I like this idea that America is responsible for Hispanic countries being drug-addled shitholes, as if Hispanics aren't perfectly capable of making that happen themselves.
They are, but American intelligence agencies are outright responsible for most of it. The situation would be nowhere as bad as it is if not for the CIA and the DEA.
LatAm sure have their fair share of the guilt, but fucking with their democracies for decades was a huge part of why they're all shitholes and why they're all siding with China now.
Well, that would have been funny, as it would have reduced Chile to Bolivia tier level of economy.
The only people who cite Allende doesn't know in Peru happened exactly the contrary, we got fucking Velasco, he implemented a lot of socialist reforms, meanwhile Chile got Pinochet implementing capitalist reforms.
Guess what country has higher standards of living nowadays, no wait, just look at the graphics.
If it's truth the CIA killed Velasco then by all means, thank you CIA, you should do these sort of things more often.

Because countries are not closed self-contained systems, at least countries which don't want to end up attempting autarchic experiments such as North Korea, you need allies, and you need to choose good allies.
Another reality check, Peru got 250 T-55s from the USSR, nowadays it's calculated only 150 are operational, for a given value of operational, Chile has, among other tanks, 140 Leopards 2A4 and many of them have been recently updated, given decades of economic mismanagement we simply can't afford to keep up in an arms race, so instead Peru has a defensive strategy which is a combination of russian AT systems (we can hope they don't end up chasing the operator like we have seen in Ukraine), not provoking Chile and, in case there is some border dispute, first whining at the International Court of Justice as both Chile and Peru are members of and for the most part comply to their judgement.
In fact, we actually won back some sea, all things considered our lawyers are far better than our military at taking over land, yeah:
They either have power and then immediately overthrow their governments with Spanish and Portuguese fascists and former Nazis pulling the strings with everything being blamed on the CIA, or their military is inept.
>CIA coups all of Latin America cus Cold War >Junta propaganda says it's a 100% organic movement to save the country from le gommunism >Dumb boomers grow up with propaganda and now they think the army can save the country from le gommunism again >They don't coup of the country because fat boomers ain't the CIA >Zoomers hated the army because they never bothered to repeal the dumb Junta-era draft > Leftists always hated the Army for being a drain of money >Now the boomers hate them too for "betraying" the country

Plus the image of "moral compass" was thrown into the shitter because they supported some pathetic attempt of Tropical Trump, now they have to obey orders of the commie they hate for the third time lmao
Here in Brazil it was 100% organic, americans just gave us a bit of logistical backup, in fact i would say it was a inevitable event that was set in motion when the commies inside the armed forces atemped a a coup some 30ish years prior during the "Intentona", that generation of young officers never forgave and forgot being shot while sleeping by communist officers so when they got to power shit was bound to go down, thats why our military crisis started years before CIA got involved and it didnt stop after the US backed off and shunned us either.
little known fact americans gave more money to the leftists than it gave the goverment initialy thru NGOs funded by the state deparment (like the ford foundation). they were meant to fund democratic opposition but ended up being used to buy guns to guerillas.
And when i say 100% organic i mean the army already had revolutionary anti-communist prospects and the middle class was already more worried about communist infiltration ever since the press revealed that the peasant leagues up north were getting money and guns from the CCP, so while the CIA did engage in "manufactured consent" gay reddit shit that they and the KGB loved doing thru NGOs (in this case the "Instituto de Pesquisas e Estudos Sociais" which wasnt a CIA NGO per se but got money from them), it didnt do very much to change the already chaotic enviroment.

