war? what war?
also in case you're not being sarcastic: as long as a vehicle is distinctly marked it can be a fricking mobility scooter and still count as a military vehicle. hence those minivans and smart cars with z's painted on them.

>The AGR-20 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) is a design conversion of Hydra 70 unguided rockets with a laser guidance kit to turn them into precision-guided munitions (PGMs
so it's not a 'beam rider' it has a seeker on the front right?
so you shoot it ahead of the drone at where you expect it to be at the point of impact and paint the drone with a laser for the missile to make fine adjustments on the fly?
its kind of like heat seeking missiles except the target is too cold so you paint it with a laser instead
yes but they take time to burn which is slow. has such a laser guided AA system ever been used? i know starstreak uses a laser but starstreak is a beamrider.
cant help but wonder if a fast rotary gun firing regular cheap ammo linked to a counter drone radar wouldnt do a better job for a cheaper price tag
i think you could put something like
every solid rocket motor takes time to burn. these don't have a sustainer motor so they are relatively short ranged but they still outrange any gun system out there. and bigger shells like Gepard's 40mm aren't cheap either, especially compared to APKWS used with old stocks of Hydras.
At that point why wouldn't you just use an automatic shotgun?
Rotary guns are fiddly relatively speaking, and unless you're going to have self destructing rounds, which isn't cheap, they're an enormous collateral damage hazard when firing upwards.
Because it's a lot cheaper than firing Buk missiles at Orlan 10s, I agree it'll be used as a cheeky rocket against literally anything they can target though
Correct. During travel, the tracker/laser unit is mounted to the roof and the mast is disassembled and stored in the technical bed. This is because the mast doesn't fit under some bridges. However, the system remains active with the roof mounted unit, and provides protection from drones during travel.
the mast is telescoping - you can see where the minimum height position is (last recess) and it's exactly where the seeker is in the lower right picture.
A common misconception. The mast has been collapsed for travel and the tracker/laser unit has been mounted to the cab roof.

the whole point of VAMPIRE (vehicle agnostic palletized isr rocket equipment ) is that all the parts are mounted on a unitary pallet and can be thrown on pretty much any vehicle with enough space to mount it on in 5 minutes with just common tools. adding a roof bracket would just be completely moronic: >already have telescoping mast >instead of making sure you can move it all the way down you add a bracket on the roof of the vehicle (defeating the whole modular, all-in-one concept) >then you frick around with placing/removing the mast and moving the tracker from bracket to mast all the time
why?
Looks great. How much will Ukraine get for each one on the dark web? It'll probably end up with the Houthis, like so much other US military aid to Ukraine.
the funniest part about shit like this is that it shows not only how fricked up russians are - but that they even lack the ability to conceive of a society not exactly as moronic as their own: they simply can't imagine officers and soldiers of an army not selling off gear their lives depend upon by the truckload to shady characters.
>acronyms are getting out of hand >getting
The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act is already over 20 years old.
since you can mount in on the flat space of any kind of vehicle that has a cargo bed large enough, it's justified.
I wonder if it fits in a Piaggio Ape50?
>deliberately low-end, cost-saving weapons originally adapted from Vietnam era rockets to shoot insurgents and quadcopters are wunderwaffen to the slav
come on now
VatBlack folk claim everything developed in the last 30 or so years is a wunderwaffen. Mainly because every russian weapon developed in the last 30 years was advertised as such.
I love how one dude was able to derail this entire thread by asserting, very aggressively mind you, that the seeker was mounted on the roof of the vehicle rather than the actual framework in the bed. And so many of you took the bait! /k/ really has gone downhill with all these war tourists. Not that it was great prior to that, of course.
truth be told there isn't much to say: >russians screaming wunderwaffe at every piece of western kit ukies get >people shitting on drones or anti-drone defences (both are aparently impossible) >people calling laser guided rockets obsolete >blah >muh acronyms >blah
I don't think we've seen any Iranian drones in Ukraine yet. As of now, it's all just media propaganda to drag Iran into the conflict.
However, the claims may actually have incentivized the Russians to actually approach Iran for them. But unless Russia is delivering Iran weapons in return, such as fighter jets, tanks and armored vehicles, then there isn't much that Iran gains from it.

>using anything Russia does as an example of a non warcrime
You are correct, but I wouldn't even bother citing a source at that point.
I, John Popov of Uragan state, fully agree that militaries should be forbidden from committing war crimes such as using civillian vehicles in war
agent popov the state you are assigned to is spelled "state of oregano", please report to FSB for rape correction
Agent Frickov, there's no such thing as rape in Russia. Please report FSB for correction and to have a broom inserted in to your anus.

>t.literally a homosexual

its only a war crime if the vehicle in question could be mistaken as a non-combatant
considering the vehicle has a giant missile launcher and thermal imager on it, they made no attempt to disguise it as a non-combatant
War? War? Comrade, don't be of the silly. Is no war in Ba Sing S... errr Ukraine, da? Is special military operation.
Why, did they forget to mark the Z for zombie?
Those are pictures for demonstration, enjoy.
New skill tree for technicals?
is that a short range SAM?
It's an APKWS directed to the target by a self-tracking laser built into the optics ball.
IIRC the original was a firmware mod for F16s to shoot down cruise missiles.

yes, it's semi active laser homing, similar to laser guided bombs and so on
Hydra 70s are going mach 2.5-3 on burnout so they are pretty fast too
yes but they take time to burn which is slow. has such a laser guided AA system ever been used? i know starstreak uses a laser but starstreak is a beamrider.

Yes, in fact it's 4 small seekers that pop out on forward steering fins.
Here is the quality of the EO/IR system.
I thought it started as an Army upgrade for Apache's, A-10's, etc?
How many human shields you can fit on that bad boy?
it's ok, russians have the real vampire-6 on their side
>laser guided Hydra 70s on a truck
How long until Ukraine uses it as GMLRS?
why did they even bother calling it anti-drone system? first thing ukrainians will do is to launch that shit at some shitty bmp 1 or a helicopter. kek

They can do it all.

Hydra-70 equipped Grads when?
So it's like a JDAM, but for 70mm rockets.
rockets cost less than Javelin
>tracker/illuminator ball is on a mast
>tracker/illuminator ball is on the cab roof
what did they mean by this?
in the lower pictures it only looks like both the tracker and launcher are mounted on the roof because of the angle and the reflections on the roof.
It was clearly removed from the mast and mounted on the roof in picture 4.
No, you're just moronic. It's ok, though.

red - mast and mount on bed visible through back window.
green - reflections on roof that are fooling you.
>what did they mean by this?
It means you're moronic and can't figure out it's mounted on an extendable mast.
>Bye bye Iranian drones.
Are the Iranian drones in the room with you right now?
why always toyota?
now put this on a 25 year old hilux or L200. Perfection
