I bought my first Mini 14 and will pick it up in a few days (WA waiting period), it's the Ranch model in the pick and although it's obviously not deadly due to lacking a flash hider, I am excited to be joining the A-team.
For any anons who own/have owned one, with it's 1 in 9 twist barrel, have you found any loads particularly well or poorly? I like to buy cheap and stack deep, so I favor M193, but if that's a bad call in your experience, I'd like to hear what's worked for you.
I am only shooting with iron sights for now (Tech Sights), and other than that the only other alteration will be a Hogue overmolded stock to replace the factory stock.
Thanks anons
>joining the A-Team
>what is Samson
Leaf gay here, I thought the Mini-14 fell under your new assault weapon ban for having a shrouded barrel
I've seen several places selling them, they all said they got the go ahead to sell them, but just for the Ranch models. Not gonna question it while they can still be bought.
No, for sure, they're great rifles. Get em before the gun grabber homosexuals notice them
Before what again? I don't think you're American..
I'm not American, I'm a leaf. It's not a stretch to think that the homos that banned the SKS in WA might notice the Mini-14 and add it to the list.
>not a wood stock
I prefer something with more grip, hence the Hogue stock, but I of course can't deny the appeal of the classic wood stock. I tried one of those, but just too slick for my sweaty-ass palms, oh well.
You aren't the only one anon. I just bought a used mini 14 for $700 since "Assault Weapons" are banned in Illinois. It is supposedly made in 1983 and the wooden stock is black I believe. The site claims it is chambered for 223 Remington but I have to check for myself once it gets to my FFL
Where the frick do you find them under 900$ ?
I didn’t, paid $999 + tax for mine. I figured it was best to get one while I still could, rather than sweat the price, being that as long as I’m in WA it’s the only option left (for now).
The mini14 with the side folding stock is one of the coolest looking guys 2bh, if i ever find a good deal on one I'll grab it
Looking guns*
Also this
yeah
Mine.
M Carbo trigger spring kit is nice. Tech Sights for the rest. I want to get an Avenger front sight but I haven't.
Side folding stock ready to go.
*Rear
And if you get an Ultimate or Hannibal rail be mindful because it get extremely hot. The whole thing turns into a fricking heat sink.
you managed to fit a lot of cringe tryhard in that pic
Balance.
Cringe "cringe" poster. This is a cool thread for cool dudes.

I have a 15 gallon keg of big wave in my fridge that I haven't tapped yet
Nice. I like the variety packs. I always end up enjoying them more than I think I will. Stay Salty cozy from Seattle Aquarium.
just wait half an hour between magazines and you'll be fine at hitting anything
Tell that to them fbi boys in Miami.
Their little pea shooters stood no chance.
Ask me how I know you're just parroting memes and not knowing about how the pencil barrels were only a thing in the earlier production models.
>For any anons who own/have owned one, with it's 1 in 9 twist barrel
mine shot 55 and 62 grain fine, I never put anything super heavy in it. enjoy, they are nice guns.
Thanks anon, I prefer the M193 anyways so that’s good to hear. I had read that anything over 68 was going to be iffy at that twist rate.
Congrats on the 5.56 M1 Carbine
Not really my cup of tea but congrats. Buy good mags and keep it lubed but not too wet. Minis are over gassed as frick in my experience. Also not accurate enough for anything more than a dot or low power prism. I hope you enjoy it though, they are still fun to frick just a bit dated in 2024
anyone here that has a Mini-14; are the .300 BLK and 5.56 mags interchangeable? Ruger says they are not, but some anecdotal evidence indicates they might be.
I got a Mini-14 in .300 recently and am trying to find 30 round .300 mags for it, but the only 30 rounders I can find online are for 5.56/.223.
>Mini-14 in .300
30 caliber is the only correct choice for descendants of the M1
>Cucking yourself on ammo prices and ballistic performance on a rifle people only buy if they're in a cucked state to shoot .223/5.56
Shiggy diggy
>ammo prices
.300 Blackout is only marginally more expensive than .223 after all the Israeli happenings
>ballistic performance
I'm blasting at Jamal if he tries to break into my front door, not sniping crackheads across the block.
