I want to hang a punching bag from here, but it looks weak and I don't know if it'll take the load. I want to strengthen it by putting corner braces in and then installing the mount in the pic underneath.
How would I best go about installing the corner braces?
It's fine, just install it on the solid board
You reckon that will support ~100kg? It creaks when I hang from it
Yeah it's fine. That's just settling. I have my hoist on a 2x6 and I use it to lift my ATV
Awesome, thanks mate. Onto it right now, I can't wait to have this thing up

op is lying in a heap on his basement floor, bones shattered underneath a pile of rubble that used to be his ceiling. 100kg punching bag resting squarely on his left testicle. his phone just out of reach.
>It's fine
It's not fine.
I had that exact bracket hanging from a joist in my basement, the weight of the bag hanging there caused the joist to crack in half along it's length. The bag didn't even get used.
Joists are meant to have a load placed on top that can be supported by all of it's wood fibers. A load pulling from below will separate the wood fibers with time.
make sure you go to the left or the right of that strap. The other joist is under tension.
Better to put a plank across multiple joists and have the bag on the plank to distribute weight across the structure
Post pics when you're done OP
What about throwing a piece of rope over those boards and attaching the bag to the ends of said rope?
you're going to want a lot of strengthening, and to distribute the load as much as possible.
This is how I did mine, but I still don't know if I trust it.
