Yeah, they used to be affordable apparently ($400-500). But that was decades ago and as AR-15s have gotten more popular it seems like the decline in the Mini's popularity led to Ruger just making fewer of them and jacking up the price. Also they retooled the whole production line when they came out with the tapered barrel version in 2008ish and that seems to have contributed as well. Although even just a few years ago (2019/2020 they were like 20% cheaper.
And that's a lot cheaper than a new M1a. Mini 14s only made sense when ARs were $1000+ and they were still 5-600. Then ARs got cheap and minis got more expensive. All of a sudden you could get an AR for 500, and minis went up to 6-800. Then the pandemic happened and MSRP for a mini skyrocketed to 1100.
Jesus Christ, I hope your gun market unfricks itself at some point

It's pretty cool.
It's been used in numerous high profile shootings and gun fights.
Miami FBI shootout, that one in Canada, and AntiGlobalist Commie Killer VIP picrel. It's also the Mateba in Starship Troopers and it's in shitloads of other movies.
I feel like I'm missing another shooting, but it's a very capable rifle even before the series 583 upgrades.
Someone posted their Mini a year or two with an optic that looked to be about 6" long, and it was a fully enclosed rectangle. It might have been a retro thread. Looked fricking awesome but I can't figure out the optic.
Ah yeah. It is a money pit. I can't own folding stocks in my state so mine is just in the normal traditional wood stock. I love the look of that A-Team stock and actually the Hannibal scout rail for it as well, it is nice, very very well-made.
So far I have dumped, let's see:
$1100 into the base rifle
$250 for adjustable gas block and bushings
$250 for Leupold 1.5-4x scope
$75 for Leuopold QD rings
$100 for trigger job (sent to ASI, made it smooth as butter)
$100 for the scout rail
$25 for a jumbo pack of 1911 recoil buffers
$25 for cotton GI sling
Some of these parts have come and gone. I actually ended up taking the scout rail off just because I don't feel I really need it for what is mostly a bench gun. Still. $1925 for a rifle that shoots 2MOA. It's definitely for the love of that sweet click-clack.
I want to make some more improvements like adding a muzzle break of some kind, crowning the muzzle with a recessed target crown, and glass bedding the stock (although I will need help with that). Those are long term projects though. The next thing I will probably do is swap the wood stock out for a Choate fiberglass stock for weight savings.
I donno, maybe I'm dumb, but I think it's cool. ARs are also cool. I like them, too.
They were awesome back when they could be regularly found for $300 and even budget ARs were pushing $1000. Ruger dragged their feet for way to long after the AWB expired and didn't start producing factory 20 rd mags until 2010 IIRC. By that point mass production and adoption of ARs had dropped the price to below the mini. Had they shaken off ol' Bill's ghost sooner and jumped out of the gate in '04 with both the 580 series and factory 20 rd mags it would be a lot more popular today. Sadly it wasn't to be. Also that "target model" with the silly ass harmonic tuner was hilarious.
Funnily enough I just cut one down to turn it into a 556k "clone" with a pinned jmac brake. Still need to order one of those Sampson front sight blocks to finish it.
It's ok, not $1,100 ok, but ok enough.
This. I don't understand why they're that expensive, the rifle itself is worth at most $800 street price.
This.
And this.
1100?
Isn't the idea of these to make a cheap M14 knock-off in 5.56?

I want one
It makes argays seethe because it is undeniably cooler
>bad design is cool
wha?
Aesthetically it looks much cooler
Some can look cooler than some ARs, the two tone law enforcement one with the folding stock was pretty neat, but I've seen some sexy ARs.
first rule of guns is looking cool
Shut up homosexual
It would be cool if it was like 600-700 bucks tbh.
It is on GB
Fudd approved
It ejects brass hard enough to knock out the range brass israelites gold tooth
It's pretty cool.

And I like mine. I know it isn't better than an AR but it fills an important niche in ban states.
>2 flashlights
why?
To see children better with.
>Commie Killer
one is a laser I think
two is one and one is none
for the same reason he bought a grip pod, but then still decided to hold the gun by the stock instead of the grip
he's got 2 eyes don't he?
It's the business end of the old Surefire L72 laser.
it's one of the rifles of all time
it would be pretty great in a world where higher quality ars don't run half its price tag.
They look 100000 times more aesthetic than any AR variant ever thought about being

pic unrelated
Excuse me?
Every gun looks better with a cheese grater.
The tecnical term is "The shoulder thing that goes up"
At least the first magazine of rounds through mine would hit the paper plate middle
I love my mini
It's legal in most slave states.
you have to go really slave before its an issue. I live in NJ and I have 2 ARs
Holds the world record for deadliest mass shooting
I'd buy one if not for the fact that ARs are cheaper
I would prefer if it was bolt action
Back when everyone hated AR-15s there was a big demand for Mini-14s, but these days its demand is lower.
The trigger is
*chef's kiss*
Kino ngl
Go tell your big brother Im looking for him
Pairs well with a hawaiian shirt, mirrored aviators, and a leather attache case full of cocaine.
I want one with the A-Team body but the price to get it all together just scares me away.

Jim Sullivan helped to "miniaturize" it from the M14. He also helped to "miniaturize" the AR-10 to become the AR-15. Is he the real hero?
They're kino as hell
>misses every single shot ever taken
I pity the fool who doesn't like the A-Team theme
>Ba Bum Bah, Dum Dum Dum, dada da da da, Dah dadada Dah
Funnily enough I just cut one down to turn it into a 556k "clone" with a pinned jmac brake. Still need to order one of those Sampson front sight blocks to finish it.
Damn nice looking gun
People don't give you mean looks for carrying one despite being about as good as an AR-15.
It's a really good gun and I'm sorry I sold mine.
Wish I could buy one, but they made it illegal in my country after a certain Breivik related event.
