I'm trying to find more uncommon or overlooked items that would do great in a post money situation. Any tips on the best food items to buy or can, items to trade and simple but necessary skills to learn or have books on. I'm currently stocking up now. Also, is solar power worth it or should I just live in the dark?
I live in small town kansas
Best tip I've received so far is sewing tools. Without cheap walmart clothes we will need to repair our own clothes.
>Best tip I've received so far is sewing tools. Without cheap walmart clothes we will need to repair our own clothes.
The first thing I stocked up on when the coof hit was sewing needles.
Lighters
Booze
Antibiotics
Scissors
Gardening tools
Vitamins
Basic meds
Cleaning materials
Tampons / diva cups/ basic personal hygiene kit
Repair tools
Camping type stoves that can run off any fuel
Wind up chargers
Unfortunately in the burger land Im certain you cant just buy antibiotics. they are prescription only. But yeah I need to get my gardening tools and a (cant remember the name) type camping grill. even though I have a regular grill already.
buy some for your fish
This guy knows
wow it really is that easy huh. My mom goes to cuba and brings supplies as a missionary. they asked her for antibiotics but we cant get them. guess we can now. thanks you might have just saved some lives fren.
Go to the doctor, fake being sick, get antibiotics. simple really.
Did you know antibiotics for animals are exactly the same as the ones you get?
condoms, high % booze and cigs
I would love to stock booze if I didnt drink it all. I'm looking into getting a book about distilling instead. Condoms definitely sounds like a good one.
kek fk i feel that
>high proof booze
Unironically this, serves so many purposes aside from just drinking.
>picrel
I've heard that alot. But I just imagine people will run out of cigs way sooner than lighters. It seems legit but I'm assuming society isnt on full collapse, well at least where ill live. and since I wont be living in the woods it wont be that necessary.
easy fire is always necessary, even when they run out of fuel, in a pinch you can use it as a flint
Yeah but they're so common. I dont think theyd go for very much until like a few years down the road. I still got some but I dont think its worth buying a shit ton to sell.
bics for trade
I've been stocking up on zippo fuel and parts for myself.
Drugs will be currency.
legal or illegal ones? im gonna get a good amount of pain killers. mostly cause the price just keeps rising anyways.
Both I guess. They used cocaine as currency in some areas of Colombia.
Toothpaste/brushes
isnt baking soda a better alternative since it is multi use? Brushes for sure though
Baking soda doesn't re-mineralize teeth.
alright thanks. lotsa toothpaste it is
>Sewing Equipment
>Yeast Packets
>Sugar / Salt
>Bleach / Anti-Biotics
And make sure to always carry some 'deenz for a nice snack.
I got around 100 cans good sir.
If you're looking at trading in a post-collapse economy, you should not be thinking about things you can hoard now. Instead, look at what can be produced:
1. food
2. water
3. medicine
4. electricity
Learn how to create one or more of those things, and get the frick away from major cities. Then you'll be fine.
I live in small town kansas. tons of corn and wheat production here. I imagine food wont be an issue for a few years just on how much is in our silos. I'm not a israelite but I'd rather be a trader than some manual laborer or militia man. I'm looking into distilling and I asked about solar panels in the OP. are they worth it? I could only afford like a $200 one though.
Corn is DOGSHIT for self-sufficiency. The amount of water needed per edible calorie is disgustingly high with corn. Wheat is much better, but the refinement process is pretty extreme. Potatoes are decent. Mushrooms are infinitely better.
As for solar power, getting "off-grid" is not about finding an alternate way to create a livable amount of electricity, but about lowering your electricity needs. Solar power is something that only rich people can do because of the huge initial investment and solar cell replacements that are required.
I used to work for a crop consulting company as a field scout. Im certain they would have us inform farmers and ration out which fields get planted because a limited amount of chemicals and fuel to run the irrigation. We dont get enough natural rain so itd have to be irrigated from our wells. Yeah theyd probably not plant corn but if there is a bunch just lying around to plant they might. We do have several potato fields so thatd be nice.
About solar panels. I'm looking for something that could supply my computer, microwave, phone and electric skillet so I dont have to burn fuels all the time. Also, the computer will be rare but other items id like to use maybe every day.
Seeds
I got a whole bunch and will be planting my beets and radishes soon. other stuff in spring.
pot noodles
>Is solar power worth it?
Yeah but it depends mainly on what you plan to use it for.
>lighting your house and running your window unit?
