Big if true, russia probably can't maintain a 24 hour front coverage anymore with these losses. Hopefully the pre-F-16 handoff shaping operations will be done soon so we get to see fighter kino
It's two confirmed, one potentially admitted by Russian MOD and a further one claimed.
The big news is drone bombardment of Beriev Aircraft Plant which not only conducted repairs (the one admitted + one claimed) but is also for refurbishment and modernisation. Russia can't really build new A-50s but it does have spares it can reactivate - which it will need to do as it's now expected that Russia doesn't have 24-hour coverage.

my favourite detail about the F-117 was that the pilot when he took cover in a irrigation ditch to hide from the serbs he could feel the ground shaking a like a series of mini earthquakes.
It was being Belgrade being hit by full loads of 2000lb bombs from multiple B-2 Spirits (each one can carry 16x 2000lb bombs or 16 cruise missiles). Puts the shootdown into perspective.

Not getting my hopes up until I see the evidence. I have trouble believing the Russians were stupid enough to leave yet another of these things vulnerable, they have so few left.
Haven't they been very good with shoot down claims? I recall many that have turned out to be false. There's that much shit watching and scanning the skies out there they can probably just ask some NATO for confirmation if they aren't 100% themselves.
They're going to have to borrow Kamov Ka-31's off the Russian navy at this rate of attrition.
To be fair though, its not like their Navy is using them.
No, its not a good angle, its mounted center mass and spins as you would expect. It folds up sideways so its "facing" the fuselage longitudinally when the heli wants to land.
>Ka-31
wait they actually made a awacs helicopter? lmao
For the Navy, yeah. Only originally served on the mobile smokescreen carrier they have, but now operates on their Mistrals.
Hilariously both India and China operate far more of them.
Some posts say that the 2 Ka-31 the russian navy has are deployed to northern fleet, there are only a handful of ships in the northern fleet that could carry both of them at the same time, so they likely have them split up if they're deployed on an active ship at all.
Wikipedia says they have a radar ceiling of 3500m so they aren't going to be great at AWACS regardless. Maybe OK for spotting sea skimmers but certainly not any airborne control duties. Airframe is too small to have actual battle controllers. I wonder if they can even offload radar data to a ground station, or if it has to be data linked to a ship?

Correct. Calling them AWACS is a huge misnomer. They are not even close to filling the capability gap caused by losing an A-50
A fair bit, but the bigger deal is getting a helicopter to an altitude where its radome is even remotely relevant kills the endurance and range of the aircraft pretty dramatically. It's better than nothing, but not very much better.
They're not really there to cover too much further, they're just there to cover the immediate sensor gap all ships have because of the immediate horizon, realistically if you've only got a few you want them hovering relatively close to your ships so range is less important. The wect uses helicopter awacs as forward radars, equipping them with ASMs, but not Russia so much, its mostly just for defensive purposes to cover the sensor gap.
Sea King AEW. It was introduced after the retirement of the Fairey Gannet (and the Fleet Carriers in the late 70's) and the issues that naturally arose around Airborne Early Warning during the Falklands.
Or alternatively maybe refurbish the old Tu-126's that they've not used since the 80's. Maybe they've one or two kicking about in a hangar somewhere, however I doubt they would have survived the fall of the Soviet Union. Someone probably sold the aluminum for scrap in the 90's.
If they're gonna refurbish anything it'd be more A-50s. They actually have quite a few, but most of them aren't flying and weren't modernized to the A-50U standard. I think those are the only ones Russia has been actually using.
Storing aircraft outdoors in places with winter is amazingly stupid. Those are heavily cannibalized as missing engines and cowling indicate so the interiors with delicate electronics will have been stripped earlier to put more parts into supply (if not that's even worse since refurbishment requires cores).
>What if a ship used a swarm of drones to lift smol radars and networked them in software
This is essentially how the US envisions f-35 sensor fusion working
sensor fusion means combining the massive array of sensors the F-35 has into one single HUD blip (for example) with all the relevant information for the pilot
as opposed to the current setup when pilots may have to refer to two or three screens for different data
Nope, it's not.
It's got nothing to do with radar aperture synthesis. You don't use a bunch of F35s in carefully controlled formation to make a bigger software radar.
It just aggregates data from multiple sources so everyone in the network has a more complete tactical picture.

