VTS Ladoga spotted in Ukraine

Who loves extremely rare Soviet-era prototypes? Well one was spotted on the front line of Ukraine, a VTS Ladoga targetted by an FPV. There's only known to be 5 - 7 Ladoga's ever produced, although it's not much more than a T-80 chassis with a fancy interior and extensive protection from exterior elements.

Most famously the Lagoda was sent to Chernobyl to enter the destroyed reactor hall days after the incident. Its intended purpose was to transport VIP's during a nuclear apocalypse.

      Anonymous

As it was designed to transport VIP's, such as high command personnel, the inside is quite posh. I wonder if the crew driving this still had these comfy seats.

Not that this war made sense before, but this makes especially little sense. What's an armored limo doing in Ukraine? You can't even fit many people (or Russians) in it.

It can still be used as a command post, personnel carrier, or an ad-hoc engineering vehicle. I'm frankly shocked they even found a running one in the first place.

So how'd it hold up against the FPV drone?
Surely a vehicle built to survive the nuclear holocaust can shrug off a drone....r-right...?

I assume if it's designed for VIP transport then it's not designed for frontline combat, and doesn't have the same level of protection as a tank. You don't expect a gasmask to have a ballistic rating.

Tank is a tank za stalina uraaaaaaa

Russias APC?IFV crisis seems very different to their tank and artillery situation where they are able to actually pull a few thousand from the endless fields of rust. Even a year ago unarmored MT-LBs started to be used as APCs when Russia should have had no shortage, even now Russian APC reserves are meant to be over 10,000 as their in service ones kit 100% losses but they are not following the same patten as the tanks and artillery, worse storage, more cannibalization, worse made, faster decay who knows. The Ukrainian figures predicted the arrival of golf carts and golf carts arrived.

Sadly no aftermath was posted. T-80's tend to turret toss when they're "tickled" behind the neck of their turret as I like to say, but no ammunition in this case, hopefully the FPV knocked out the engine and we'll see it abandoned. This is such a cool find that it HAS to be documented more.

Seeing the Lagoda being fielded by russia would be indicative of the increased strain on their tank inventory.
I have been tracking russias numbers for a while and though all my data is based on open source stuff, by my estimates they currently passed below the 1000 mark of active tanks ready for battle. the main reason is that the offensive since october 2023 has cost them more than they can afford and production/restoration is unable to keep up at this rate.
afaik russia has 10 plants capable in total of restoring about 200 tanks / month, and furthermore they can build about 40 new T90 per month.
i imagine restoring older tanks will get tougher and tougher though due to decreased spare parts. unless russia is able to do something quickly to reduce their losses they will be out of tanks within a year
