Is it me or do you never see Ukrainian or Russian troops with SAW type weapons? I only notice platoon level machine guns like the 240 and pkm and company lvl like the 50.

Both sides just hurl their own shit at each other as area denial weapons
there was some footage of bong mercs doing recon and one of them had an rpk
lots of photos and videos of ukies repurposing machine guns from tanks they downed
Do RPKs and PKMs count?
PKM no, its like the 240.
Not sure about the RPK, a 762 drum seems heavy along with a longer barrel seems to heavy.
A SAW can be shoulder fired and used to clear buildings. The M249 is the most casually producing small arm according to 11Bs. The 249 also shares the same 556.
>PKM no, its like the 240
Official doctrine yes, but Russians have been using the PKM over the RPK even for SAW purposes for quite sometime.
Same can be said for Ukes, FN MAGs/240s may not exactly be distributed perfectly at the squad level, but they're definitely more prevalent in Plt sized elements than most NATO countries agree on... which kind of sucks because I think RPKs are pretty cool, but it seems both sides aren't to crazy about them
s
>PKM no, its like the 240.
PKMs are considerably lighter than 240 it's closer to the Mk 48 both in weight and usage.
SAWs running on mags sucks major dick
>SAWs running on mags sucks major dick
SAWs use drums, it being able to use mags as well are last ditch oh frick features
pkm is light enough but the ammo belts and box mags are insanely heavy
>isn't sure if a pkm or an rpk are SAWs
I've seen lots of GPMGs, it seems like with how static stuff is you're either suppressing an area with a PKM or you're throwing grenades/dropping them from drones and assaulting with your personal carbine
Many militaries use 240 and PKM type weapons at the squad level
>Many militaries use 240 and PKM type weapons at the squad level
1 squad in a platoon out of 4 that's called heavy weapons squad. The rest of the squads not heavy have SAWs.
The UK has a M240 and a DMR for every infantry squad
My homie, are you dense? We're not discussing US military doctrine here?
>SAW
dont all branches of US military hate these things
they're a bit clapped out at this point, they were good when they were new
>dont all branches of US military hate these things
No. Its not light and easy as having m4 carbine but doesn't suck dick no where near as much as being in heavy weapons squad god forbid being the assistant gunner or ammo bearer for the 240.
No, the problem is that most m249s are pretty old
>platoon level machine guns like the 240
estonians use swedish license 240 on squad level, why do you need a SAW?
>estonians use swedish license 240 on squad level
Every single squad in a platoon? Doubt it.
The 240 is not mobile, it needs to be set up and micro positioned preferably on a tripod
we ran 10 man squads
it had the following
1x squad leader AK4
1x squad leader assistant AK4+UGL
1x MG KSP58
1x MG assistant AK4 + ammo belts and spare barrel for KSP58
1x AT AK4+carl gustav
1x AT assistant AK4 + CG ammo
1x medic AK4
3x rifleman AK4 and usually had training for 50cal HMG or replacment for either the MG or AT
and this is light infantry battalion
Your battle drills must be allot different then. We just had 1 heavy squad with two 240s that would set up for other squads to maneuver, but this was the army during the WOT, not sure what they are doing now.
lots BRAAP and BANG
US Army still does the same thing. In an Rifle Platoon there are 3 rifle squads with 2 SAWs each - and 1 weapons squad with 2 240s
Estonian here served in 2020/21 as squad leader. Ran a 8 man dismount/2 men in the APC setup.
Squad leader Galil AR
Deputy squad leader Galil AR w UGL
Sharpshooter w scoped M14
Combat medic w Galil AR
MG gunner w MG3
Assistan Gunner w barrels and MG3 ammo and galil AR
AT guy with Carl Gustav M2 and galil
Assistant AT with CG ammo and galil
Pasi XA-188 APC w M2 browning
We sometimes formed heavy weapon squads eg I would give away my MG gunner pair and would recieve a additional medic and sharpshooter, however that was rare, instead if we went full infantry, we ususally took off the browning from one of our APC-s and had it attach to the fire squad, while the manouver squad would remain the same.
has any conscript even been issued an galatz? its always AK4 TP or M14 TP
galatzes were collecting dust in the weapons room + the R20 switch made sure that they would be phased out.
>Deputy squad leader Galil AR w UGL
what GL do they use? mounting to the galil must be a pain if not pretty heavy too
Don't know the exact model, some sort of HK one if i remember correctly.
>10 man
I will never understand why armies don't double up on the MG and AT capacity of their squads. Every second rifleman in a first world army should be packing a GL as well
Shit is heavy
M2 at 15kg is a b***h
M4 at 6kg sounds like a dream, ammo is still a b***h to lug around
you're infantry. Since when has turning your guys into a mule team ever been an issue before?
It's easy to tell other people what to do when you never have to do it yourself.
What i hated about heavy weapons sqaud was how everyone was always wondering why you are slower than everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed watching those people fumble around like morons with belt links when they get switched to it.
>moronic private discovers that different militaries have different training, tactics, and doctrine.
I don't know who your Team Leader is but I hope he finds out what kind of moronic drivel you're posting here.
You have a hipster complex? No shit its different, the OP starts by pointing out a big difference as the topic.
>Team Leader
They are not very smart anon
>You have a hipster complex?
Yes, he could have Googled this. Literally just looking at BattleOrder shows that a ton of militaries outside the US use 7.62mm MGs as SAWs.
>I only notice platoon level machine guns like the 240 and pkm and company lvl like the 50.
240s and PKMs are often used at the squad level outside the US.
That sucks, you cant escape by joining another squad.
they've been donated SAWs and GPMGs
soviet style armies doesn't have a strict equivalent of the SAW. the closest thing they have is the RPK, and that doesn't have belt or quick change barrel.
subsequently, a lot of them just go back to the PKM since the RPK have the typical issue of automatic rifle trying to be a LMG.
Yeah, I've also noticed the absence of RPKs which is super weird. Even PKM's seem to be pretty scarce. It seems that 99% of people are just running around with AK's.
This footage came out today
imagine the smell
The PKM weighs about the same as the SAW and is also a lot more reliable. It's used the same way the SAW is.
