yeah naw the boys loved Patton, he meant Berlin showed up faster, and that meant Home showed up faster.
It's all literally true. That's why guys fight for tough generals, if you have to be there miserable you might as well do something. Literally basal proposition of all militaries.
Even if Patton was a barbarian commander with no stirrups, men would come and fight for him and would seek out the opportunity to join him. It's something to do, the most noble something, testing a man's grit in battle. Patton delivers on the test and expects you to succeed. Men respond to that more than any other call including skyspirit bullshit.
Every chld knows that play is more noble than work, and War is the ultimate play, and Patton is an ultimate Warlord.

It does when your people are cut off from supplies and pooland will not negotiate and starts killing your people and driving them from their homes.
Pooland was being shitty and they deserved what they got.
German aggression against pooland was completely justified.

Non-sequitur. A lighter belt-fed LMG with interchangeable barrel is better for the role of squad automatic weapon than a BAR is and the US would have benefited if they had one more like the MG42/34. Theres a reason both the east and west quickly transitioned to belt-fed LMGs after the war, and why a derivative of the MG42 is still in service to this day in Europe and Ukraine while the BAR is not.
>was going to point out FN's mag and minimi >look it up real quick >belgium >france >austria >sweden >upside down browning bolt >mg 42 feed system and trigger
I still think it is worth mentioning as a browning derivitive that's still in use, even if the last item in the above list weakens the point I was going for.
Well thats the real point ain't it they had to significantly change it particularly to be more like an mg42, while the mg3 is literally just an mg42 but chambered in a different round with slightly slower rate of fire.
That reminds me of one of the most hilarious training videos of all time, where they unconvincingly tried to persuade their soldiers that all their automatic weaponry were superior to the German equivalents.
The M1 Garand was superior to the Mauser 98(k).
The BAR served its function as a proto LMG quite well and was more mobile than German MG38 or MG42 and units could field more of them.
The .30 Carbine was an excellent SDW.
The M3 a decent SMG.
Really, U.S weapons were great and the U.S had the logistics and wartime economy to make as many as they needed. Logistics really being Burgerland's bonus ability.
Some of those weapons were probably in armories clear into the 1980's.
America's issues had more to do with doctrine and tactics than weaponry.
>Really, U.S weapons were great
Even your yid masters didn't believe that or they wouldn't have immediately started poaching Nazi scientists, etc. the moment the war ended.

