I kinda did this. After the crash in 08 land at the beach on little islands no one cared about was cheap. I bought a bunch of it. Then I had a bad life event, and just moved to the island. I sold my other business, and opened a shitty tiki bar on the beach. Life is good now.
If things go to shit, I know I can go to the back side of my property, dig five feet down, and hit potable water. If I walk ten feet into the bay, I will step on something I can eat.

chile doesnt seem like a tropical destination, but i will do some research. CR expensiveness is all i see, but surely that is only people expecting the same lifestyle as in the US. i want to homestead and be self sufficient.
Chili has lots of tropical climate in the north part of the country.

I live on an island. We constantly game plan this. We've also gone months without electricity. So, we prep for this stuff.
Chili and Costa Rica are both nice but id go with Chili. Costa Rica cost of living has been going up alot the last few years. Chili is extremely safe, has great people, great culture, and is cheap to live in.

Colombia, Panama, Mexico, and (maybe) El Salvador are the best bets for QOL. They have varying degrees of difficulty for obtaining citizenship. Do your research on each and travel around for a bit before making any decisions.

i do love me some raw fish, but generally speaking beachfront lots have terrible soil quality and things just dont grow. i want to plant 100+ species of fruit trees.

there are a ton of options for animals/fish that eat mosquito larvae. anyways, id rather get eaten alive by mosquitoes than continue working a bullshit job so i can eat processed foods for the rest of my life

where i lived growing up, i would get absolutely destroyed by mosquitoes every summer. not to mention the risk of deer ticks with lyme. nowhere i am looking has a very high rate of malaria.
