Uhhhhhhh, bruh, the ATF is a federal agency, they go where they want and get to arrest you, doesn't matter what state moron. Local cops have never enforced stamps they have no jurisdiction.
>get to arrest you
they can arrest you for eating ice cream without a license, but the 5th circuit court (which covers texas and louisiana) just b***hslapped the ATF over their bump stock ban, specifically calling them out for changing their rules to make bump stocks illegal after having previously stating they were legal, and for issuing rulings that have criminal penalties which is something only the legislature can do and something the legislature may not delegate away.
the pistol brace ruling isn't actually out yet, so of course there aren't any court cases for it. read the bump stock decision linked above, the 5th circuit smacks the ATF around *hard* for a lot of the same frickery they're pulling in their upcoming pistol brace ruling.
That's an old trick from the pre-brace era of AR pistols. Under the new rule it would be considered a rifle stock and allow you to avoid the SBR tax stamp money.
I guess it could depend on if it became a stock under the new rule or not. If it was not a stock, and I don't think it was but now would be due to creating surface area that could be used to shoulder, then I feel like a case a could be made that i should be exempt to the fee. Who is going to fight it anyway?
I just put a 16" barrel on my rifle, don't care. The suppressor will work better and cooler now and I still have a 10mm in my console. So, like whatever. I hate that's a moral victory for them but it will be short lived. You cant' write a 100% subjective "rule" designed solely to let you pick and choose who you will enforce it against which is exactly what they did. It's highly illegal of them and a complete violation of the 14th amendment. They also can't completely ban braces because of the ADA and the fact they already allowed them. Any more specific rules they try to come up with will only be sidestepped once more by the gun community. They are completely fricked on enforcing this one. It will get turned over. They are just maliciously causing problems in the meantime.
Do you live in a home? If so an SBR would be great for you.
Not only are SBR's great for defending your home, they are also great for using in a neighborhood and in cities.
In fact SBR's are great for 99% of all scenarios; you will never be shooting a "bad guy" at 500 yards with your full length battle rifle, even if society collapses.
If Armageddon happened tomorrow you would be better off in most scenarios with an SBR than a long barreled rifle; which is why feds want to ban SBRs or make them hard to "legally" obtain.

I generally go with a suppressed handgun with a light for the nightstand gun. An SBR would not be a bad choice if it were suppressed.

how about you stop obeying homosexual "rulings" and do whatever you want?
every AR needs a stock
isn't. Not only that but while you can use an SBR for home defense with some merit, lots of power and capacity. However, I prefer the handgun because I can easily use it truly one handed and still have a free hand for doors, switches, pets, children or whatever. Yes it lacks power, I'll give you that.
For me the merit of a braced weapon was that it fell under the rules of a pistol, meaning I could keep it loaded on me in the car. An SBR is very nice for that purpose. However, in my state I am only allowed to have a loaded pistol in the car and not a rifle. So an SBR is useless to me and inferior to a 16". I dont' want an illegal gun because I use my guns, carry my guns, have my guns. What happens if you use that and then the cops show up or you're in a car crash or whatever? Your career is over, is your time owning guns is over etc..
Regardless of all that, I'd personally rather have a 16" rifle and be trained with accurate use of a handgun in case I need quick access to one. I also prefer shooting handguns in general.

Why not go with something like a Hi Point carbine chambered for .45 ACP?

.45acp 230gr is indeed naturally subsonic, same as 147gr 9mm and both are relatively quiet out of a 16" barrel.
Statistically, there is no difference in outcome between use of 9mm and .45acp. There is no functional difference. I would go the 9mm instead or 10mm because I love 10mm and the extra penetration abilities are useful in some situations.
However, my argument is the same. I have a trained a lot for a long time with pistols. I can hit what I'm aiming at real good with a handgun. So to me a handgun is just better for moving around corners and being able to use 1 handed.
Let's say hypothetically you hear a bump in the night. What do you do? You aren't going to call the cops if you don't know what it is. You're going to go find it. You're going to take your HD weapon of choice. Now picture yourself exiting your bedroom. You're in a narrow hallway. Now you have to turn a sharp corner. At any moment an intruder could lunge at you with zero a zero distance gap. If you chose a longer gun, they may have grabbed the barrel first as you rounded that corner with it. You have to take your support hand off to manipulate door handles and light switches. My belief is that a handgun is something I can keep closer to my body, manage tight corners better with and still retain 90% use while my support hand is occupied elsewise.
Then if I actually do have to shoot it, I keep a short suppressor on it which is still loud enough to scare someone but is light enough the gun cycles confidently. It will also not cause permanent hearing damage. The trade off is that the handgun lacks stopping power. So, training is even more important.
Just out of curiousity, how many times have you practiced clearing your house with your gun? I'd recommend it.

You're right. I actually skimmed through the 294 page document the other night. It's troubling because it's subjective. There were like 6 things they look at but I remember these 3 the most:
1. Surface area that could be used to shoulder but the ATF refuses to define a maximum amount.
2. An optic with eye relief requiring it to be held like a rifle but no defined eye relief
3. Promotional material and videos showing the item being shouldered but we live in an age of social media and influencers.
They are saying that they will look at these and decide. They also use the word "objective" feature a whole bunch of times which should be a clue that they will be making entirely "subjective" decisions on enforcement. They've made a rule specifically to allow subjective enforcement. This is not allowed and is a type of thing that has been struck down repeatedly when it did not involve firearms. It's a 14th amendment issue.

Yeah but its not going to stay forever, there is a precedent for courts to shoot down ATF rulings

it's only a precedent in the 5th circuit. decisions in one circuit court have no precedential weight in other circuits. until the ATF appeals to the supreme court - and the SC takes up the case - and rules that the 5th circuit got it exactly right - the 5th circuit ruling only has any meaning in the area in the jurisdiction of the 5th circuit. the only court decision that provides precedence for striking down the brace ban is the bump stock decision (and that 13-3 decision is a potential indicator of how well the pistol brace ruling is likely to go over) but that decision is only relevant in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. so there's a good chance that if the 5th circuit gets a pistol brace case that they'll strike it down as well - but only in the 5th circuit.

Plz explain velocity differences between different barrel lengths
As long as the pressure behind the projectile is above the pressure in front of the projectile (friction complicates this slightly) the projectile will continue to accelerate.
remember when people said this about those newfangled 24" carbine barrels? real rifles have 29" barrels to properly burn all that powder.
Depends on your cartridge.
Additionally, even for rifle cartridges where that does happen, they STILL massively outperform pistol calibers, even including magnum calibers.
Just put a brace on and say whoops didn't know there was a new ruling.
>Talks about "registering" memes
>Everybody else argues over the details of the law autisitically
>Nobody actually talking about big picture stuff like getting rid of the whole NFA and AFT all together
So this is how it all ends?
I vote for elaborate trolling and mass false filings
>I do it for the memes
Right, has that ever worked or is this going to be yet another 2020 moment of failure followed by massive amounts of cope and larp?
It extends the wait times and emphasizes how fricking unenforceable this shit is
>2 more weeks.
Got it.