No. Huge drain.
>using it to charge batteries, small appliances?, and possibly a fan?
Yes.
Thanks, I can only afford the $200 dollar ones on amazon. got any better ones I can get? and it would mostly be for charging shit and a microwave or electric stove top so I dont have to use my fuel.
White vinegar
Boolets Ivan, you collect boolet
someone has to have other stuff. we all cant eat bullets. And I'm assuming we have a militia already so our town will be somewhat safe. Looking for items to trade so I can be non israelite merchant.
That's not how it's going to work...
You meet someone in the apocalypse and you trade them one bullet for all their stuff. That will be the standard.
check out the show "jericho" honestly seems way more realistic then fallout. yes there will be bandits and shit but militias will form and there will be some peace. itll be like 3rd world countries.
Spices. 100% spices. Especially something that doesn't naturally grow in your area. Food always has survival and monetary value. Well spiced food even more so.
Also honey. If you can put together a small apiary or two you're golden. It's not only a good condiment that's full of energy, but it can also be distilled into mead.
I'm looking to buy a big boy back of pepper. That will definitly be a hot product. thanks
Enjoy. One of the pluses about stocking up on various spices, they have an extremely long shelf life if dried and sealed. Bonus points if you get some seeds and try growing some fresh ones yourself (if your climate supports it).
Interesting topic OP.
I was also wondering since a while if there is some kind of book to learn the basic surval/post-apocaliptic skills. Anyone care to share some reading material?
Vietnam era special forces manuals. Can buy on Amazon or any surplus store.
i was hoping some titltes, in this shithole buying from outside Argentina is nearly impossible (not kidding)
How to stay alive in the woods, SAS survival handbook
I'm mostly assuming I wont have to live in da woods. Being in a small town itd probably just go to 3rd world country living standards. so not unbearable. From what ive seen so far. learn a trade like distilling or making honey, or antibiotics. easy ass and muscle
Shit will easily start to go to Barter System.
Just everyday otc stuff like ibuprofen and aspirin will be godsend. Bandages, neosporin, anti-bacterial soap, cough drops.
Big fears are infections.
well, dont know how to destile, but I do know how to make some killing mead using sugar instead of actual honey (bc honey take months to break into alcohol while sugar takes days). Does that count?
yes tell me. my father has pounds of sugar and I am an alcoholic on my last dime.
The best thing you can have for trade is a skilled trade or a pussy. the real red pill.
Booze
I'm becoming a bandit if this happens. Will build an army of shitty robots to rob people on their travels. I will turn my robots on you and take your pickles.
I'll become a stationary non israelite merchant. Glad my towns militia will kill you soon enough. instead of just hoarding bullets to use try making something useful. I dont believe shits gonna turn mad max. America will just turn into a 3rd world shit hole. normal life wont be impossible.
canned tuna
.22 ammo
NICE a team is coming together
all we need is 5 guys with canned tuna and a .22 and the apocalypse won't even phase us
I'll handle the community dining area and garden. Fruits, veggies, herbs and spices. Bring me some good protein and morale will stay extremely high.
Let me do the night watch and distilling.... No i swear ill never drink while on watch.
Bullets
I'm working on gardening and pickling myself. Best part about it is I go to a foodbank where they leave stuff out, and I got a bunch of free cucumbers and mason jars there (ontop of the cukes I grew myself), just need to get the mason lids, probably will need to buy them. Next year I hope to expand the garden and grow a lot of different stuff.
Another idea I have later on is to find old furniture, tools, electronics, etc. that people are throwing out by their curb, or even at a junk yard, and fixing them up to sell, or barter for things other people have that you need.
OTC drugs
Cause a shortage in antihistamines and you’ve caused a huge amount of people to be practically worthless
It's not going to happen like that. They will destroy you to keep the system afloat.
Mechanical/electrical repair, blacksmithing, carpentry and medical skills will be priceless.
This is the angle that most "preppers" don't want to look at. Learning and gaining experience in real world skills. They want to do things the easy way and simply have things on hand, which can be stolen, taken by force, destroyed in fire or other natural disasters, etc. What you know how to do can help you survive even with nothing at all. People need people who can heal, fix engines, repair houses and build shelters, ability and skill will get you the protection and even privilege you need to survive. Gunsmithing and the ability to make homemade firearms is also a vital skill. In the USA indian wars, the Indians rarely killed gunsmiths, because their services were so valuable.
I've got crates full of yoyos stashed in the woods
