I've been saying this since forever. If Russia "normalizes" the use of nukes, India has a major problem on their hand with Pakistan and China.

If monke is retarded/desperate enough to go "ook ook nook!" every other nuclear-capable nation is going to turn Russia into glass. It's the only "winning" strategy for them at that point. Aggressive use of nuclear weapons, let alone extortion with them, can not be tolerated by anyone.

This. If Russia pops off a nuke, and loses control of the escalation, and winds up in a general exchange, it is in Russia's best interest to nuke China as well as NATO--because NATO will be shooting at their nukes, and there probably won't be enough left over to deter China from seizing Siberia after the exchange, so use 'em or lose 'em. China, meanwhile, faces exactly the same concern regarding its own growing nuclear force: Russia might take most of them out, so best to nuke both Russia and India while they still have missiles left. And India faces the same decision regarding Pakistan and its nukes.

So, a single Russian nuke could lead to a chain of events that ends up with half of Asia getting nuked. There's no guarantee it would end up like that, but even the possibility has to have the Indians a little concerned.

Nobody's going to use nukes. It's all just posturing.

India has some valid cause to resent the US. We boosted up China to be a threat when they were a laughingstock. We spent decades aiding the Paki scum until we learned the lesson all who bargain with Mohammedians learn. We're closely tied to the UK in a way that is almost unique on Earth, and India still feels poorly about them. Until recently, the Soviets and later Russia had been surprisingly reliable.

        Sure thing, Pajeet.

Do you expect the US *not* to be an ally with Pakistan during the Cold War while India was an ally of the USSR, while the US was trying to take down the USSR and needed Pakistani help to do so to have any influence in Afghanistan??
Without Pakistan's geostrategic position, the US wouldn't even be near Central Asia. Majority of the USSR overall would have been outside US reach, and the western part already had buffers in the form of Warsaw Pact states.

India dislikes the UK because it's easier to blame a coloniser for all your problems rather than blame yourself. The Irish do it as well. Claim that had X not happened you'd by Y.

India blames everything on others, and the worst part is that Indian nationalists over the past decade go out of their way to get involved in issues that have nothing to do with India. In a practical sense I don't even have a problem with that because if India wants to get stuck in quicksand that's good news to me.

My only concern is politicians and companies across the West thinking that India is somehow the alternative to a future without China controlling all commercial manufacturing. They have the same aspirations, except India is far more schizo about things. Indians don't even try to hide their hatred of other religions and nations, their irredentist dreams and hopes of being a superpower.

That's what strikes me about modern Chinese. They're facing the same problem as Russia in that they are increasingly aggressively nationalistic but overall demoralized and apolitical. They just go along with whatever bullshit the big boss puts on everyone and live lives of resignation. They don't mind, because they still have personal liberty. They can complain about the government, eat fast food, watch porn, play cell phone games, try and get pussy.
When the government starts fucking their future because of some military adventure, they will be in the same position. They won't even be able to imagine a way out of their reality besides running away or doubling down on "China strong! Oldest civilization!"

India also has resentment towards people that's done nothing to them.
Palestinians never did shit to India and still has nothing to do with them.
Indians celebrate the Rohingya Genocide, and the Rohingya prevented a Japanese invasion of India during WW2. India handed Myanmar to China on a silver platter which hurts India's own security.
Indians prior to the May 2020 border clash with China even celebrated the Uyghur Genocide, and many still do.

Even when they use the excuse "Israel helped us, so we hate Palestinians on their behalf" it makes no fucking sense. Israel also supports Azerbaijan, and Indians nowadays hate Azerbaijan despite not know what it was just a few years earlier. Meanwhile, in actual financial terms Azerbaijan has far greater the trade with India than Armenia does. Indians are just detached from their own reality.

