I am highly disappointed that he didn't release the files but I can understand his reasoning.
Is there any way it could be recreated. I’m not a machining person but I would put multiple 10’s of grands into getting one of these made. I’m simply not smart enough to learn how to do everything he did. But I would do what I can to build it.
>I’m simply not smart enough to learn
It's more about time investment than smarts.
Say, you're trying to cast a part that is angled on the sides, like a truncated pyramid. If you make the mold with the pyramid "base down" and pour metal into the mold, your piece is stuck inside the mold (unless you're doing sand casting and can just destroy and remake the mold on every cast). Now, if you're a smart person, you'll figure out that you need to have the "base up" for the piece to pop out before you make the mold.
If you're not smart, but you are willing to learn, you'll watch a tutorial on casting that will bring up draft angles and how to orient and design pieces so they'll pop out of molds easily.
So dedicating time to research makes up for lack of smarts. If you just insist on not learning you're gonna do every mistake in the book, and even a smart person will fall for rookie mistakes.
>So dedicating time to research makes up for lack of smarts
Dedicating time to research is usually what smart people do, because it saves a shit ton of trial and error and all the brainstrain that comes with working towards a solution that someone else already made.
I’m the (you) you relied too who’s a tard.
I have zero fricking idea what you’re saying in this post, but I do want to learn. And if I managed to make this shit I would totally accidentally release the source files.
I started watching the channels the guy talked about who made the BR, but if you or anyone has more to offer I will happily take it. If he won’t make the files public I can atleast try making new ones. I’ll probably fail but hey better than nothing.
I have access to a lathe, any hand tool I’d need, any software I can get, and lots and lots of time. If I need anything I’m happy to put money towards it to make it happen.
>I’m simply not smart enough
you're certainly young because this mindset is little more than an excuse that should be beasted out of you. you just don't want to do it enough is the real reason and you being too lazy to meticulously plan and research is why you won't do it, "i'm not smart enough" is little more than a cop-out because people who aren't actually smart enough never make that excuse

on one hand it's heartening to see so many replies in good faith (as is expected and good of a hobbyist board)
on the other hand it's a reminder that good moderating and judicious use of post reporting are essential to keeping a blue board decent
with the level of activity on this board it would take probably no more than three average PrepHole or PrepHole shitposters to make the entire catalog genuinely unreadable if lurker-reporters and jannies/mods ever took a day off, and those who only use boards like this should pop into more infamous boards every month or two just to remind yourselves how bad things can and could get if users ever get too complacent

5.56 used to gun down commie rebels into the 26th century
Pretty sure this dude posted a teaser on here about a year ago. It was a pic of the front end of the BR55 in the white, no finish. Could be a separate dude but seems likely.
He also said he’s working on a version of the Halo 3 or CE sniper, and a real version of the shotgun that will make that one Ian’s shilling look like shit.
I hereby summon this Black person to post pics of his .50 BMG.
Couldn't agree more, this shit is fricking gay yo
I like that its an aluminum frame. He could have tried a polymer system but I think the aluminum look is quite handsome and gives it a solid looking build.
The attention to detail with respect to the control surfaces are especially nice. I think one of my issues that amateur gunsmiths often have is making something that doesn't really look comfortable to hold.
Ultimately, if you acted like Halo never existed, this would still appear to be a cool gun.
This is a pretty cool way of doing the round counter. It also means you don't have to do anything like reset the counter or whatever like some systems do, because it knows exactly where the follower is at all times as well as whether a magazine is inserted at all.
>Some random gunsmith makes a better round counter in his garage then gays at shotshow have been showing off for years
i wonder if we'll see anyone try to ape it. hope so. of all of the moronic shit you could do with electronics on guns this is probably one of the most useful because it offers a feature that is nice, but nonessential to the operation of the gun which is the fatal flaw of all of the other shit like smartguns.
That's just how it is. The gays at shotshow are in the business to make money. They aren't passionate about it and couldn't give less of a shit if the product worked as long as they got paid. Random autists with time and intelligence who are passionate will spend those sleepless nights and weekends making their dreams real.
The best businesses are founded on a savvy businessman (Jobs) finding an autist (Wozniak) whose skill they can wrangle into a profitable product.
If you're going to call them gays Anon, you should learn grammar first. Then is first this then that. You should have used than which is used for comparisons.
I bet you were bullied in school, and rightfully so
Wild that you can have fans so dedicated to a setting that there's now multiple real life firearms on top of replica vehicles and a ton of dedicated cosplayers fabricating their own armour and power armour, but it's too damn hard to find a production house to give enough of a shit to make a decent show.
>but it's too damn hard to find a production house to give enough of a shit to make a decent show.
This is because the gap between the fans and modern Hollywood writers is as large as that between the Earth and the moon.
Pedowood isn’t interested in making good accurate shows lmao they’re looking to peddle whatever garbage is in vogue