Springfield Armoury tried so hard to clone the MG-42, but failed, both because they could not intro metric-imperial conversions and their pathological need to fiddle with with dimensions. This sort of cloning of European guns always seems to be a kryptonite in the American arms industry.
>Some of those weapons were probably in armories clear into the 1980's.
I saw tommy guns used in Yugoslav war on numerous photos and videos when I was a kid.
t.40yo boomer
Overall they were pretty good.
Firstly the rifles, the soldier's best friend: >M1 garand, 8 shot semi-auto >M1 Johnson, 10 shot semi-auto >Springfield, 5 shot boltgun
America entered with mainly the first one. Second was used in a smaller capacity, and third was mostly for marksmen and snipers by then rather than standard infantry. America entered the war with semi-auto rifles, which it had since the 1930s. Germany didn't enter the war with those kinds of weapons, the infantry were stuck with the Kar98k as their battle rifle until they finally started fielding the Gewehr 43 halfway in and too late to be of real use anymore. The Sturmgewehr was admittedly very impressive, but it came far, far too late due to administrative bullshit.
For the SMGs: >Thompson, 20 round .45, admitted piece of shit >M3, 30 round .45, breddy good >M1 Carbine, .30 cal, good shit despite what Korean war vets say
Overall I'd say America was ok here anyways, while the MP40 was good, America could still counter it. These are also close quarters weapons anyway, except the carbine which was pretty multi-use and was a better SMG-role weapon than the actual SMGs, which is why I put it here
MGs: >BAR, 20 rounder >M1919, belt-fed
Heavy, yeah, but the backbone of the US squad was riflemen rather than relying on the MG. If the MG guys are taken out, who's left? Garands against glorified hunting muskets. Semi-auto beats bolt.
I'm not gonna claim that FDR wasn't a commie-aiding rat, but the equipment was not bad. If we'd had a Republican in office like Hoover, Landon, Willkie, or even Dewey (all Reps who ran against FDR if you don't know, although plenty of Dems also hated the homosexual), then I'm certain we would have immediately rearmed Germany under our banner after taking Berlin and taken the fight to Moscow to deal with them once and for all.
>The Sturmgewehr was admittedly very impressive, but it came far, far too late due to administrative bullshit.
Tests done in 1945 had reports they were unreliable and inferior to their own weapons. http://www.lonesentry.com/articles/ttt07/stg44-assault-rifle.html
Well, impressive for the time. Today it wouldn't be, considering that it's successors (the G3 family) tend to be better since they ironed out all the kinks, aside from some variants and clones mangling brass during ejection. Hell, the MP5 is legendary and it's just the same action scaled down for 9mm.
The video is right, though, the MG42 had a pointlessly high rate of fire. There's basically no difference between suppressing fire at 1000 rpm and suppressing fire at 2000 rpm. Except for the second one you run out of bullets twice as fast. So either you waste more logistics space to carry ammo or you get less actual firing time.
Not to mention the barrel wear. There were tons of problems the MG42 had in the field people don't like to talk about due to that overly huge rate of fire.
In the first place, the video is a direct result of the superior suppressive effect of the MG-42, much good it did them. Nobody used the MG42 like you imagine though. You let off a short burst for suppressive fire.
Actually French tanks were superior to German at the start of the war. Same with Brits. The issue was that the French and Brits used 'pocket tank' tactics. Which is a single tank you surround with infantry to protect it from AT weapons, whilst the tank engages other tank. The Germans instead made entire units of tanks. So while a Matilda could possibly take out one or two Pz II's, the other 6 would flank and destroy it, the infantry squads being fricked by other infantry squads and tanks. Had the tactics of 45 on both sides been in 40, it would have been very different. Oh and any 'defensive lines' got shredded by CAS the Germans mastered.
French tanks were only superior in that they had good armor. They often had one man turrets(an absolutely crippling feature), frequently lacked radios, and almost always had very poor speeds. The Char B1 also possessed a hull mounted gun of dubious practicality.
You will notice tanks designed afterwards(including French tanks) do not possess these features.
>5k for a reproduction is fricking absurd.
To be fair, they are extremely well made reproductions, I'd argue one of the best WWII repros out there by far.
OOW made WWI repros licensed by Colt too, but those were a limited release and are $8k+ >I'm salty af I can't get a modernized version of this.
That's why the HCAR exists.
Give it a pistol grip, give it a decent bipod, don't bother with the rate of fire modifier or whatever you call it just keep the original fire selector, give it a quick detach barrel if you're feeling fancy. So basically what everyone else did with their BARs except the US.
they just went the route of the M14 instead, which is a functionally better rifle in every way
but tech moved so fast because of the Alien landings in the 1940s and their technology sharing on polymers and fission that we abandoned wooden guns for plastic ones
I'm talking about changes that should have been made in the interwar period if not during WW1.