Everyone with a brain has anon and it's more than that. If that happened then every nation needs them, or a REALLY strong alliance with them, or some sort of deterrent if they can't make them (bioweapons seem the most likely). Like for China, it's not just those three, in terms of sheer technology and capability Japan and South Korea could build nukes in a real fucking hurry if they actually wanted to. Or demand America place nukes in their country. Even Taiwan could go after them, THAT would sure throw a spanner in China's plans. The NPT would be completely fucking dead, a country like Pakistan (or, obviously, Russia given its corruption) might well just start selling them to those with deep enough pocketbooks, same as other arms exports.

It's an utter fucking pandora's box nightmare. Nobody wants to see things go in that direction.

Eh, not bad by global standards. Fact is they're huge, the only similar sized country to China, and China is so fucking bad that it makes them look better. A bunch of companies now trying to hedge against China are plowing tons of money into moving around 1/3 of manufacturing to India despite its shit, well, everything. India is geographically ok, it has a huge mountain range to its north and a massive about of ocean front. Not land locked, lots of the border with other countries is non-trivial to get a big force across and then maintain logistics for.

Could they be in a thousand times BETTER position without their garbage government going down the authoritarian sectarian populism path? And general corruption and incompetence everywhere? Sure, 100%. But lots of other countries will continue to engage based on sheer realpolitik unless India went way farther down the rabbit hole. Nations rarely have "friends" they have interests. And at this point countries are mostly resigned to not making a big stink relatively speaking about what other countries do internally so long as it doesn't turn into fucking with other countries (that they care about). India's dysfunction is primarily internal or aimed at countries the West dislikes or is threatened by more, so no real problem there.

          >Do they even have any nuclear allies?
Britain has a new Prime Minister who seems unusually keen on a very, very tight relationship with India. In fact, he called up Modi almost before anyone else once King Charles officially granted him the position yesterday morning.

Technically, the U.S. is a nuclear capable ally, even if India's behavior over the last couple of decades has been pretty assholeish. I think the pajeets finally figured out that attending a university in America does not automatically convert them into whites so they have to return home in shame, still brown, and back to using designated shitting streets. They're pretty bitter about that.

Anyway. To your question: UK & U.S. Somewhat technically on some points but, overall, nuclear capable allies. There's nothing to really set these countries against each other in an adversarial sense ... just sometimes one or the other of them does something to annoy or maybe even piss off the others. But they're all stuck with each other because the other options are much worse.

              Anonymous

Maybe re-read my post for the actual words I chose? They were meant to have meaning. A couple other people also weighed in with valid comments, with some crossover on this theme. "TECHNICALLY," you would use the word "ally" rather than "adversary" or "enemy." India would have to something as retarded as russia invading Ukraine right at the start of mud season with an army that doesn't even know it's engaged in a war (just to pull a random, purely fantasy example out of my ass) to lose the goodwill and backing of the U.S.

Also, the U.S. didn't really "pick" Pakistan. Pakistan was the option that was left after India did some utterly fucktarded shit that makes vatmorons look like genius professors at MIT. There's been no time in the past 50 years that any part of India was stable enough for the U.S. to invest in military options on India clay, something which India also made clear they weren't going to tolerate. Politically, it wasn't an option because India wouldn't/couldn't get its shit together long enough to decide what the fuck they wanted, other than free gibs and more free gibs and more free gibs.

Pakistan used to have a secular government, populated with some of the most educated men on the planet, men who had attended some of the best universities the West had to offer. It was very similar to Iran before the Iranian revolution of the1970s and Iraq before Saddam Hussein turned it into a shithole. Very secularized, very Westernized, cosmopolitan. After the Soviets fucked the region over with its Afghanistan adventure, Pakistan was one of the collateral casualties as it slid into a muslim shithole.

Problem being, Dick Cheney and his puppet monkeyboy had no idea that had changed by 2002/2003 and tried to use Pakistan as if it was the Westernized country it had been in the 1980s. Whoops.

              And here we are.

