avoidance of processed foods, though to be sure Americans eat more of it.
>P.S.
For me, it's leberwurst pate.
>It's a kind of middle/upper class snobbery.
>Sales patterns amongst European working class definitely do not show avoidance of processed foods
Also wtf is "american cheese" when only 50%of ot actually has to be cheese?
>but having the same apple in questionable chemicals in a warehouse in the US is worse.
*for years
As an american, american cheese is revolting. It’s like cheese flavored gelatin.
Cheap and easy to ship around the country. While I'll indulge in a bit of cheez wiz on a cracker once in a while it's best to be avoided in all circumstances, even as a kid we'd just shave off slices from a block of cheddar. The people who buy it religiously are the ones who can't go an hour after waking up without a Dr. Pepper.
>Also wtf is "american cheese" when only 50%of ot actually has to be cheese?
*cheese product
>Kraft singles do not qualify for the US FDA Pasteurized Processed Cheese[4] labeling.
Daily reminder that "American Cheese" was invented by slanderous homosexual canadian, projecting his own sense of imposter-dom
Since there's only about 50% cheese in it and the most popular brand doesn't even reach the standard to be able to call itself that I think it could be worse.
But the dubiously-processed trash that American poorgays eat such as in
is what gets the headlines and memes.
So why allow these dubious processed foods? Because the bottom quartile of the American population can't afford the better stuff, OR is unwilling to, and is indulged in their stubbornness for votes.
>Not "all" American food is like that,
No, actually the vast majority of American food is like that in one way or another.
(you) are absolutely moronic, tell us more how you've never been here before.
>no anon, you don't understand, most of the food eaten in America comes from whole foods nowadays
I suggest you have a nice day immediately.
There are only about 500 whole foods in north america, that includes canada.
Now think about the around 200.000 fast food "restaurants" and the fact that 90% of america loves within a 10 mile area of a Walmart.
You live in an extremely small bubble.
You know you can buy fresh meat and vegetables at Wal-Mart, yeah?
>real food
>walmart
>dollar store steak
>bro this apple thet was harvested 5 years ago and rested in a chemical solution that literally shouldn't even be legal is just fine
Have you guys ever wondered why people look so deformed nowadays?
Wow, that's some real insight you have there m'gentleman
Being angry about it won't change reality.
I'm just angry you can use the internet to shitpost but not figure out how to use walmarts website to look at their stock.
>bro, walmart meat is good shit, they pump 10% less water in their meat than the dollar store
Just out of curiosity, what are the steps of Browning minced meat and what happens to the meat once you throw it in a pan?
D-d-d-d-deflection!
Lmao,do you even ow what the word means?
Thanks for confirming that you literally can't even fry minced meat and that walmart "food" is garbage though.
>wal mart has real food
uhhhh
>google it
>>DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW TO BROWN MEAT!!
Perplexing.
Read my posts again, genius.
The whole point was that the "real" food was raped beyond repair as well.
The fact that you don't know why your minced meat releases so much water when fried or that you can't do any basic cooking at all is just the cherry on top.
Shouldn't have been a israeli golem, anon.
There's more than one grade/blend of ground beef out there bud.
You think it's about the blend? Lmao
>lean beef doesn't have excessive grease in skillet after browning
>high fat content beef does
Hm.
>grease
He doesn't know.
HE DOESN'T KNOW

If you were curious you'd use a search engine.
I know how to do it, no search engine will tell me what he knows.
Low IQ Black person.
>American food bad because... because IT JUST IS, OKAY!
There's an example in the post. You think the apple waiting in a warehouse dir years before being sold is made up?
Do some googling.
>grease
Simple as.
>American food isn't fricked
>okay actually it is, nust drain it
The entire conversation was about the average food quality in America and even food you wouldn't call processed getting fricked with.
Do you think most people buy the expensive shit?
And does the expensive Walmart minced meat say explicitly it has no added water?
If it doesn't it's in there.
>You think the apple is representative of the quality of all foods in the USA?
Yes.
>Yes
>high-tech food technology invented in the USA and accepted worldwide including by yurohomosexuals despite their hypocritical protestations to the contrary
As you say.