most men and women like to play around but eventually marry people like them, it's not a great mystery despite all the hysteria, and numbers prove it.
The Upper class of ANY south american country is full of white people or they mongrels, the more white mongrel you are, the higher your status. Only being a celebrity, singer or sport star makes any darkish man have any chance (that or a criminal, but then criminals in south america have short lives). Of course it helps a lot to not be a friggin autist and knowing latinas despise weakness.
In Peru is ensuring the presence of the state over our territory.
Peru's population distribution makes it so, a third of the population is crowded in Lima which for the most part has an already overworked police force and a not too brilliant judiciary system along with all the usual amenities and shortcomings of a developing megalopolis. most of our other major cities are quite similar on this regard, and then you have over a million square kilometers with small pockets of rural and little town population, we use our armed forces to give coverage to these outposts of human existence and too often the armed forces are the only representatives of the central government.
So, basically Afghanistan, if Afghanistan had an actual national identity forged during 200 years instead of just tribal grudges, Islamism and poppy and Kabul was capable to tell the adjacent territories how it is going to be and you better obey or else..., while of course offering some real civilization perks in exchange, you know, medical supplies, democratic and legal institutions, a real semblance of security, internet, mobile phones, electric generators, processed foods, etc.
In most of Latin America is more or less the same, is it ideal? I bet you not, but it's the best we could come with given our own regional circumstances.
When I visited my in laws in Lima it seems like its a completely different country when compared to the rest of the country. Miraflores was pretty decent
The core districts of Lima (Miraflores, San Isidro, San Borja, La Molina, Jesus Maria, etc) are for the most part what you will expect in a developed country with crystal skyscrapers, parks and overall well constructed and maintained infrastructure, the municipalities are often low on corruption and boost solid management, there are some neighbors in those districts which aren't that nice but are still ok, all these districts are what we call "Lima Clásica", populated by rich and upper middle class
Then there is the districts such as Ate, Santa Anita, Villa el Salvador, Sand Juan de Lurigancho, they have mid and lower middle class as well as what we call emerging classes, the municipalities there are not as efficient and there are prone to some corruption, but they can still make for enough infrastructure and security to make life bearable, and for the most part no one will die of hunger.
Then there are the "problematic" districts, places such El Agustino, San Martin and Comas and the shanty towns, when people think about South American cities these are the places they are thinking about, if you want to be generous let's just say they are going through the same process the US cities of the eastern cost went in the late 18th and early 19th century, with high levels of immigration, municipal management still being run like a mafia etc. They still won't die out of hunger thanks to, eh, an strong informal market, but often they are the ones suffering the most when a crisis happens, for example a lot of people died from COVID there because you got 2 to 4 families living in the same building and having to go to markets due not having freezers, yeah, also no water, they have to buy it from tanker trucks, you have to admire how despite this most of this people still manage to look relatively clean.
Well, as you can imagine there is a certain reflection of the social hierarchy in the armed forces, you get HQ from Lima Clasica, the mid ranks from the emergent districts and the rank and file of soldiers from the outer periphery, that is not to say the system is fixed, for example my grandfather came from provinces and lived in the problematic parts of the city, yet he retired as a general.
In Peru, even more than in other places, the armed forces are seen as a way to climb the socioeconomic ladder, also, being the most coherent institution it of course has taken control over the country a few times, depending on one's luck you could have a more or less smart guy who will invest in infrastructure if only to get some dirty cash or you could end up with some nut who had no fucking idea what he was doing.
Of late the armed forces have tried to avoid getting into politics, something which has allowed them to remain with a comparatively high level of credibility if national polls are any indication, they have supported the rule of democracy, but from time to time you could still hear some people wishing they were unleashed upon criminal organizations, common thugs and/or the more radical elements of our political class (in Peru sometimes is too hard to see the difference, we are a wet's dream for crime journalists) and "clean house" in a way which will annoy the CIDH to no end.
Socioeconomic sector A starts at 12,600 soles which is around 3300 dollars, while this may not look like much, even in Lima this should be enough to get a 10x10m cozy apartment for 800-1000 dollars in Miraflores for and enough bucks left to buy all the assorted commodities and electronics along with usual insurances and daily expenditures, or alternatively you can buy an apartment, depending on what district is it you can get a far larger department, but neighbor quality may quickly degrade as noise, trash and people with lack of education (eg, set up a noisy metalwork shop) start to appear, the core districts are relatively safe on that regard, with municipal management sending watchmen and police to "inform" you are disrupting public peace, but the periphery doesn't have that advantage and you may require to be on alert and endure more nuisances.
In general terms life in the provinces of Peru are cheaper, although of course work opportunities are not that lucrative for the rank and file and local management are not nearly as efficient as Lima's core districts, your best shot is often to work for a major company, start some (informal) business and not to be too picky with your own family, you will find often families make pools to buy assets or build up apartments, houses sometimes start with 1 or 2 floors and end up with 3 to 5, each one occupied by a branch of family, given economic conditions and our bank system history (we got a dumbasses printing money without backup in the name of social justice) this isn't seen as bad as in, say, USA, and considering how real estate is evolving I guess it's already becoming the new standard, which funnily enough was how family and real estate worked before 20th century economic booms.
Back on the talk of defense this whole story means any invading force will have a horribly complicated task holding Lima.