>implying anyone wanted to spend copious dollarydoos on weapons or military after the first world war
They had insane amounts of trouble scaring up cash even AFTER the war started, and still had to use war bonds and extreme rationing/confiscation. There was frick-all available for R&D on new guns, it was basically independently funded with a few minor exceptions like the Garand. Everyone was sick of war and didn't want to think about another one, that's why they left Hitler alone for so long thinking he'd just tire himself out like a toddler.
It wasn't bad in WW2 either. It was bad in the paper infantry doctrine the US tried to use it with, where a 12 man squad would pack 2 of these BAR's to use as a bipod mounted LMG with 2 ammo bearers and the company would have a couple m1919's belt fed guns as support. The reality is that infantry squads would carry 2 or sometimes 3 BAR's with the heavy bipods striped off and used them more as automatic rifles than LMG's. They were very useful on the assault being 7-10lbs lighter than other light machine guns and balanced for shoulder fire. The belt fed M1919's supporting the company were also used in greater numbers alongside vehicle mounted M2 heavy machine guns.
The difference between paper doctrine and the more effective loadout the soldiers were actually carrying led the US army to officially adjust the equipment pool 1944, rather than trying to reorganize they gave each company a weapons pool with 6 more BAR's and 6 SMG's to be handed out at the company commanders discretion and 6 m1919's to be handed out at the battalion commanders, basically a you kids go have fun strategy to organization. In Korea this organizational change would be put onto paper changing from 3 squads of 12 men each with one BAR to 3 squads of 9 men with 2 BAR's and a support squad of 9 men backing 2 m1919 LMG's and 2 anti-tank weapons, a load out more akin to what the men actually carried into battle in the previous war.
> 3 squads of 12 men each with one BAR to 3 squads of 9 men with 2 BAR's and a support squad of 9 men backing 2 m1919 LMG's and 2 anti-tank weapons
Looka that. If you can make all that shit work in one spot, you nearly have an invincible mlitary, and when you run into guys like the Germans who actually CAN make that type of firepower work if they have it, your military makes a legend about how legendary those guys were because they can operate all the ordnance/weaponry/doctrine/maneuver bullshit that gets dumped on a capable force.
If you're a Navy and you can get liquid fuel and supplies from one ship to another *regularly*, you're practically invincible. Except for picrel, the Japanese can't get all their shit together in one spot. That's why the US has to win Leyte. The order of battle of Leyte Gulf is literally getting all your shit operating in one spot, the Japs can't, they lose. Simple as.
Everything was. Metallurgy sucked major ass back then.
Basically every WW2 lmg sucked and was too heavy, with the bren being probsbly the least worst.
That's what made the MG-34/42 and the GPMG revolution they brought such a big deal.
BAR's biggest issue were it's 10 round magazine
The monitor, while reall really cool, wasn't ideal for filling the m1918 and 1920's shoes.
A lot of the weight you can reduce in an MG or rifle is in the barrel.
A light barrel wouldn't be an issue for the monitor in it's intended role as an early pseudo battle rifle born of the paleolithic era of SWAT but it would be an issue for sustained fire. Though that's not to say the BAR wasn't frequently used in a similar role by the military.
Things like the BAR and M1/2 carbine sre part of what makes the pioneer era of maneuver firepower, the birth of the modern lmg, assault rifle, and GPMG so interesting.
It really was the wild west and no one knew what they were doing but they shared similar goals
most non german LMGs were a little mediocre at the time and in the American's case it really wasn't helped by them using .30-06 since a BAR is already a pain to shoot as heavy as it is even
Unwieldy, heavy, outdated. But we had a lot of them already, and they managed to kill a lot of Germans. Sure, they could have, in some alternate time line, used a different weapon to fill its roll. But, they did what they had to. So, eh, who cares.
You could easily find 500 better rifles than the BAR for less money, it's a relic and only has weird nostalgic value like the crude and ineffective 1911 that some people still enjoy.