>5.56
7.62 would beat the gun to death without some sort of very advanced and small buffer system. The butt of the rifle just doesn't have the space needed for 7.62 to work out. You'd have to extend it by several inches to get 7.62 to work properly.
>without some sort of very advanced and small buffer system
you mean like the ones he painstakingly got?
Does the BR55 have any benefits over a real world gun? In practice it's just a thin FS2000. I'd like to see him design a gun "inspired" by the BR55, give it a unique name so he can patent it, and chamber it in 556 and 7.62.
I think if you "fix" it so that it can fire 7.62, you'll effectively remake the FS2000. For purely aestetic reasons, I dislike the look of the BOAT GUN.
Effective range of 1 km and 9.5x40 is stronger than 7.62x51
>9.5x40
You mean the Halo fantasy round? My interest is in taking fantasy ideas and then adapting them to the real world. 556 and 762 are NATO standards, and that's what we have. So if you take something inspired by the BR55 and adapt it to NATO rounds, you'll probably end up with something that looks like a sleaker less ugly FS2000 and that's fine by me.
you mean complete fantasy
thanks moron
>does this fictional weapon have any advantages?

NTA but how advanced is it given they're using ammo from today with minimal, if any, changes?
>Effective range of 1 km and 9.5x40 is stronger than 7.62x51
This is vidya land. The power of the bullet matters not by its own properties but by the numbers entered in code for the weapon. Pic firing 7.62 is far superior to another automatic rifle firing the same ammo.
The guy decided to make a functional replica of a fantasy gun. Of course it doesn't do anything better Anon. That's no the point. Its like dressing up a delorean to look like the time machine from back to the future. Its cool.
how about this: a reverse-mounted buffer tube, with a rocker arm. Recoil along the barrel axis (red) is converted into motion of the rocker arm. The lower end of the arm is connected to the reverse buffer tube. Buffer can now be extra long without affecting OAL or LOP.
Might be better use some sort of counterweight system like those AKs
I NEEEEEEEED IT
Suck my BWC, b***h Black person. This is fun. This is based. This is a man with passion who designed and built a custom firearm. This is to be celebrated. Again, suck my BWC b***h Black person.

It’s as close to a real BR55 as can be made, considering that the actual design is physically impossible.
>b-b-but he didn’t invent a new cartridge for it that also would have further reduced the inaccurate ammunition capacity!!!
It’s cool, stop being autistic. It’s by far the best replica of a gun from a video game that isn’t based off an existing platform. Making a custom barrel and/or gas system would have been completely pointless.
Waiting for some mad c**t to make a proper collapsing M7 Lancer from scratch only for someone to whine they didn't also make element zero real and make it actually use the operating principle of using a mass effect field to fudge the laws of physics.
>this is just as bad as those cosplay gays dressing up guns.
The sad part is this is likely as close as we're going to get for IRL versions of fictional or cancelled guns. Most aren't like Star Wars dressing up WWII guns or M41 Pulse Rifles made from a Thompson and other stuff. Internal workings and more aren't relevant at all. Getting a shell and placing an existing system inside is a way to guarantee it'd work.
all this did was made me despressed because it reminded me of the sad state of halo nowdays....
if you werent there for it you missed out 1-reach was something special
Nothing will match the experience of the Halo 2 launch. A million concurrent players. The early days of Xbox Live. Skill based matchmaking that was actually function because of the large player base. Having my friends over for all night split screen.
My Black person. Took the words right out of my ass. I miss the H2 days so much.