After the Soviets fucked the region over with its Afghanistan adventure, Pakistan was one of the collateral casualties as it slid into a muslim shithole.
When Afghanistan first kicked off, Pakistan was still seen as the lesser of evils and potentially something that could be worked with. It was still under relatively secular military rule, albeit definitely on the way down. Everyone knew paki intelligence agencies played footsie with Muslim terrorists as part of their enmity with India, but it was often viewed the same as America itself who armed Muslim groups against the Soviets in the past. The inmates weren't clearly running the asylum.

And also Afghanistan just plain is a shit place in terms of logistics. There were times when the US simply had zero good options. Which you could argue was a reason to never go there beyond the initial revenge campaign and then immediately leave but sadly we had idiots in charge.

One of the many good things about finally getting the fuck out of there is that it's not our problem anymore.

I foresee India buying 64 Rafales pretty soon to add to those they already have and potentially replace their Su-30s as frontline fighter in case of another confrontation against Pakistan or China, if Russia decides to stop supplying India with spare parts. Also they probably learned not to send Mig-21s against F-16s.

I'd disagree with the other anons and say they are in quite a bit of a difficult situation exacerbated by their stand off ish diplomacy towards their small neighbours. Having two nuclear powered countries at your border is always a cause for concern, particularly if one of those countries is Pakistan. China I believe isn't retarded enough to resort to nukes even in case of a serious war, but we'd have said the same about Putin 12 months ago. I do agree they are geographically well off with mountainous terrain making ground invasion quite difficult for both Pakistan and China. That being said, the latter has been sighted building military infrastructure near their contested borders including an air field while Indian soldiers live in conditions so bad that soldier suicide happens quite a lot apparently. Aside from these concerns, I believe one point that's often overlooked is that Pakistan-US relations have been strong since the 60s to the point of institutionalization, and no matter how much saber rattling Biden does it will be difficult to break it off and build a similar relationship with India instead, despite Pakistan also getting Chinese honey.

The problem with India is, even with all the starting advantages they had as some kind of bargain (being a post-colonial country, good geography, large population and territories, etc.) it has managed to jeopardize its foreign relations so hard that no one really thinks it's a reliable ally. And when everyone thinks like that, they would only see India as a convenient tool to use and discard when they're done with the country. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy after years of retarded Hindu chauvinism, gaslighting their entire society into blaming the Brits for everything wrong with their society, being unwilling to accept external criticisms (which are often more objective due to the disinterested nature), among other things. And of course, their pretense for muh third world Cold War neutrality, and all that, even though at this point it's just a bullshit excuse for short-sighted opportunist ventures.

Consider just how desperately out of cash russia is right now. Trading off what assets they have is one of their only viable options. They can even trade fully assembled nukes that they know for a fact don't work because countries (like Iran & North Korea) would gladly have them just to disassemble them for their own research. As far as russia is concerned, they get whatever they trade for, and make the nuclear waste from non-functioning missiles "some other country's" problem.

Most countries that have enough to trade russia for nukes don't have the infrastructure in place or even the basic knowledge to maintain a working nuke in working order. For most places that would even attempt such a thing, if they trade for a working nuke, it won't remain working for very long ... creating a strong incentive to "use it or lose it."

It occurs to me, the West could attempt to covertly buy/trade for russia's nukes (or, at least some of them) by going through a proxy country. They wouldn't get even close to all of them, but every nuke removed from russia can't be used. Each single device is a small but significant victory. Also, massive evidence that russia is a terrorist nation selling nukes off to the highest bidder. If that news were to break, the entire world would be ten times more pissed off at russia than they already are. Maybe even 100x.

If anyone can even imagine that amount of rage & anger.

          >make Putin sell nukes because his bottom line is hurting from sanctions, then expose him for selling them
That would be the rough equivalent of entrapment, but, then again, international politics doesn't actually have laws. If you can get away with it, it's "legal".