I doubt the German soldiers that Medal of Honor awardee Sgt Alvin York shot with his M1911 found it very ineffective..
the gun that they sell now called "browning bar" has nothing to do with the old one. ohio ordnance makes a modernized clone called the hcar but it's super expensive.
I like how there's one literally seething poltard in here mad that someone made a 3 nazis walk into a BAR joke and posting on cooldown about how muh allies were bad. Being a wehraboo should be a capital offense.
Not a wehraboo.
I just have an actually understanding of what happened in WWII that's not all propaganda and lies.
My eyes have been opened and I can't go back to sleep.
don't mind me fellas I'm just the actual machine gun used by US infantry in parity to the mg42 I just couldn't be fired from the shoulder in a pinch ooooh gee wizz how will I ever compete in large scale combined arms warfare.
that is the world war 1 variant. Also don't forget the sights were kinda shit for an MG (too small and fine, like target sights). And the mags were shitty and prone to jamming
Yes, but the 240 is belt fed with 200 round cans instead of 20 round box mags.
The extra weight is worth the added capacity.
All weapons are a list of compromises and the 240 adds a little weight for better suppression
I can't judge it since I have never held it. I don't think you can ever judge a gun unless you have finger-fricked it at least. I never thought the M1 carbine was anything to be excited about until I held one. It's so light and easy to handle. I think it's a great gun and now I want one. I can't take your word for it. I'd have to hold one to know.
Considering that it was designed for use in WW1, it was a great addition at the time.
If it had been belt-fed it might still be officially in use in places.
I think considering how the world thought in the time it was made, it was entirely justified.
People back then nearly all thought all semi-auto firearms were inherently "unstable" and were prone to blow up in your hands or fail if a speck of dust looked at it funny. Not because this was a thought based in reality, it's that a lot of people were just fricking morons, the sort that would tell men to walk slowly towards an MG nest because they'll be trying to compensate by shooting ahead of your or some such bullshit.
Most militaries got over this regarding small caliber shit, such as handguns or pistol caliber carbines, but the idea of a semi-auto rifle was still seen as utterly absurd in that time period. What few handheld automatic or semi-automatic firearms that existed were typically overbuilt as all hell to sell the idea that it won't turn you into a red splatter on the ground. Just take a look at what else was floating around out there with the BAR:
Lewis Gun >weight: 28 pounds >capacity: 47 rounds, mag fed
Chauchat >weight: 20 pounds >capacity: 20 rounds, mag fed (handy strip cut out in the middle to insert mud and jam your gun on demand)
Hotchkiss M1909 >weight: 26.5 pounds >capacity: 30 round feed strip (glorified stripper clip) or belt fed (of course you don't get a pouch for that)
Huot Automatic Rifle as a bonus >weight: 19 pounds loaded >capacity: 25 rounds, mag fed >number built: 5
The only actual LMG from the period that I think manages to edge out the BAR is the Madsen MG, and only barely on the metric of weight-to-capacity >weight: 20 pounds >capacity: 25, 30, or 40 round magazines
Either way, the BAR manages to be the one of lightest of the LMGs from the Great War, and I'd rather carry it over its contemporaries if I have to pick one of them.
Browning made his shit compact as he could. If he couldn't get it below 15 pounds, then you know that nobody else alive in that time could have either.
Interviewed a Korea War vet for a veterans day article I had to write back when I was a newspaper reporter in bum frick. He was a BAR man and I asked him his thoughts on the platform, mentioning that I had read about it being somewhat unpopular/dated by Korean War due to its weight and limited magazine capacity. His response was "Well, the Chinks sure didn't like it."
I've handled a few BARs, a Bren, an MG42, and a Lewis.
Lewis was horrendous, the barrel shroud puts all the weight at the muzzle.
Then Bren was pretty heavy too.
The MG42 was quite unwieldy and long.
The BAR was very manageable, perfectly balanced.
I dont even lift anymore.

they lost
And none of that compares to being completely annihilated, split in half, and gelded as a nation because you sperg'd out over Poland.
Pooland was being shitty and deserved it.

doesn't that make you wrong, anon?
Are you going to disagree with Paton?
to be fair, Patton was a total prick to his men and most that fought under him had no respect for his methods because he saw their lives as totally disposable

Patton was right.
We defeated the wrong enemy.
Are you suggesting we should have a holocaust for people who use reddit?
>Are you suggesting we should have a holocaust for people who use reddit?
Yes.
>an ounce of sweat is worth a quart of blood
yeah naw the boys loved Patton, he meant Berlin showed up faster, and that meant Home showed up faster.
That's a nice word salad but Patton was a brutal homosexual ZOGbot who is responsible for killing millions of Aryans and Americans in a pointless war.
Yes, I am. He was a good commander but politically moronic and thought that PTSD didn't exist.
Also, nice deflection. You didn't answer the question.
>You didn't answer the question
What? Does might make right?
It does when your people are cut off from supplies and pooland will not negotiate and starts killing your people and driving them from their homes.
Pooland was being shitty and they deserved what they got.
German aggression against pooland was completely justified.
Imagine defending poolands "honor" on a mongolian underwater basket weaving forum to "own le nazi chuds"
Tell me, why did we start a world war over pooland getting invaded if we then allowed fricking stalin to literally rape and burn said pooland?
So you acknowledge might makes right. Now, of course the Nazis lost the war. So therefore, they were not mightly, and thus, not right. Simple.
>your people are cut off from supplies
Like, just load up a boat or a ship dude.
>Like, just load up a boat or a ship dude.
No.
Why don't you just keep the rail lines open like what was previously agreed upon?
Why didn't you just stick to the sudetenland like what was previously agreed upon?
And the annexation of the sudetenland was agreed upon by germany, britain, france and italy.
The hostilities began with pooland and their treatment of germans in the german territory of east prussia.
>annexation of the sudetenland was agreed upon by germany, britain, france and italy
Ok, but he annexed all of Czechoslovakia like a greedy israelite instead.
>Local problem, local solution.
It would've been a local solution if he had only secured east prussia and seized the polish corrider. Instead he seized half of Poland, that isn't a local solution. That's Hitler being a greedy israelite.
>Czechoslovakia
That was germany's and they took it back
>seized half of Poland
Germany lost territory to pooland in the treaty of versailles. Pooland was shitty so they lost east prussia and germany gained back lost territory and then some. Why don't you come to the negotiation table and have a talk about it, pooland?
>austrian/hungarian territories
>german
Nah, that's like saying Norway should own Spurdoland because Sweden.
Pooland annexed pieces of czechoslovakia first.
It became more enemy territory that was seized by seized by germany.
>muh czechoslovakia
Czechoslovakia was to remain independent but under german control in the 1939 peace deals proposed by Hitler.
Do you want to talk about norway, denmark or how about iceland? Iceland which was successfully seized by allied forces to serve as a base of operations, against iceland's will, after they couldn't snatch up the first two?
Pooland was killing and driving away germans from their homes in east prussia. They were clearly looking to absorb east prussia into pooland after kicking the germans out.
Hitler said frick that and frick pooland.
Local problem, local solution. A local european war between two nations like we've had time and time again throughout history.
The west knew this would happen and emboldened pooland in order to start a WWII. And then after the west got what it wanted (WWII) pooland was abandoned and slatin was allowed to murder, rape and pillage pooland to the fricking ground.
And france?
France declared war on germany after the invasion of pooland.
France flipped the switch into war mode by declaring it.
They fricked around.
They found out.
Seems to me like Germany found out, anon.
You asked about france.
They declared war. Not germany.
That's why germany invaded france.
If Neville Chamberlain weren't a cuck he would have done it earlier.
Good for him.