True, though I was only there for the last year before 343 destroyed it
amen. My mom drove me to the midnight release of Halo 2 on a school night and I was up till like 5 that night playing it. I got up to the first Arbiter mission before I went to bed and was the first one to tell everyone at the lunch table in middle school

It sounds so shit but it was so fricking good. At least 80-90% of people had mics for better or worse. From what I hear, you don't get that in a lot of PC game lobbies these days. Oh and no one gave a frick, pretty much everything went. No AI listening to voice chat to ban you or anything like that. It was rare for anyone to get a ban for voice chat, and when it was, it was MAYBE a week temp ban lol. Unless you put something in your motto or catchphrase in xbox Live and got reported for it, then you got a nice "GUIDELINES" as a replacement for your motto/bio or whatever it'd say after a couple times.
t. also squeaker in Halo 3
>It was rare for anyone to get a ban for voice chat
I was too nice of a kid so I never really learned the bantz until I got on PC, so I really missed the glory days of xbox live comms with those absolutely atrocious headsets.
>t. was the guy with the dog barking
Nah I was too nice in chat to get a ban either. I think I knew someone who may have gotten a temp ban but that's it. Though they also had bio and motto bans lol. I just remember playing hours and hours and hours of xbox live almost every day so I got to witness all the bantz and shit talking between other people a lot. I was mostly quiet for a while. Every now and then I'd get caught laughing at two guys arguing because of noise activated mic instead of push to talk lol. I actually met some people on xbox around my age later and then from there on I'd be in party chat with them most of the day. Most of them I haven't heard from in years as I assume most of them also went away from xbox, but I found my password to one of my accounts recently because I had to migrate my Minecraft account (a real old one from beta) and noticed that my friend I met was still online. I'm lucky enough to be in contact with them, at the very least. The rest of them I have no clue. Wish they'd have given me some other way to contact them. I'm lucky the person I talked to the most still has the newest xbox or they'd all be gone with no contact.
>they'd all be gone with no contact.
the last time I logged onto the 360 S I have, I saw a handful of guys still on, with all the avatars doing the sleep animation. its like looking at a time capsule with all the 13+ year old cosmetics for gears of war or halo or CoD stuff. Funnily enough I dont think I ever retained any of those friends cross platforms, but have made plenty of irl friends to make up for it
I just miss how fricking wild it was. In my friends I had people from the East coast, down South, Alaska, you name it. I still have to reset my main account password. I THINK I know what email I used so it shouldn't be hard, I just need to do it.
And that was just active friends. I'm not even counting random dudes. And in public lobbies, everyone either just got along or talked shit and went on with their day. In a way it was almost like PrepHole but voice chat. You have people of all ages talking shit, trolling, doing their thing, etc. No one, or very few, would get offended and report anyone, lol. People didn't get kicked very often at all - if you even could in whatever game you were playing.
>It really was a great time. Nothing else comes close to it. Maybe TF2 in its heyday, up to around 2015.
You should have seen Wagoogee’s BF1942 servers back in the day.
You probably would have loved it.
Frick I’m old
I remember the kino of airlifting a riverboat with the quad 50 blasting fortunate son with a Huey in battlefield Vietnam.
>being THAT guy in MW2 with a noob tube, FAL, and One Man Army (yes, I was THAT guy)
God that was fun. People would get so pissed when you did that
>From what I hear, you don't get that in a lot of PC game lobbies these days.
And it's amazing. I don't have to hear pablos mom vacuuming, tyrone playing his mixtape, and I can enjoy and unwind after work.
People who glamorize xbox lobbies from the MW2 days are unironically the same as Black folk who think they're cool for turning the gas station pump area into their own concert.
I mean that I hear a lot of people don't even HAVE a fricking mic these days. Or at least don't use it. I used to be in CS:GO competitive matchmaking games at times where some dickhead would decide he didn't want to use a mic. I've heard it hasn't gotten much better, rather the opposite. Also
>not just muting moron listening to shitty rap and fan guy
95% of the few that still talk in the ones I play are those kinds of morons

