I have a shavette that holds these blades just by a spring clamp— but the blades are not locked in securely. There is nothing other than the pressure of the clasps pressing together to hold in each blade.

These are the razors blades in question.
What the frick do you want? You want to know if we know of a shavette that doesn't just use friction? Is this a real thread? Are you AI?
The only disposable blades you can buy that are as sharp and keen as a perfectly honed german straight razor are these. Id like to be able to find a utility knife that locks these bad boys into place.
Im not an italian mobster trying to wack someone. I just think the idea of a blade edge that is thin enough to fricking splice a molecule of dna is really (really) cool.
Lol any straight razor properly honed is of equal sharpness. German steel isn't somehow capable of getting sharper than English or American steel or any sharper than a bronze razor from antiquity.
Im pretty sure bronze is much softer of an alloy than modern carbon steel or ffs ceramic
Wrong, shavette razors are known for being too sharp that they can easily cause burns if you use any more than almost no pressure
The very act of honing and stropping convexes the edge just enough for them to not be the same sharpness of a new shavette blade.
>Im not an italian mobster trying to wack someone.
Don't you remember when you'd take a straight razor to the curb and nick it up and then throw it into a rain barrel to get it all rusty?
Or when you'd wear swim caps in the pool because of the pomade in your hair?
I learned a lot about wienerroaches.
He's thinking about them chocolate chips
Haha
i agree and i would buy one. i have a straight razor already too.
>when he was killed
he wasn't killed. he commit suicide with fentanyl whether he knew it or not
Yeah i think it would be fricking ill to have the sharpest razor you can buy in a utility knife. Not a SHTF thing but more like a “youre not mugging me, b***h” kind of thing.
You want an obsidian knife then. Steel even at its finest is too jagged at a molecular level. Obsidian can and does shave down to a point that can cut DNA and actual cells. They're not uncommon in microsurgery for that purpose.
Ive checked out obsidian blades but if you want one thats truly sharp then you will have to settle for one that is the size of a surgeons scalpel. I couldnt find any (top lvl) obsidian blades bigger than that, apart from the ones that look like indian arrow tips (picrel) and to my knowledge those arent that sharp.
You want to use a shaving razor as a utility knife?
Just get a stanley or milwaukee fastback like a normal person.
I have one, but my engineering fetish cuts deeper than that (no pun intended)
if you had an engineering fetish you would know how fricking horrible razor blades are for anything other than shaving.
Depends on the blade.
No it doesn't
Then engineer, commission, and sell a better design for shaving razors. There are loads of skinning/meat packing knives that use replaceable scalpel blades, but those are still designed for delicate work. If you want utility knife durability you need to use a utility knife.
just buy a straight razor.
Already have one.
no a real one. they come with fixed handles and just sharpen it.
I have a boker already
I have a $300 Shavesmith custom straight razor and a Feather shavette, I BY FAR prefer the Feather.
Do you use pro supers? You cant even touch the blade without fricking cutting yourself they are so keen
Yup. It's insane how sharp they can make em.
I also have a single edge Mongoose razor that takes the same blades. Get the same sharpness with the shaving motions of a double edge razor, mostly used if I'm too tired to trust myself touching the shavette to my face.
Haha nice.
How would straight razer blades be useful as a utility knife? The blade is so fragile it will be dull from cutting tape in a day and cardboard after a few swipes.
Simple, the sixteen year old gets to think "man, I've got the sharpest utility knife ever" as he puts it on a shelf and then doesn't touch it again until his parents throw him out.
My parents arent going to throw me out.
Other than that you are pretty much correct tho kek
I dont know if im partly crazy or what but i find well engineered products to be beautiful for the same reason i think true artists are worthless.
And i almost feel euphoria when i think about my toys being in perfect condition.
> would straight razer blades be useful as a utility knife?
depends on your trade
I wonder how sharp the switchblade was in this video.
Obviously its believable that the straight razor would cut better but if that se
swblade was truly (relatively) sharp it just proves how insanely sharp straight razors are
>locking utility knife that holds single edge feather razors?
Like a box cutter?
Buy a bunch of tooth brushes from the commissary.
Heat them up with the toilet paper fire you lit using a paper clip and outlet.
Stick the razor blades in the melted plastic.
You're.... Looking for a box cutter?
He wants a box cutter that takes shavette blades for some fricking reason. They're WAY sharper than box cutter blades, and also not at all suitable for any real work because they'll dull immediately if you use them for anything but shaving.