>used all over the US
>average apple age after harvest in the us is like 4 years
>average age of apples after harvesting job the EU is a couple months
Jej
>actually 9 to 14 months
>same treatment system used in the EU as in the USA
first lie big, then lie small; but always be a lying yuroBlack person, eh anon?
Anon, the question was whether the average apple is subjected to it.
The answer for America is yes, the answer for Europe is no.
Wrong. The original assertions were as follows:
>processing techniques that aren't even legal in Europe
False. The same processing technique used to treat apples is also used in the EU and UK.
>An apple isn't processed and having them rest for months in an oxygen deprived warehouse in the EU
False. The same processing technique used to treat apples is also used in the EU and UK.
>having the same apple in questionable chemicals in a warehouse in the US is worse
False. The same processing technique used to treat apples is also used in the EU and UK. Said chemicals are not "questionable" as they are accepted for processing apples (and other fruits) in the USA, UK, and EU.
Yurohomosexuals try to pretend their countries are so far above the US that US practices are "illegal", implying their countries would NEVER legally allow such practices. FALSE.
>average apple age after harvest in the us is like 4 years
https://www.foodrenegade.com/your-apples-year-old/
It is not, the average age is 9-12 months.
>b-but still old
Don't care, you're saying bullshit. 9-12 months, not "like" four years.
I've found that the only way to get delusional copers to tell the truth is by making them say it in an effort to win.
>inb4 but we're not delusional copers!
You Black folk thought excess water in Walmart meat is grease.
I can smell the third world pajeet in your posts.
>gets called out for making shit up
>y-your just coping!
I don't anybody denied that you CAN get good food in America.
But this whole discussion started because the correct statement that most american food is goyslop was made andsome eetard chimed in and said that whilefoods provide the average meal.
>andsome eetard chimed in and said that whilefoods provide the average meal
I'm sorry wat
>goyslop
Oh it's you again. Still seething over how you literally ran out of potatoes?
He's so easy to pick out. I've never seen anybody but him say "goyslop".
It's a common phrase over in PrepHole
I'd just like to point out not even the Irish ran out of potatoes. They did have a bad blight, but that was caused by external factors they couldn't control due to their thrall status.
Russians meanwhile literally are too stupid to grow potatoes.
i like to use that term for shit like mcdonalds
I don't anybody denied that you CAN get good food in America.
But this whole discussion started because the correct statement that most american food is whilefoods was made andsome eetard chimed in and said that goyslop provide the average meal.
You think the apple is representative of the quality of all foods in the USA?
Grow up.
Also,

>whole foods is the only place you can get real food in the US
Even the dollar store sells shitty steaks.
>There are only about 500 whole foods in north america, that includes canada.
Whole Foods isn't the only place that sells organic food in the US. My town has multiple Fresh Thyme locations plus a local market that specializes in fresh/organic stuff. Of course, it is a hipster-ish college town, but tons of rural folk from the outlying countryside come to work and shop here so AFAIC they have only themselves to blame if they buy their groceries at Walmart.
it says something that that fellow thinks only Whole Foods sells whole foods
very literal-minded thinking
Farmers market is every Sunday in the park downtown in my area.
>wholefoods
If you read the conversation you'll notice that that was what the initial moron said and that it was about the average food people eat, not the availability of better shit.
All this says is that you lack reading comprehension you baboons.
See above, his post continues to talk about how only the poor lower class eats that shit and the enlightened American middle and upper class (which constitute the majority of the population are snobby homosexuals now.
Whiter than you Tyrone.

Hasn't SPAM recently become more expensive than ham itself?
Nah a spam can is like $1.50. Hard to get that much actual ham for the same price, plus it wouldn't be preservable
What rations? Canned foods haven't been in US rations in decades.
Where are you finding Spam for $1.50? The cheapest I've seen it is $3.00 at Dollar General. It's $4 and change at most grocery stores unless it's on sale for like $1-1.50 off. If you get the store brand it can be cheaper, but it's one of the few products where the store brand usually isn't as good.
because its gas as frick simple as
This thread inspired me to fry some Vienna sausages on the stove.
Vienna sausages, and barbecue sauce, now you're speaking my language.
>Ugh.
Food in war needs to be convenient and safe, not magnificent.