I agree. There were complaints all over like needing to pay for Xbox LIVE, about RRoDs, etc. It was hectic. At times I'd just turn that shit off just so I can have a normal game.
>guy gets sniped for being a moron and running around by himself in an open area
>WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
Was always my favorite.
>some guy listening to shitty rap just loud enough that his mic won't shut the frick up the whole game

I rather have him than dead silence now a days
I remember all the good and bad about that. The annoying underaged kids, the complete noobs, the sometimes cool guys, the Machinima which were the saving grace, the complaints about map packs and more.
It was for better and worse. I think of it as 2000s /b/ except 90% of the playerbase are children.

>you werent there for it you missed out 1-3 was something special
It was a train wreck especially near the end. Then they started dicking around like the crackhead Bungie always were.
>train wreck
Simple shooter, few bugs, generic save humanity against the alien threat (maybe wasn't generic back then) plot line. Everyone hyped for it. What about it was a train wreck?
NTA but but there were complaints the WHOLE time. From weapon balance, map design, plot holes, retcons, you name it. It didn't help that Bungie wanted a standalone RPS, then a standalone FPS, just for game 1 alone. And as the franchise went on, Bungie just halfassed more and more as they were sick of the franchise until they crashed and burned it after 3, leaving the schmucks who thought it was salvageable to fail to zombify its corpse.
>First four games extremely popular and well received
>Suddenly taken over by someone else, turned into call of duty and it dies
I think there is more to it then Bungie allegedly half assing it and being sick of the franchise. Also if I recall correctly Halo 2 had to be rebuilt from the ground up at one point.
By
>four
I'd say 3 because Ensemble Studios made Wars.
2 was a very troubled production to say the least. There wasn't meant to be a 3 initially but so much was leftover for 2. Of course, them becoming Call of Duty was because that was the new and popular thing. They saw what was popular, much like extraction shooters now I can't blame them for wanting success but I can blame them for abandoning their old styles.
>They saw what was popular
And instead of maintaining their style which brought them success in the first place they changed it to a bastardized version of something else to try to capture both audiences and it ends up alienating both. Classic case of what not to do at a stoplight. At least the guns are cool still.
It happens. The FPS genre even then had loads of people criticizing it as repetitive. Call of Duty games were coming out year after year. If they stuck to their own more, they'd have more to stand out.
Halo 2 had to be rebuilt a year before release due to engine issues, that’s why it honestly looks so bad
>And as the franchise went on, Bungie just halfassed more and more as they were sick of the franchise until they crashed and burned it after 3
lmao what the actual frick are you talking about, did you ragequit a match in 2007 and stay seething the whole time? Bungie fought tooth and nail to get everything they wanted to into their games, but were hobbled by Microsoft's pushing for a nonsensical release date

A decent size subset of those are quite tech savvy to boot, and think nothing of using their surveillance tools for personal reasons, because a tool is a tool to them. Im telling you this because its easy to slip into a world of shit, even over a couple careless words, and I wouldn't want that for anyone.