Also, even if we believe that Canned Goods is a israeli conspiracy to discredit the wholesome innocent nazi-rinos, as you undoubtedly do, don't you think that the sheer brutality undertaken by them was a bit... excessive?
Burning Warsaw to the ground, massacring civilians, killing 50,000 Polish officers, everything associated with Dirlewanger
Thats not even considering the active extermination campaign against ethnic Poles (not polish israelites, mind you, ethnic poles)

Patton was not politically moronic, because he recognized who the real enemy was. Which was stalin, communism and the hoards of eurasian mongoloids raping europe.
Germany was the enemy of israeli bankers and that's why they were crushed.
We teamed up with communism in order to subjugate the one european nation that didn't want to play ball with israeli banking supremacy.

I'm just offended there's frickers dumb enough to think human bodies need to be smelted like titanium and aren't practically matchlight, burning like candles. Pooland was emboldened by the west to not negotiate with germany.
So pooland refused to negotiate.
Germany attacked and fricked up pooland real quick.

Well thats the real point ain't it they had to significantly change it particularly to be more like an mg42, while the mg3 is literally just an mg42 but chambered in a different round with slightly slower rate of fire.
That reminds me of one of the most hilarious training videos of all time, where they unconvincingly tried to persuade their soldiers that all their automatic weaponry were superior to the German equivalents.
lmao they call the kid a "replacement" while showing this video to literal replacements

>Really, U.S weapons were great
Even your yid masters didn't believe that or they wouldn't have immediately started poaching Nazi scientists, etc. the moment the war ended.
>the nazi scientists who we poached to create our new small arms, like the m14, ar-15 and the m60
Nazis didn't make our rifles, our machine guns or our LMGs.
Even our portable rocket weapons were either bazooka derivatives or later, were developed by a Swede.
Wehrboos are fricking tards.
Nah anon, every technological development the US made since WWII was the direct result of powerful Aryan intellect being applied. The projects lead by german scientists weren't just better-funded and actually applied developments of nazi "This will win the war instantly" wunderwaffe
That has frick all to do with ANY of our small arms developments, which is what was being referred to here.
Nazi scientists had more to do with NASA than anything else.
anon, i....
Show me where the nazi scientists made our small arms.
I'm pretty positive the M14 was just a magazine fed M1 and the M16 was the work of Eugene Stoner.
I was literally shitposting, the only things nazi scientists did in the US was make actual functional versions of "wunderwaffe" that had postwar applications.
m60 = mg42 feed, lewis gun gas, fg42 ergos
>has never heard of the M60
it's literally a clone of the MG42
No, it's a clone of the fg-42
Springfield Armoury tried so hard to clone the MG-42, but failed, both because they could not intro metric-imperial conversions and their pathological need to fiddle with with dimensions. This sort of cloning of European guns always seems to be a kryptonite in the American arms industry.