            >That would be the rough equivalent of entrapment
No, entrapment is only a thing for individuals, not organizations, and even then it's not just any covert buy it would have to actively be induced. But nukes are so serious (and traceable) that the only framework that works is that if you build one you are responsible for it. That includes securing it, even against someone trying to actively bribe you for it. Nobody gives a fuck about quibbles or excuses if a city goes up, if you can't secure it you shouldn't have made it in the first place. Additionally if "oh it wasn't us" can be used then there is the incentive to purposefully slip them to terrorists and evade responsibility which just can't be a thing.

So yeah there'd be no "getting away with it."

Not even just states, there are plenty of companies and such where the standard is "you are always responsible for everything no matter what short of act of God, so you best train your people to deal with hostile criminal elements and even states". Companies that deal with certain biosafety lab research involving level 4 type pathogens, chemical companies, nuclear material/production handling companies, the really black project companies etc. Or major life/safety stuff. At some level reasons stop mattering, part of the job is that hostile agents will be trying to get whatever it is you're doing, so no excuses allowed, it's part of what you're getting paid for.

If Russia started selling to countries like that it'd be just or more as bad to other countries as them using tactical nukes in Ukraine, so no that'd still kick off a big response. If they sell to terrorists than in addition to response non-zero chance some of those come right back at Russia.

Seriously though nukes have signatures and if Russia sold a nuke to someone who then went and used it on the West it would (and must) be treated as if Russia used it, that's the framework already and it's a required one. The only way a nuke market develops is if it was allowed to get normalized and I still think it'd stay nation-state only since it'd still make sense to assign responsibility to the producer.

          >It occurs to me, the West could attempt to covertly buy/trade for russia's nukes (or, at least some of them) by going through a proxy country
I assume this is already a thing, that a big thing intel agencies in general sniff around for is any nukes going for a walk.

I hate to break it to you anon, but most soil is ~ half mineral, of which it is mostly silica, aka sand. The organic material and water in soil near the epicenter will be vaporized in a nuclear detonation, leaving silica and other minerals to be fused by the heat. Airburst detonations would probably be less likely to produce glass, however.

Depends on what Boris and his followers do. There's a year and a half or so until the next election and Johnson will want to be party leader again by that time. The attempted coup is inevitable but when is question.

Sunak was the favourite of Tory MPs to replace Boris. During the Tory leadership campaign many games were played by all sides, including contenders asking their supporters in parliament to vote for opponents who they considered to be the weakest. When it got to the last two candidates it was put to Tory party members who predictably voted for the white person who would cut their taxes. Much like Brexit this was not a result that the great majority of Tory MPs wanted.

To absolutely no one's suprise Truss was a totally shit show who caused a financial crises with her first statement to parliament. Every single media appearance was also a total disaster. Consistent polling showed an absolute annihilation of support for the Tories, with some even suggesting they would lose all of their seats. She needed to be got rid of as soon as possible so the 1922 committee changed the rules so a much higher amount of support from Tory MPs was needed to run for party leader and a much much tighter timescale (a week compared to months last time). No one else was able to get the required level of support by Monday so Sunak was crowned. It was essentially middle ground conventional Tory MPs staging a coup against the right of the party and the members of the party.

Boris was apparently getting his supporters to vote for Truss during the last leadership contest as he thought she would be a total shit show and people would be begging him to return within a year. However it moved much quicker than what he was expecting. Due to current scandals Boris is very unpopular domestically just now, it will be a few years before that changes (if it does). He will most likely delay any leadership attempt until after the Tories lose the next election and hope to lead them into victory in 2030. Pretty unlikely to happen. Tories will be out until 2035.

        Anonymous

He's going to last much longer short of another truly calamitous fuckup. The fact is that Tories are starting to head towards election. They will certainly resist calling an early one because right now they would get SLAUGHTERED by Labour, like they're 30 fucking points behind. But they will be forced by law to call an election no later than Jan 2025, so around two years to go and less before things shift into hardcore campaign mode. Constantly dumping and swapping PMs eventually becomes a bad look all by itself so there will be increased resistance to doing so again.