>Ballistic performance
>He thinks I mean accuracy
ngmi
ballistics performance is virtually identical between .223 and .300 blackout at close ranges
why are you being so autistic about this
Are you moronic? .300 blackout and 5.56 have way different approaches to causing damage. There's no good reason to use .300 blackout over 5.56 unless you're using a really short barrel and a suppressor. Why would you ever choose .300 blackout over 5.56 in a mini-14 of all things?
it's difficult to find direct barrel length comparisons but this should be good enough to get the point across. Both are from Fiocci brand, per the ammunitiontogo website. If you can find a better source, by all means please share it.
.300 Blackout from 16 inch barrel:
>150 gr bullet delivers 1266 ft-lb muzzle energy at 1950 FPS
.223 Rem from 24 inch barrel:
>55 gr bullet delivering 1282 ft-lb muzzle energy at 3240 FPS
Yes, one is a slower and heavier bullet, the other is a faster and lighter one, but the energy delivery at close ranges is virtually identical, even putting aside the differences in barrel length here. so what is it exactly then, in your estimation, that makes the .300 blackout inferior for such purposes?
>30 caliber is the only correct choice for descendants of the M1
Yeah

Mini-30 would've been my second choice, but I wanted to put the whole thing on an ATI stock and all it came down to is I didn't want to have to frick with the magwell to get it to fit
(please ignore the shitty optic and useless rail, it's a work in progress)
I have a Hannibal rail and was looking into one of those.
Do I need to use the top handguard to lock the stock into place? That would be a dealbreaker for me tbh.
other way around it seems; you need the stock to lock the top handguard into place as it screws directly into the stock, and I don't think drop-in top handguard pieces will work with it as I tried putting the Ruger factory one back on and could not get it to hold firmly on the ATI body.
if you really wanted to, I bet you could drill+thread the appropriate screw hole into your hannibal rail.
Wait, WA state still allows semi-auto rifle purchases? Does this mean I can get an AR upper?
you have to have a permit now, whatever that means
also 10 round limit on mags
I have seen Aero Precision upper receiver parts in stores, I don’t know about complete uppers but I think at the least, you could probably build an upper. I haven’t seen lowers, as you would expect. The only semi-auto center fire rifles I’ve seen for sale are the Mini 14 Ranch, and if you count it, the Ruger PC Carbine without a threaded muzzle.
>I overpaid for some junk
GG anon
If buying an AR was still an option, yeah I would agree with you. But until I get out to a free state (which I’m working on), the rifle I have is better than the AR I don’t. The way things are likely going this year, I’ll take what I’m able to get now and not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
The safety class was really nothing. Did it online. I oppose the whole concept of taking a class to exercise your rights on principle, but as a practical matter it was not a big deal.
you were able to get a mini in washington? dudes at my local shop wont order any because theyre scared
The place I bought from said their lawyers asked the WA State Police to clarify what was/wasn’t ok for them to sell, and I got one.
Depends on the exact configuration, no threaded barrel, pistol grip, is fine. The gay shit in the law is “barrel shroud” which can apply to most if not all semiautomatic rifles, but the mini 14 has its integrated into the stock. Any way, if you get prosecuted for it there are several legal groups waiting to defend you. Or just go Lexington/concord mode.
Love my mini, currently have it set up with tech sights, choate ventilated handguard and a spectre 2 point sling with spare mag carrier. I tried the ultimak/red dot combo, but like the other anon said, it got hotter than hell
I checked rugers accessories site a while back and they were selling 30 round mini-14 mags, might be a good buy if you dont have to deal with mag restrictions
When I get to a free state, I’ll load up on the 20-rounders, I prefer the way they balance, with the traditional stock/grip
Wylde built tactical has factory 20 round mags blocked off to 10. Super easy to convert back to normal, should you ever move somewhere with less restrictive laws or get a freedom week scenario
I've heard that some companies might be shipping limited mags whose epoxy and rivets might be easily removable so one could, if one intended, convert them to full original capacity. Mind you this might be illegal in some jurisdictions, and I would never advocate that anyone do such a thing, I'm just passing on what I heard. About certain companies. Online.
>(WA waiting period)
but im mad now!
My dad had one. It never jammed or failed to fire. Problem was that it was just an expensive noise maker.
After 3 consecutive shots it would shot shotgun like patterns until the barrel cooled
Was this an older model, or one of the post-2007 models? The newer ones are supposed to have had a bunch of changes like a new barrel profile that improve the accuracy over the older models.
Mini’s with the GB profile barrel are god tier. If you can find one get it.
