You do know that ballistic missiles have been hypersonic since the 60's right? You do know that a normal ballistic missile still reaches the target faster than the meme of a hypersonic glide vehicle right?
>No, the usage of the word "hypersonic" today implies the ability to maneuver
the frick are you talking about, hypersonics powered by scramjet engines are the goal, otherwise you'd just use icbm's where in the terminal phase they're already technically at hypersonic speeds. scramjets is what darpa was testing decades prior for use in hypersonic aircraft and weapons.
to be fair your home computer is probably more powerful than most industrial devices, I can't imagine there are many uses for high quality graphics processing or such on a military device. just enough to get the job done.
Modern electronics have been vulnerable to radiation based bit flipping for the last 30 years even on the ground level of Earth. Chip designers have had to build in checks against bitflip errors for decades. Space tech have been using newer chips just with thick radiation hardening and those same error checks plus redundant processing.
Anything besides vidja, video processing, or AI uses very little computational power. Excluding the aforementioned you could still get by on an early 2000s CPU to this day.
The two areas where the US excels the the furthest ahead of near peers are: >materials sciences. How does an F-22 engine work? Frick you and your mother you’re never going to find out. >logistics.
With those two aspects America dominates and will continue to do so as China sucks ass with logistics and materials science doesn’t appear great or they wouldn’t need to reverse engineer Russian engines.
>materials science doesn’t appear great
The Chinese have spent decades grinding any "outside the box" thinkers into paste.
The great leap forward, the cultural revolution, their continued disparagement of free and open thought, etc. has left them with a society that has nearly zero capacity for abstract problem solving skills or imaginative thought.
Turns out for the generation of new technologies, those things are kind of necessary, who would have thought.
You can see this reflected in their arts, BTW.
Everything that they produce is derivative of foreign material. Nothing is original, it's all re-hashed in one degree or another.
Hong Kong was the last bastion for thinking minds.
That's fricking done now too.
They've been that way since forever. It's a racial issue not a political one.

30s era racism
lmao I'm 100% asian. On top of that, I just spent four years in mainland China for work before getting the frick out in 2020 after the first lockdown.
You can take your "buh buh racism!" and frick right off.
What I wrote is fact. Their society is perpetually held back by fear of the government and decades of internal oppression.
The mainland Chinese have lost whatever makes it necessary to innovate.
Picrelated is a great example, it's the PLA MRE.
Notice anything about it? Look familiar?
Why did the PLA make it look like that?
The reason is America makes American MREs look like that, thus of course this is what an MRE should look like.
After all, if the Americans do it, there must be a reason so we should do the same even if we don't understand why.
That is the Chinese train of thought. They are followers and copiers, through and through.
It is one example among hundreds. I only chose that one because it's relevant to this board.

AK barrel, bolt, charging handle/carrier with an SKS op-rod instead of direct gas and piston contact, converted to striker fire and shoehorned in a shitty bullpup chassis. So I guess the Soviets?
Don't worry though they're replacing it with the 191, which is a combination of the worst aspects of the AK and AR platforms in one shirty design.
>do you even think for a second what your thinking leads to? what it led to?
Is that why China is the number 1 Intellectual Property thief in the world? With all of their newer military vehicles/planes being either copied (poorly) from Western or Soviet/Russian origin?
Machine learning and computer science in general are far ahead of peers as well. As we type, they are developing series of AI to collect and filter data from the battlefield and automatically suggest responses to commanders.
You're forgetting satellite surveillance. They had pic related in the 70s and Trump posting that photo of Iran only confirms that they have spooky space magic running their cameras. The NRO has a bigger budget than the CIA.
>that time the NRO donated 2 space telescopes to NASA because it was useless to them despite the telescopes being better than the best NASA had at the time (hubble)
The full pic. Note the detail and the angle of the shot. Now add the fact that this is a photo of a screen or projection taken by a phone. This is close to the peak of what is (or was) theoretically possible, and I'm not 100% on the science but it might even be outright physics breaking depending on the angle. It was tracked to be from a satellite launched in 2010 or 2011, so it's real cutting edge stuff.
What about this image breaks physics? Could it not just be a composite image made from multiple spy satellites?

