no tank is indestructable, what the hell do you excpect? A tank that gets hit by multiple anti tank weapons/artillery and doesnt kill its crew/sends the turret towards the next spacelink satellite is now bad?
you are one of those guys that reads datasheets only and compares vehicles like its a fricking quartet card game. The reality is that anti tank weapons were designed to take out tanks, wow it worked that doesnt mean that Leopard tanks are bad you dungus. you want to say that the F-22 is a bad aircraft because a stinger can shoot it down?

you should rate the leopard in the role it was designed for: fighting other tanks without being a heavy tank (because germany isnt still allowed to build heavy tanks)

This photo is shit because leos aslo have ammo in the hull next to the driver

current leo versions use another propellant in its ammo that doesnt cook off, in older versions the lower ammo storage has a sealing that has some reactive stuff between extra layers that prevents cook offs due to removal of oxygen or something like that.

          [...]

Tank doesnt get used in a fast paced maneuver, doesnt get infantry support, gets hit by anti tank weapon.....DURR THE TANK IS BAD

wtf is wrong you? are you some /btards that come here when you are done posting cuck pics on /b?

That hole is exactly above the gun attachments to the turret. I don't know the exact term in English. If anything, probably the loader had a worse time, as the gunner is deep below the turret ring. From there, the gunner is pretty much shielded by the gun on its thickest part.

Heavy artillery shell landing right on top. Anything short of a western MBT would be a torn-apart wreck after that.

        Anonymous

If it were directly hit by a heavy, meaning 155mm. minimum, artillery shell, it would have been completely assfricked like every other tank.
I spent a good few evenings sperging out about direct fire artillery and the effects of artillery on MBTs in general.

Taking a 155mm. shell to the turret cheek will bend the barrel, turret ring, lift the turret out of the hull, frick all optronics and potentially kill and probably maim the crew.

Was cool. Ride in patched up transall was.. interesting. We were the last germoids there so we had the order to use up all 120 mm ammo, which we happily obliged to do. Coast behind the targets was nice scenery but I think some landmarks have since then been destroyed by nature. Did a weekend trip to London in british bus (no room for knees in these). Very nice.

British food was questionable, they had a toast machine there, conveyer belt thing, which kinda turned their white stuff into toasted bread you could put into the leg pocket and eat later in the tank w/o it turning into crumbs. But it was mostly german palate oriented. We also got custom-free vouchers to bring back some alcohol.

Some other group from our unit got into a fight with the locals boys in a pub, something about the chicks trying to get knocked up by germs for child support, which didn't sit well with the locals. I had the "pleasure" to be in the room when the battalion commander chewed them out. Akward.

All in all it was nice state sponsored trip. Being conscripted into a tank unit was swell (I explicitly stated that I wanted to be tanks or artillery). Had some fun, earned money and could collect unemployment benefits afterwards until I started my studies. Good times.

Simply unscrew the nuts after the electric valves for bottles 3 and 4 (they are manually activated) and you can extinguish the crew cabin at will. But you better take a deep breath.

It makes perfect sense. If something breaks at the weld joints that's typically because the weld is the weakest spot so it gives in first.
If a welded structure fails anywhere else, that means the welds are good enough that they are almost as strong as the rest of the structure.

The hull ammo stowage in the leopard is protected and designed to reduce the risk of sympathetic ignition; the cartridges are stored in metal tubes surrounded by water, that provide some protection from spall and slow down the spread of ammunition fires.

All modern tank ammunition uses combustible cartridges that burn up along with the propellant, this increases the possible chamber pressure and prevents empty casings from piling up inside the tank.

These cartridges, effectively made from gun cotton, that burn up completely inside the gun, are a serious fire risk, even compared to alder brass/steel cased ammunition.
In T-64 and T-72 derived tanks they are completely exposed inside the autoloader system and in the hull stowage, there is nothing to stop sparks and spall from igniting the flammable casings.
It's this that makes them even more dangerous than older designs like the T-55, T-62 that stored metal cased ammo all over the inside of the tank.

Those are metal case T-62 ammunition, the packaging has rotted away but the actual case is fine.
The thing to worry about here is the condition of the propellant after potential improper storage.

            Anonymous

            >after potential improper storage

I'd say it's highly likely they were improperly stored. I've seen that look before, it's when someone left something out in the rain or a really damp area.

if the shells were exposed to shit conditions and moisture to do that to the paper containers, I think the propellent is not going to be that great of shape too. Yes, it goes into the fighting compartment. A direct hit with large artillery is NOT going to end well for any tank.

Knowing the orcoid subhumans, if this had so much as caused a nosebleed they'd be posting pics of it non-stop. No way that this killed someone and they didn't take photos of it.

moron read who I'm replying to, he's the lying shitter saying the driver is dead.
There is no way it was a large artillery shell unless it went off on some branch above the tank, it was far more likely indirect 100mm HE or something similar.

that is clearly an internal sympathetic ammo detonation or a direct hit from a stuka bomb.

Friendly reminder: the most vocal "german" and "poles", who threw shit at the other side, in Germany vs Poland weapon thread, were usually very evasive when pressed to say something in german or polish, or even answer to questions in these languages. When you think that sound awful like falseflagging vatniks, then you might be onto something. I doubt it is much different here.

it's not a TOS, check the video and you see it's the M113/Leo 2a6-2a4 convoy. Unconfirmed what the thing blowing up is, but there's a flaming 2A4 at the scene later when the smoke clears

NTA, I have checked it 5 times and I can't see with so low quality, anon if you are not doing this out of malice genuinely ask for better quality images because if you told me 6 himars were in that convoy I would still see the same 4 pixels, I can't see shit

Okay wait, so a week into the offensive with supposedly catastrophic losses for western armor we have a grand total of one actually destroyed Leopard 2. That was getting hit by mines, artillery, Lancets, ATGMs and who the frick knows what else. Also at least 3 of the crew members escaped. Everything else is shit like dropped tracks, fricked optics or cracked roof.

And in the same period we got videos with at least a dozen of vatnik tanks exploding in fireballs.

I thought defending side was supposed to suffer fewer losses?

It gets better, that Leo has ukies standing on it too. So it got recovered.

Why do people keep saying this is a direct hit to the roof? It's very clearly not a direct hit at the very least. Nowhere near enough surface damage, and lets be real if it took a direct hit from artillery, which it didn't, and the turret was actually breached... the crew is paste.