So, what does this has to do with the military?
Well, as you can imagine there is a certain reflection of the social hierarchy in the armed forces, you get HQ from Lima Clasica, the mid ranks from the emergent districts and the rank and file of soldiers from the outer periphery, that is not to say the system is fixed, for example my grandfather came from provinces and lived in the problematic parts of the city, yet he retired as a general.

>tfw my fuckup brother (I am also a fuckup) joins the FFL >gets deployed to Guyana >for some reason immediately falls in love with the place >works real hard for a transfer into 3REI which is situated there >makes it >supposedly its so full of nazis people call it 3REIch instead >does another three years there before deserting >moves to Brazil, starts working as a civilian contractor for their military >now he spends his days snorting coke on the beach and fucking thick latina prostitutes >by his words, this is a fairly regular Brazilian military employee experience
All in all, I think they are pretty good.
It varies from country to country but generally they so stuff like coups, preventing coups, go out into the streets when martial law is a thing (usually happens once or twice a year) shoot at rioters when rioting happens and stuff like that.
War between SA countries hasn't happened in a long while but that doesn't mean that tensions are unexistant, every once in a while arguments start between governments about dumb unimportant stuff. You know how bigger countries use nukes as a negotiation tool? Armies in SA work similarly
None of these countries are going to war with one another nor do they participate in coalition adventures overseas. So what ARE they for? Just another sector for corrupt careerists to take bribes and do embezzlement while providing a career path for browns?
I had a coworker who mentioned that the Columbian unit that operated with his was really good and that they always stayed cool no matter what. He figured that their officers were mostly holding them back

Of late the armed forces have tried to avoid getting into politics, something which has allowed them to remain with a comparatively high level of credibility if national polls are any indication, they have supported the rule of democracy, but from time to time you could still hear some people wishing they were unleashed upon criminal organizations, common thugs and/or the more radical elements of our political class (in Peru sometimes is too hard to see the difference, we are a wet's dream for crime journalists) and "clean house" in a way which will annoy the CIDH to no end.
>populated by rich and upper middle class
What's the average income like to be considered upper middle class there?
Nice effort posts tbh
Is that an MI8?
I've never met a Peruvian before. Hola
Peruana.
They do covert operation to fuck your mum everyday.
So far they've been successfull.

>by his words, this is a fairly regular Brazilian military employee experience
All in all, I think they are pretty good.
Well either your friend is lying or you're full of shit because the Brazilian military doesn't hire civilian contractors.
t. served
They do hire contractors, but its one digit quantity for very specialized tasks
t. trust me dude
Lose(and coups)
larping as the wehrmacht in parades
It varies from country to country but generally they so stuff like coups, preventing coups, go out into the streets when martial law is a thing (usually happens once or twice a year) shoot at rioters when rioting happens and stuff like that.
War between SA countries hasn't happened in a long while but that doesn't mean that tensions are unexistant, every once in a while arguments start between governments about dumb unimportant stuff. You know how bigger countries use nukes as a negotiation tool? Armies in SA work similarly
Work out latina women and make them fit so they can dominate me in the bedroom later
LARPing
Participate in civil wars
Copy their role model and lose to the English.
Chase innocent island peoples
me running from hobos in NYC
coups
None of these countries are going to war with one another nor do they participate in coalition adventures overseas. So what ARE they for? Just another sector for corrupt careerists to take bribes and do embezzlement while providing a career path for browns?
Several central/south american countries were part of the US coalition in Iraq, plus a fuckton of military contractors.
I had a coworker who mentioned that the Columbian unit that operated with his was really good and that they always stayed cool no matter what. He figured that their officers were mostly holding them back
They’ve been fighting an insurgency for like 40 years now so I hope they are good
argentina, brazil and chile invaded and occupied haiti less than 20 years ago under the united nations
Your mom. Bitch.
Dissect Paraguay.
Some shoot protestants...
Based if true.
But I'm sure that you meant to type protesters, my fellow ESL.
Sorry, yeah, I meant protesters.
Coup the government.