Satellite technology these days operates on a centimetres per pixel basis, i.e one pixel has 30, 40, 50 etc. cm of detail in it, and it all comes from the one camera, especially the more zoomed in you get. So it's only when you zoom out do you start seeing composite images, at least from multiple satellites. Commercial satellite technology can see 30cm per pixel, after the US lowered the previous 50cm per pixel limit.
As I understand it, there are two limits to the quality of the image a satellite can produce, one being the camera/mirror used to capture the image; for instance the James Webb Telescope has a larger mirror than Hubble, and the other being the thickness of the atmosphere which interferes with the quality of an image once you zoom in too much. There's a bunch of science around it which I don't really know, but the gist is that it's extremely difficult to get more detailed pictures the more you zoom in. Pic related is a 30cm per pixel resolution, adjusted with software to about 15cm. Note that it's taken purely from above, and even then it's noticeably pixelated.
The problem with Trump's photo is that it's at an unprecedented level of detail. It's so good in fact that some experts initially thought it was from a drone they snuck into the middle of Iran. You can see the steps on the path to the side, and even the poles of the fence surrounding the site are visible. All that detail and it's at an angle, through more atmosphere than you'd get if you'd taken it purely from above. >But Melissa Hanham, deputy director of the Open Nuclear Network at the One Earth Foundation, believes that the resolution is so high, it may be beyond the physical limits at which satellites can operate. "The atmosphere is thick enough that after somewhere around 11 to 9 centimeters, things get wonky," she says.
It was only confirmed to be a spy satellite because there was one above the site when it happened that got tracked by amateur astronomers.

What's even crazier is that particular type of spy satellite (keyhole 11/12) is last-gen hardware, they've been putting them up for decades. Who knows what the latest and greatest is capable of these days.
Russia has a decent chunk of the world's titanium iirc, I read somewhere that the CIA had to make shell companies to buy some from the Soviets for the SR71
So pure production of long chain carbon nanotube wires for space elevators already exists then. Public manufacturers can't make them in high enough quality to not be riddled with imperfections that weaken them too much to be useful. Also microwave energy projection to keep electric air vehicles in the sky along with nanotech maintanence so there's no need to land.
Its out of sight, we realistically dont know what their most advanced weaponry is like. You just have to look at Ukraine to see what it did to the Russians and thats relatively old technology.
You may not like it, but the US is 6 million years ahead in military tech. The US military & government holds the keys to the meaning of life & death, has both friendly & evil alien helpers (ET/FNORD), psychic "remote viewing" spies, time travel tech, fleets of reverse-engineered antigravity alien tech "TR-3B Black Triangle" flying ship's powered by element 115, communication with ghosts the afterlife & the unborn, triple-barreled M551A666 PsychoSheridan tank's, 75th Rangers exoskeleton-hip-fired gyro-stabilised 120mm infantry mortars with pinpoint accuracy during 25mph sprint, access to other "parallel" universes, NSA/DARPA GGGQEP quantum ∞(±6^∀)Petahertz microprocessors to eavesdrop on every single electronic & non-electronic communication in the world even sign language underneath 1km of EMF Kevlar, "Rods from God" (just 1 orbital tungsten telephone pole = two Czar Bombas), the 300,000-strong "Fighting Molemen" U.S. SUBTERRANEAN FORCE, FT LEE VA (the secret "7th branch" existing since 1899), quantum IFVs, "phase-shifting" Armored Recovery Vehicles, new "Stealth" tech that makes jet's invisible to Radar. Shoulder-fired ASAT missiles. Stealth field kitchens. This is publicized in Stargate SG1, scientific research publication Popular Science, only a fraction of the more spooky & shadowy stuff not listed above is merely hinted at in Marvel Cinematic Universe™, history documentary Red Alert 2, time travel documentary Life is Strange (David Madsen was a rogue DIA test subject), but the pardoned parcel is the US of A is at least 6 million years ahead in military tech even without the help of alien's. It is 6 million years ahead though the exact number fluctuates due to the activities of the US Military Time Travel Program underneath Barksdale, A. F. B., L.A., this 6 million years ahead is a universally agreed-upon average by the world & intergalactic/ET scientific communities.
I see Chinese cargo cult versions of US aircraft and think they're probably decades behind the US and the US has probably infitrated and sabotaged large parts of the Chinese miltary machine.
Realistically anyone who is clued in to the truth won't tell you.

I'm sorry, but you don't have a high enough security clearance for that intel.
You do know that ballistic missiles have been hypersonic since the 60's right? You do know that a normal ballistic missile still reaches the target faster than the meme of a hypersonic glide vehicle right?
hypersonics imply the usage of scramjet engines.
No, the usage of the word "hypersonic" today implies the ability to maneuver. Most hypersonic shit is boost-glide right now.

AI. That’s why the US just banned sales of high end Nvidia AI specialized graphics processors to China
That's because old stuff is reliable. Spacecrafts use computers from the 80s because they're immune to gamma radiation.