>implying that acclimating your troops and making them feel better about upcoming combat is a bad thing
Overall they were pretty good.
Firstly the rifles, the soldier's best friend:
>M1 garand, 8 shot semi-auto
>M1 Johnson, 10 shot semi-auto
>Springfield, 5 shot boltgun
America entered with mainly the first one. Second was used in a smaller capacity, and third was mostly for marksmen and snipers by then rather than standard infantry. America entered the war with semi-auto rifles, which it had since the 1930s. Germany didn't enter the war with those kinds of weapons, the infantry were stuck with the Kar98k as their battle rifle until they finally started fielding the Gewehr 43 halfway in and too late to be of real use anymore. The Sturmgewehr was admittedly very impressive, but it came far, far too late due to administrative bullshit.
For the SMGs:
>Thompson, 20 round .45, admitted piece of shit
>M3, 30 round .45, breddy good
>M1 Carbine, .30 cal, good shit despite what Korean war vets say
Overall I'd say America was ok here anyways, while the MP40 was good, America could still counter it. These are also close quarters weapons anyway, except the carbine which was pretty multi-use and was a better SMG-role weapon than the actual SMGs, which is why I put it here
MGs:
>BAR, 20 rounder
>M1919, belt-fed
You let off a short burst for suppressive fire.
so this is the power of german humor
Hey, German humor is no laughing matter

The MG 3 is nice gun
But they lost.
And the French won, that doesn't mean their tank design was actually good.
The BAR is a bad gun.

OOW made WWI repros licensed by Colt too, but those were a limited release and are $8k+
>I'm salty af I can't get a modernized version of this.
That's why the HCAR exists.
It was actually good for the war it was made for (ww1) though
I would disagree somewhat; a bi-pod would have made it much more useful in the auto rifle aspect.
It had a bipod, shit wanker
Give it a pistol grip, give it a decent bipod, don't bother with the rate of fire modifier or whatever you call it just keep the original fire selector, give it a quick detach barrel if you're feeling fancy. So basically what everyone else did with their BARs except the US.
Not in WW1. The A2 bipod sucks dick regardless.
Bipod was regularly removed by soldiers in the field during WW2.
It was a massive piece of shit
they just went the route of the M14 instead, which is a functionally better rifle in every way
but tech moved so fast because of the Alien landings in the 1940s and their technology sharing on polymers and fission that we abandoned wooden guns for plastic ones
Bipods were only added in 1938 when they updated to the A2 platform. Get your historical information from somewhere else than Call of Duty.
BAR's biggest issue were it's 10 round magazine
>biggest issue were it's 10 round magazine
Based and accurate, amazing rifle, low capacity.
>tfw the the US military used the worse versions BAR
Flip it upside down and you have the true based BAR variant.
>Flip it upside down
gotcha senpai
Good thing it used a 20 rnd magazine!
Frick me, that does make a lot more sense doesn't it.
I have no idea how I fricked that up.
Makes the bren look a lot less appealing now.
It was definitely made like some guy with no history of arms development cobbled it together like a hack in a shack in the middle of nowhere.
doesnt matter, it was COOL
Just felt too shallow of an ammo pool during the Korean war though, great gun though
It's as heavy as it needs to be to make you strong
The FM 24/29 was the best BAR.
most non german LMGs were a little mediocre at the time and in the American's case it really wasn't helped by them using .30-06 since a BAR is already a pain to shoot as heavy as it is even
Unwieldy, heavy, outdated. But we had a lot of them already, and they managed to kill a lot of Germans. Sure, they could have, in some alternate time line, used a different weapon to fill its roll. But, they did what they had to. So, eh, who cares.
My old coworker who was in the Atomic Army structure period b***hes about this gun relentlessly
A lightweight BAR in a spitzer .351SL would have been the hottest rig around in 1920
>To heavy
Naw, just needs a bit of timmin'.
In retrospect my fat wiener is too heavy.
how functionally similar are modern BARs to the original guns? I wish the new ones looked a little sexier like the old gals do
>BAR
>is not automatic
lolno
New BARs are clown shit, no one buys them so I don't understand how they even exist at this point. Literally NO ONE buys them.
Automatic as in auto loading. You think the Browning Auto 5 is select fire?
It should be
How much do they cost?
they're like $1700 leaf dollars so whatever that works out to in burgerbucks, not very expensive but definitely not worth the price either
better off spending that money on a Beretta 1301 and just slap rifled slugs in it
I could just buy an AR-10 and have a lighter rifle.
You could easily find 500 better rifles than the BAR for less money, it's a relic and only has weird nostalgic value like the crude and ineffective 1911 that some people still enjoy.
I happen to love my (commander length) 1911 and it still seems more practical than a BAR.
I doubt the German soldiers that Medal of Honor awardee Sgt Alvin York shot with his M1911 found it very ineffective..
Literally nothing besides the name and caliber.
Was designed by JMB's Grandson in the 1960's.
That's a safari rifle.
the gun that they sell now called "browning bar" has nothing to do with the old one. ohio ordnance makes a modernized clone called the hcar but it's super expensive.
Yup the HCAR is probably the closest to a "Modern BAR" you can find nowadays, but yeah as this anon points out, they're piss'n expensive.