>all these neverserves
>never even eaten modern MREs
hilarious how all you morons are forming your arguments on conjecture rather than any true tangible facts
What are you even talking about? No one is even discussing MREs. There also isn't spam in modern MREs unless you count the pork patties.
when I conscripted in to the IDF they were in the process of phasing that shit out. our version was called "Luf", it was pretty horrible and almost no one would touch that shit, out of a whole company only me and like 2 others would eat that. since we had to return all closed tins after training, the base ran a huge surplus of that shit, so much so that each week there was a day they would serve fried spam as the main meat course in the mess hall.
out in the field, we had these icecream trucks called "Gazlan" - literally Stealer, fricks were price gougers, but you could use those cans to barter with them instead of money.
pic related is the gazlan, stealing a soldiers hard earned shekels. and we literally got paid peanuts back in the day
Roach coach, glad to see they're all the same around the world.
>That guy taking a piss on the left.
>out in the field, we had these icecream trucks called "Gazlan" - literally Stealer, fricks were price gougers, but you could use those cans to barter with them instead of money.
Jews israeliteing israelites.
well yeah, but they are the only game in town when you are out training in the field, so its either that or shitty IDF rations
What was the flavor like? Salt heavy like spam? Metallic like liver pâté?
very salt heavy but pretty bland taste. didnt taste like anything really. slightly greasy, pale colour, very soft with some unknown chunks stuck inside. but if you maneged to fry it, it became pretty good,
I found it eatable even though it looked horrible.
there was a joke around that the owner of the factory that made that slop, donated his body to the factory after his death
Is that shredded meat goat or something? It looks so much like pork but I can not believe the IDF would have pork anywhere near a field kitchen, let alone a ration.
burnt tuna with fried spam
everything in the IDF is highly kosher, so much so that during passover they basically let you starve for a week
>burnt tuna
Sweet fancy Moses, I knew they basically force fed you guys canned tuna but I figured they had the good mercy not to burn it brown like a god damned brick of charcoal. I can not even conceive how dry that shit must be when it’s burned.
see
we usually do it our selves, adds some flavor to the blandness of eating tuna all day every day
this
Idk what level of israelite we're getting to but it's not beyond imagination to consider the IDF issuing rations with pork just because it's cheaper
Theres an entire corps in the IDF dedicated to keep things kosher. Every kitchen is devided in to 3 sections and you have triple sets of dishes and cooking equipment
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Rabbinate
probably beef, if only because goat is more expensive
They forced-fed you pork? Cause that's what Spam is.
Nah it was locally produced and Kosher, no clue to this day what it was actually made of
> no clue to this day what it was actually made of
Left over palestanians you guys murdered
might actually be the case, wouldn't be surprised if it was
Is this a thing done in every military?
I have never seen mention online that you can heat up oil tuna with its oil and piece of paper but in FDF people just told to each other how to do it.
I tried it few time, First time it became dry and second time it was coldish
>burnt oil
Yummy, cancer.
I wouldn't worry about it.
no clue how common it is world wide, but in the IDF its very common.
we usually use squares of toilet paper, you want it quiet thick, so the lower part will soak up the oil and the upper part remains mostly dry so it can catch fire, you light the tips on fire and let it burn, ideally until it burns it self out. you then just throw away the paper and the top of the tuna in the can gets a nice crust and the lower parts simply heat up.
>burnt vegetable oil
literally cancer
cool trick tho
Could be, I dunno, never heard of anyone who had adverse reactions...worst case scenario, early ticket out off of mr.schawbs globohomosexual ride
why ?
>why ?
I'm afraid you wouldn't understand, anon.
>Could be, I dunno, never heard of anyone who had adverse reactions
Cancer takes quite a while to manifest, I doubt they'll blame their time in the army for it, but burnt vegetable oil is highly carcinogenic.
>Israel
>schnitzel
This angers me. >:[
Palestinians taste like shit because that's literally what they are, homunculi made of human shit who have been taught to worship Allah.
Based adopting American military foods against your religion. It just works
While the ability to improvise is impressive, I'm not sure the paint on an ammo can is something I'd want to mixing with something I'm going to eat.