This is essentially how the US envisions f-35 sensor fusion working
that's not "sensor fusion" per se
sensor fusion means combining the massive array of sensors the F-35 has into one single HUD blip (for example) with all the relevant information for the pilot
as opposed to the current setup when pilots may have to refer to two or three screens for different data
Nope, it's not.
It's got nothing to do with radar aperture synthesis. You don't use a bunch of F35s in carefully controlled formation to make a bigger software radar.
It just aggregates data from multiple sources so everyone in the network has a more complete tactical picture.
I just spent a week learning about radio & antennas because I liked it enough to see it through, then start to nooootice posts like this all over, and saw someone mention 4chinz has a lot of EE types...
... it must be true.
That used to be literally everyone on the internet. Internet was a place for technically minded people, not accessible by normalgays. Letting them in ruined everything.
Yes, I recently listened to a biography of Lowtax, by Null from Kiwifarms, and he described how before his time, as AOL launched, all the original VBS users then lamented "The Eternal Summer" now upon them.
Eternal September, in reference to the influx of college freshmen gaining access to the internet for the first time.
Why it carrying a piece of corrugated zinc roofing?
Is radar:

2000 pows inside this one
2000 Azov tattoo skins will confirm this, unless Moscoq says Russia shot it themselves.
Is this NOT the same plane as the one that was in that airfield they hit a few days ago?
AW-ACK!
HOLY SHIT A DOWNED A-50 JUST FLEW OVER MY HOUSE
How much of it?
Seven of them, downed by the Ghost of Kyyiiv, of course.
>Seven of them
Fake, there aren't that many left.
>Ghost of Kyyiiv
some /misc/tard will be in the nursing home 80 years from now with Alzhiemers, unable to remember his family, own name, or even how to operate a door knob.
But his last memory will be the “GHOST
OF
KYIEEEEEEEEEEEEEV,” which he will shout constantly, increasingly agitated with every hoarse bellow, until the kindly orderlies show up and inject the thorazine.
80 years of mind-breaking obsession, all from one tweet. Amazing.
It was still all in one piece, but the piece was on fire.
About tree fiddy
Merely friendly fire accident. The enemy has nothing to do with it.
explains the uptick in russian propaganda on other boards
Very weak bait.
Total Phoneposter Death
piggies still Not over their Patriot loss
Sar isn't it bedtime for you?
Yeah so the Yooks are 100% about to bust out the F-16s and/or start hammering the frick out of their cities with drone strikes right?
What happens when this number is 0
significantly more dead russians every day i hope
They claim they replaced them with new generation stealth AWACS and that's why there is none in service.
No you can't see it, is too powerful Russian stealth tech for hato piggy eyes to comprehend ok
Russia still got ground based radars, so it's not fully blind. But the ability to detect low flying objects would degrade substantially.
Some Ukrainian official said the AWACS attacks are in preparation for F-16s. If there's no aircraft to spot them from afar, they'll be lobbing AGM-88 HARMS at their ground based radars and really blind them, making Ukrainian drone and ballistic missile attacks more successful.
Nobody's surprised really
Also, ground based radar is terribly vulnerable to terrain masking
The F16 finally becomes non-obsolete by flying at tree top level (cope level)
u mad lol
You get a spongebob popsicle
I get a feeling you're fat and lonely anon.
I've been there. Just work put and lose weight. It's a completely different life I swear.
.t nta
Oh boy brace yourselves for another wave of "xoxol abrahahamic tank destroyed*~~*~~)* spam again.
What’s going on with that new A-50U that just came out of the factory like a few days ago?
sauce or GTFO
>A-50U
>new
lol, damnit ivan, you could have moved the tarp a bit or something.
Crazy how people meme that uralvagonzavod does nothing while the same time acknowledging that ukies kill a dozen zigger tanks every day, including new ones.
I would assume they're still working through their pre-war stocks, no?
No. Ukraine destroyed Russia's pre-war stock ages ago.
On top of that, very few tanks from storage could be reactivated and directly sent to the front without extensive maintenance and/or partial rebuild.
Most zigger tanks currently in Ukraine had to came through those assembly lines. Whether it's a T-90M or a T-55 Obr. 2024.
...I'm sorry, but are you saying that the Russians are making NEW T-55s?
no, he's saying that the T-55s first have to undergo
>extensive maintenance and/or partial rebuild
They do make piece of shit metal coffins for ziggers to get turned into paste inside.
So I wouldn't say nothing.
Uncle Sam is really looking out for those F16s, huh?