Basically starts at 5 Grand and goes up from there
read some annecdote about the bar being used to shoot longer single distance from hills. found that interesting. im assuming they used the bipod.
What if instead of Garands we gave every soldier in WW2 a BAR and a 1911? How much faster would we have beaten the Nazis?
Thats why we have riflemen. We cant all be beefcake gunners.
>your dwelling has a light coating of dusty grease and filth
You probably smell like onions and chicken fat.
The allies were not The Good Guys™
>I just couldn't be fired from the shoulder in a pinch
That's why we had the BAR, I guess.
Fires from an open bolt doesn't it? Seems a little silly for a war where people literally drowned in mud.
Alot of common modern machine guns fire from open bolt
he has never shot a machine gun of any type
>a war where people literally drowned in mud
Passchendaele was WW1, anon.
ops bar is the ww1 variant you mong
Might of been outgunned in the ETO but the japs sure hated this thing
Apparently Clyde Barrow loved his and had a 40 round mag custom made for it.
I thought 40 rounders were standard?
>it was too heavy
Just like your mom. But unlike your mom, I'd be seen in public with a BAR
Lift more.
yeah but now we have to carry 50lbs of other bullshit like side plates and batteries and way more water than a canteen so as always op is a homosexual
that is the world war 1 variant. Also don't forget the sights were kinda shit for an MG (too small and fine, like target sights). And the mags were shitty and prone to jamming
It's actually a little lighter than the 240B in some variants
Yes, but the 240 is belt fed with 200 round cans instead of 20 round box mags.
The extra weight is worth the added capacity.
All weapons are a list of compromises and the 240 adds a little weight for better suppression
>20 rounds
I can't judge it since I have never held it. I don't think you can ever judge a gun unless you have finger-fricked it at least. I never thought the M1 carbine was anything to be excited about until I held one. It's so light and easy to handle. I think it's a great gun and now I want one. I can't take your word for it. I'd have to hold one to know.
A 15 pound "automatic rifle"(read as "shitty LMG") with 20 round mags. Who could turn such a masterpiece down?
Lewis Gun
>weight: 28 pounds
>capacity: 47 rounds, mag fed
Chauchat
>weight: 20 pounds
>capacity: 20 rounds, mag fed (handy strip cut out in the middle to insert mud and jam your gun on demand)
Hotchkiss M1909
>weight: 26.5 pounds
>capacity: 30 round feed strip (glorified stripper clip) or belt fed (of course you don't get a pouch for that)
Huot Automatic Rifle as a bonus
>weight: 19 pounds loaded
>capacity: 25 rounds, mag fed
>number built: 5
The only actual LMG from the period that I think manages to edge out the BAR is the Madsen MG, and only barely on the metric of weight-to-capacity
>weight: 20 pounds
>capacity: 25, 30, or 40 round magazines
Either way, the BAR manages to be the one of lightest of the LMGs from the Great War, and I'd rather carry it over its contemporaries if I have to pick one of them.
Browning made his shit compact as he could. If he couldn't get it below 15 pounds, then you know that nobody else alive in that time could have either.
>sort that would tell men to walk slowly towards an MG nest
Oh yeah, and the pic I forgot, before this part gets questioned.
I dont even lift anymore.
same
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.