The paint is full of lead, which is a metal. I don't know about you, but my grill and my stove are both metal. Seems fine.
Not being a tard with you m8 but I thought you israelites could not it ham? Or am I wrong?
Luf or Loof was a Kosher Spam-alternative, I don't know if it's still a thing.
Ah right never heard of it.
SPAM is good, also
>steam some white rice
>put rice in bowl
>open can of salmon and pour it over the rice, juice and all
>stir
My favorite breakfast food, especially in winter while listening to the audio book One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
I genuinely wanted to like spam so one day, when I was younger, I got some and asked my dad to prepare it for us, but this thing has so much fricking sodium on it that I swear to God, my blood pressure went up and I got a massive headache just from smelling it.
Love me some spam.
Simple as
because it is delicious

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEÈÉEÊÉĒÊĘÊÉ YES YOU DOOOOOOOOÔŒØÒŒ
Can European seethe and cope be weaponized?
The Germans tried that but it just gets out of hand too quickly
I hope not, it would turn them into a global power
Last time we tried 6 million got gassed
The one expressing confusion over your "whilefoods" "goyslop" slipup. But yes American Akitas are great dogs if they have decent owners.
As a vet tech I can safely say that they can be evil little shits too.
Just add a closing parenthesis at the appropriate point.
How do they do in hot weather?
>How do they do in hot weather?
Surprisingly well. They pant a lot but if they're seriously overheated you can tell
Also this. I've done well with my shibas, chows and huskies but I've heard akitas can get overconfident
I guess he'll just keep getting a haircut so I won't have to worry. He seems to enjoy it every time. At least the result.
Stop it. Get some help.
Don't worry, he just gets a trim. Goes from dying from the heat to jumping around in the sun.
>from dying from the heat to jumping around in the sun.
Probably all good then. Dogs are very resilient
Oh also if you're shaving your dog you probably shouldn't. Their coats adapt well to the environment so it'll just cause different kinds of sun damage
REEEEEEEE AMERICANS DO THINGS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEÈÉĘĒË SET RÊ
You seem upset.
Why do anons here say it's been taken out of MREs? Sounds perfect for them.
REEE AMERICA REEEEE
Its fricking disgusting, yet nutrient dense.
notice the yuros refusal to say his exact country
Try asking me directly instead of insinuating it in a post directed at nobody because your zoomer upbringing made you scared offirect confrontations.
>he still hasnt
maybe some poorgay Balt or Scandi dole bludger
well now I'm just irritated since I'm waiting to use this can of spam with bacon, and my parents are away being much more well off than my millennial ass, whatever,I'm gonna make up a fricked up sandwich
Spam with bacon, cheddar, half an egg, and bread if it wasn't 8:40 it'd be an excellent breakfast sammich
How is the bacon spam? I’m curious about that and the jalapeno variety.
Orgasmic if you cook it well
This Chad knows what’s up
this strawman is not a gotcha it just makes you look very sad and desperate

in WW2, spam was a B-ration
meaning: it lasted long without going bad and could be served as a replacement for fresh meat when spoilage was a concern
technically not meant for field use but could be used as a C-ration replacement if forced to as the food is edible straight out of the can
soldiers hated it for how often it was served but ended up eating it when they got home anyways
thanks to inertia, it remains in widespread use
>itt: everyone else too busy frothing at the mouth because people like canned food

Spam sisters…I KNEEL
choose
Hot & spicy > jalapeño > bacon > everything else
I love Spam, but all the "flavors" just disgust me for whatever reason. I wouldn't be surprised if I liked them. I've thought about it, considered it, but holding one of those cans, it just revolts me. Really don't know why, feel the same way about "flavored" vienna sausages and potted meat.
Meanwhile, regular Spam, frickin' love it.
Regular day, anything. If I expect to be out and about for the day, though, I'd probably skip the Hot and Spicy.
black pepper
Less sodium is actually the best.
This. It is still salty as frick but with losing no flavor
Other than being overly salty and lacking in vital minerals, it is a solid choice because it packs good balance of both protein and fat.
Cheap
I dunno what some people's problem here is. Spam is totally acceptable food. Sure it's not great but it's not something i'd complain about.
Because the military is run by a secret Hawaiian cabal
