What’s stopping the Russian navy from sailing up the Pivdennyi river and parking some destroyers and cruisers next to Mykolaiv until the city capitulates from bombardments and saboteurs?
What’s stopping the Russian navy from sailing up the Pivdennyi river and parking some destroyers and cruisers next to Mykolaiv until the city capitulates from bombardments and saboteurs?
Harpoons
For sailing up a narrow river, it's not just Harpoons stopping them.
And mines, and HIMARS, camoflaged MT-12 shore batteries, Brimstone missiles, even ATGMs like Sugma-PP. It would be hilarious to see Russia try.
Close combat is not something ships are great at.
But, they should absolutely do it, I want to see a video of some Uki madlad taking out a Russian cruiser with a Stugna-P
I too, would love to see a T-64 sink a cruiser
The list needs to be expanded.
let's not forget that 90% of the kills in that game are made through arty spam
>ATACM lands on capital ship
>tanks run out of gas near enemy strong point, eventually picked off during retreat
>one side gets more and more shit as the campaign rolls on, just like singleplayer mode
W:RD truly does represent modern combat
God imagine a Wargame: Bloodlands campaign where you play as the Ukies, spend political points to purchase NATO wunderwaffe, and face waves of Russian T-62s
That's basically what all of the Red Dragon campaigns felt like.
>face 192 North Korean tanks and 20 Su-25s with your 3 K2s, but don't worry the American are coming
>face 220 Chinese tanks with your 9 SAS teams and 15 Territorials, but don't worry, the rest of the Commonwealth is coming (and the Americans too)
except the best campaign, bear vs dragon which ends with you taking on t-80s in bmps and t-55s
Neptunes and arty would frick them up super hard.
shore defenses, probably. best way to not get hit by an anti shipping missile is to stay out of its range.
Probably because Ukrainians would wipe out those ships with precision strikes.
The river is too shallow
>shallow
mykolaiv built the moskva and admiral kuznetsov in that river
Pretty sure the Russian sailors threaten to mutiny any time they sail more than 50km west of of Sevastopol these days.
anti ship missiles
such as those that sunk Moskva
>What's stopping
>Russian navy
You already have your answer, there's not a sea force more incompetent on god's blue oceans.
Well, if we ignore the mines.
>Ship sails up river
>Ukis spot it
>Literally roll up 5-30 brimstones and harpoons in the general area
>GG all ships explode
If they had no ASMs they could literally just use direct and indirect artillery on such a predictable and mobility constrained target. Fire enough artillery and it'll be dead soon enough.
Hell, javelins and larger Ukie ATGM's would work given enough of them.
Well for starters, they don't have any cruisers or destroyers in the black sea.
What about Moskva?
Redesignated as a submarine
???
She sank. Did you miss that somehow?
Reread
, no conditions about the ships being functional :^)
Technically the Moskva is in the black sea. :^)
Jej
It's not WWII you dumb frick, you can't just shore bombard from close range, you have missiles.
>you have missiles.
Not since the Moskva converted to a submarine you don't. ACCCCCCCCCCCCK!
A ship sailing up to gun range is the same as a regular gun, except the enemy knows where it is, and it can sink. Russia has a frickton of regular guns, no need to risk a ship costing hundreds of millions t be used as a regular gun.
>Russia has a frickton of regular guns
Shame about their shells, though!
The loss of very expensive Russian ships. Is this even a joke?
>parking some destroyers and cruisers
They don't have any left in the Black Sea fleet. It's all down to some frigates, patrol boats and submarines.
Biden, Joe Biden
Common sense, so technically nothing.
Because noone has built armored ships suitable for coastal/River operations for a century
For a guy who whines about trannies out of nowhere you seem to be quite capable at denying reality yourself
Apparently Russians are stupid, but not as fricking stupid as you are.
This is the dumbest fricking idea I've read in a long time. Do you really struggle to imagine what would happen if they just sail their navy into a river, in the middle of a land war that's dominated by long range artillery? Actual cosmetic brain.
Mines. Just ask the Estonian ship, Helt
Lets see:
>harpoons
>neptuns
>tube artillery
>rocket artillery
>naval mines
you're one of those midwits who think that puccia didn't carpet bomb ukraine because they're sparing civillians?
You forgot Exocets. French have delivered some.
Almost everyone forgot to mention MT-12 towed AT guns, which in a confined channel like the Pivdennyi would be serious coastal artillery.
Modern ships are very thin when it comes to armor, would be interesting to see them get obliterated by rpgs and bmp 1 autocannons. Funnily enough they might make it further with a ww1/2 ship than the modern stuff.
Yeah just move unarmored ships up a river that's completely within Ukrainian artillery range.
>What’s stopping the Russian navy
Land based Harpoon launchers.
Simple as.
they don't need to sail up there to bomb the city. they simply don't want to because it's not politically viable. same reason why they don't drop a nuke on it.
besides sailing up there would make those ships too easy to shoot.
>sailing up
The Russian navy is only designed to destroy other ships and blockade which it had done completely already the surface fleet isn't designed to shell the coast with 180mm the submarines do that with missiles instead