Doesn’t LAW make a BCG with its own recoil springs? It wouldn’t be TiN but i did hear about reliability issues
>zero gunsmithing experience
Well yeah, gunsmiths are unironically ridiculously incompetent machinists almost across the board. If you meet someone who has a degree in "gunsmithing" or anything adjacent, instead of machine or mechanical engineering, they're moronic.
Gunsmithing is a lesser variety of machinist, and neither is a variety of engineering. Guns are simple enough many machinists have designed them because there isn't much to them and they're dirt cheap to prototype then change if you fricked up.
John Browning designed and made most of his classics before manual knee mills existed yet precision was not a problem. Check out early 1900s machine tools. You can even buy them for small money like old horizontal mills and large lathes (which sell for less than little lathes because homosexuals don't know how to move things).
>is a lesser variety of machinist
Yes, if you don't care about the design process (engineering) behind the whole thing and subscribe to the idea that a gunsmith is just a machinist (though it seems in the current year, gunsmiths aren't even that).
Gunsmiths are basically in three groups: wood carvers for Fudd guns, guys taking a dastardly file to some cast 1911 frame in a jig, or guys playing ARlegos.
and then of course there's Ivan

A Black person could figure out how to make it if it was really extinct (even though its not)
Rounds like 9.5x40 are not at all improbable nor would manufacturing them be in the realm of Black person voodoo magic or anything a beginner couldn't figure out with the abundance of information out there on the topic.
The round itself is already fleshed out enough on paper and all the basic tools you'd need to do it can be acquired with ease. So is it really "inventing a new cartridge"?

Don't bother replying to them anon, They're stupid Black folk who cant comprehend the idea that individuals can produce or invent ammuntion. To them it is only feasible that it comes from a brand, on a shelf, in a store and if they can't find it there it cannot be.
he didn't even need to make his own ammo, there were much better options than 5.56, which he himself acknowledged and listed
he didn't go with any of them since they weren't better options than 5.56
ammo being cheap and easy to find are not good reasons for your one of a kind thematic unicorn gun
Yes they are because actually shooting your fricking gun is the most important thing about having the fricking gun
In that case .22lr would have been the best possible option, and we both know that would be gay as frick
machining is all but almost dead in america. the few that are still dumb enough to limp the trade along for their low pay in the AI and automation age are going to find their dumbasses unemployed with zero marketable skills soon
so I m not surprised
off shoring drawings to china can get you pretty far, the chinese are really really good at production
>tripgay
if that flash hider was any longer it would draw-in light from outside sources.
I like the music, it reminds me of the old Gun-demo videos from the 2000's
>I like the music, it reminds me of the old Gun-demo videos from the 2000's
that's music from the games anon...
>I like the music, it reminds me of the old Gun-demo videos from the 2000's
I was about to say that you have to be 18 to post here, but the last good Halo came out 14 years ago
>I like the music, it reminds me of the old Gun-demo videos from the 2000's
Thats music from the games.
>I like the music, it reminds me of the old Gun-demo videos from the 2000's
b8?
hope he patented that ammo counter
No, see the experts here are saying it's all just a shell for an AR and nothing special, so what would he even patent?
>zero marketable skills
Yeah and learn2code is being replaced with AI now. Soon your doctor and lawyer will be an AI. Retail and service jobs are going to be automated. Everything except glowies and the tax man is going to get automated within the next 30 years. Muh marketable skills aren't going to be a thing for long, so don't worry about it.
>replying to tripgay
>Patent
Lel. I know /k/'s full of noguns poorgays but come on man.

That an entirely different mechanism than what OP's guy did
Counting based on follower position is a way smarter idea than counting based on bullets leaving the barrel.
Awesome
>I just watched this and I spent the entire video repeating the words "this is reddit, this is memes, this is reddit, this is memes..." under my breath.

