In WW2 ground based .50s were shooting down planes flying at 500mph+. It was one of the reasons for having .50s on Shermans that could elevate that high.

I don’t think anyone disputes that, there’s plenty of footage of Russian shit getting fricked. It’s just doubtful that someone shot down a missile with a rifle. Reminds me of when people claimed that some guy with a shotgun downed a Russian jet or something.

              >Reminds me of when people claimed that some guy with a shotgun downed a Russian jet or something.
I like how every certified Russian shill has to mention that. The old dude shot with his rifle at Russoid plane exactly when Ukrainian AA eternally flighted that flying tincan, he was awarded medal for his bravery not for shooting down a plane. I also love how there's fricking video evidence of shot down by machineguns but seething "IT DIDN'T HAPPEN, IT WAS ACTUALLY STEALTH MANPAD, THEY HID THE EVIDENCE"

No shit he didn’t shoot it down, I’m saying that tons of news articles and people on /k/ initially claimed that he did, when it should have been obvious that he didn’t.
                >russian shill

First act of Russian shill: always mention Ghost of Kyiv, Snake Island or this old dude as proof that whatever is being discussed as false, literally seen that done several hundred times on /k/ and /misc/, actually every time news about downed(including il-22m and a-50) netrooolers come out screaming how it's false because media claimed that this dude shot down Russian aircraft.
Second: you're literally watching video of M2 browning intercept flying object and start screaming how it didn't happen, the most common Russian shill tactic
So if you act like a duck, talk like a duck and walk like a duck, the frick are you beside a duck?

It happened once though, during the summer.
Something like 30-40 patriot launches one after another during one of the attacks, and no reports of kinzhal intercepts the next day, a lot of shaheds and some Kh-s if I recall correctly.
And I'm certain it was patriot, it was the same dense earth-shaking roar and large bright orange lights rapidly going up and to the side in the sky before disappearing, as with the first intercept of kinzhal in may, which I've seen with my own eyes(yeah im going to a balcony of my apartment instead of a shelter during attacks).
Also after all that the air stank somewhat of a burning plastic, but somehow worse.

They're already coping by having people go
        >Well he's gone missing/AWOL before, so he's totally fine and Russia went OTT to disprove Streklov was dead
The issue, being obviously, that Streklov Weekend At Bernie'd was immediately forgotten and he hasn't been seen since. This is the ultimate thing about all the guys claimed to be whacked. We've not seen them since outside of Russia going 'he is totally alive, here is phonecall of him'. Nothing else. Months past and we never see them again. It's ignored by both sides and memory holed. But their point of Kremlin going OTT to say Streklov wasn't dead lands credence to the theory Gerisamov isn't... Or there would have been more attempts to disprove it like every other high ranking thing. Now, of course, this doesn't mean he is uninjured or not in a coma... Hell it doesn't even mean he is not dead. Russia might simply be avoid mentioning he is dead/injured because they don't want to reinforce the idea that Ukraine is successfully hitting their high command AND to make it less likely Ukraine will try to whack them again. After all, they're already dead, right?

Do we know it was an X-101?
You’d also have to factor in the cost of gun barrels, .50 bmg returning to the ground and ruining something, etc
You also want to compare the price to the reduction in damage dealt by the X-101 as opposed to its price. Russia loses the X-101 either way, the “gain” is from destroying ukrainian targets

      This is called flak.

Fun fact, soviets had a shit-ton of high-caliber, radar-directed flak cannons errywhere. But then Burgers started flying over their frozen swamp with impunity with superior high-altitude planes so the soviets put all research points into missiles.

      Anonymous

To give you an actual answer, no, because buckshot isn't aerodynamic enough. It loses energy way too fast when attempting to fire it at distant targets, and scaling up the gun doesn't help the problem much.
See: Tanks that have a canister shell munition. Their effective range typically tops out at 750 meters on a good day. That's nowhere near enough to be effective AAA.

To solve the problem you need an aerodynamic spinning projectile, and at that point you have a rifle, and if you're building a rifle to shoot at flying shit you may as well make it a fused shell.

Anything's possible in the fantastical land of imagination called Ukraine. If you can't prove it didn't happen, it happened. What are you, an anti-Semite?

I see a drone asploding and a conscript shooting at it, but nothing to link the two things. Just like a chimney and a gas chamber.

    It's obviously theoretically possible.
Extremely unlikely, though, because human reaction speed and precision cannot match a machine's.
This is just really stupid and lucky CIWS.

if you have infinite chances everything is possible
    so possible? - yes
does it mean now half of missiles will be shot this way? - no
possibly more missiles were lost in collisions with birds...

As this war goes on the more I 100% believe that story more and more.
You know 100% that those pilots were barely flying treetops that early in the war over a ton of residential area's, and those things are frickhuge and can't take bullets for shit.

Ukraine has the good sense to realize that truth is the best way to combat zigger lies, and therefore make it a priority to substantiate their claims.

Do missiles phase out of existence now? They're still physical objects, and the things typically designed to shoot them down are also fast moving.

Assuming it happened, then it'd be a classic example of the "golden BB". If you fire rifle-caliber bullets at low-flying aircraft, some of them will hit. If you fire enough bullets at enough aircraft, eventually one of them will hit something important; i.e. you are not immune to groundfire.

          >They downed something in that video
There's at least 3 videos ITT of a munition flying over ukraine being downed by men with AKs and/or M2s

          >What was it, though.

Some are clearly Shanseeds being illuminated by searchlights, but if you want to go full BUT WHAT WAS IT clown-mode, we can play that game and say it is possible an Iskander was downed by an AK.

Ukraine was modernising them prior to 2022, sadly I imagine they didn't get many of the new versions finished.

cruise missiles travel at less than 600 mph and often low to the ground, so it doesn't seem outrageous to me that someone shoots it down with a machine gun