Better production values then the Paramount slop.
>Better production values then the Paramount slop.
Seriously, though.
welp, that explains the roids and shitty tattoos

he should never have gotten on them. hes aged himself so much in just a year's time
I'm almost positive this guy posted progress on here
He did once
Your post is unironically the most reddit thing I've seen here this month, and it's the fricking 31st.
I'm looking forward to April fools this year and how much it will upset some of you newbies. Tomorrow is going to be fun.
Cool project
>apparently cost 60k
I don't believe that for a second.
lots of custom machining and casting will do that. bro probably prototyped like crazy
He mentioned in one of his comments burn out resin for casting. A bottle of decent resin cost $80-$100 and isn't going to give you a ton of prints since it's typically used for smaller items.
Even if he didn't have a single failed print or casting, I could see him using thousands of dollars in resin alone. If he had to iterate and do multiple castings of the same part even more. $60k seems cheap all things considered.
Tooling, dies, etc absolutely will run you huge sums of money. Shit is expensive. Some autist in florida who redesigned a spray bottle with a heavier bottom so it wouldn't tip over had to pony up like 30k for the prototypes.
As a DIY type autist who tries to save money, I believe it, though maybe with slight exaggeration or poorly explained cost breakdown. Depends if he includes his lathe/mill/CNC in that time or if he had to rent time from someone with those tools too as well as if he includes the """cost""" of his own time. I've recently spent about $50+ attempting to figure out how to copy (out of production) or DIY taxidermy forms since for some ungodly reason a form costs anywhere from $115-150 plus shipping with some animals having less than 5 poses which also means the size of your pelt/animal leaves you with one option. Now that I know I can get 2 part foam from Home Depot or Lowes for under $20, I can make them quickly and cheap. Each pack of foam lets me pour easily 2, maybe 3 raccoon sized forms assuming it's solid and I don't stuff the center with junk to stretch it further. To get to that point, I've probably spent nearer to the $100-150 area to learn that, not to mention time, (theoretical) pelt cost, and tool cost, AS WELL as learning everything there is to basic taxidermy and those tools (so up that to probably $300-500). I have other projects where I've surely spent far more. Whereas I'm a moron over here covered in paper, glue, and spray foam which are relatively cheap, he's deep in tooling, machines, software, metal costs, gun part costs (especially if he breaks parts or buys something that ends up leading to a dead end), etc. If he also started from scratch, say with little to no machines or tools, I could see where the costs are coming from. Decent PC for modeling, software, printers, mills or CNCs, casting setup, you name it.

lol I'll pass
it's a receiver set. neat, but how the frick did it cost him $60,000?
i seriously doubt the L85 kit cost that much to prototype.
What you posted is an off the shelf BRN 180 upper on a custom lower with 3D printed parts on top.
What he did was machine a custom upper and lower, machine small parts, cast metal parts. He's probably including the equipment to machine and cast parts into the 60k figure.
The L85 kit probably did cost similar to prototype considering what machining a lower costs, including the machine. If you already had the machine then it's a lower cost as it's just "machine time" but it's still a very high barrier cost to entry. I didn't ask the L85/BRN180 guys what sort of machine shop they had when they posted here.
Also considering he's a prototype engineer or something running his own business, you could take the amount of hours he worked and multiply it against his hourly wage he charges for his work, for 4 years of work it would be like 200,000+ in labor, theoretically if he could have been earning money doing his normal job during that time. Engineering time isn't cheap.
the majority of the receiver could have been made out of an extrusion and put through 1 machining pass for aesthetic details.
the lower could be made from billet and you could have bent that carry handle out of sheet metal.
the fact that he used so many manufacturing steps with such a numerous part count just goes to show how inefficiently it was designed.
not to mention he picked a version of the BR that's covered in greebles. the halo 3 version is way simpler and honestly better looking too.
he said himself that he's not an engineer and he doesn't design firearms in his normal job.
do not mount your optics to a bent piece of sheet metal that is only vaguely connected to your barrel
most bullpups have screwed on top rails. complete non-issue.
How does one even become a prototyper?
>have design
>produce it
???
>Produce it 50 more times until it works
God im so unreasonably jealous it looks amazing. I guess ill just have to cope with having this.
>>zero engineering experience
False he is a professional engineer.
Looks like shit, made of plastic.
>3D printed materials
Even fricking worse than molded plastic, holy shit what a waste of potential.
it's made of cast metal parts
bumb
holy shit that's what I call EPIC am I right, fellas?
>that's what I call EPIC am I right, fellas?
You are correct anon
