It certainly is the swiss army knife of guns. Which is to say they're for poorgays who can't afford tools or have any use for them beyond novelty.

    >old man gives me his mossberg 500 cause he’s too old for his shoulder to handle it

    >locked rearward, cannot bring forward
    >I must be doing something wrong, first shotgun
    >can’t fricking get the thing to work, do I need to depress the lever? Wtf
    >decide to take it apart
    >grease EVERYWHERE
    >such a thick layer of grease it locked up the forearm
    >gun is almost 40 years old and probably was never detailed properly
    >every single piece of equipment is so saturated it’s fricking unusable
    >take everything out, even disassemble the trigger group, sticky as frick
    >wipe each piece and give them 2-3 run through of CLP
    >takes 3 hours to put the trigger group back together
    >get everything clean and gently lubed
    >runs snap caps smoothly now

    I have some concerns,
1- could all the dusty shit be wood dust due to termites in the wood furniture or something?

2- when I end up trying live ammo is there any way I could blow my shit up if I incorrectly completed the trigger assembly? I’m pretty sure I got everything how it needs to be but it was my first time doing anything like that. Glad I did cause now I know the gun intimately but I just dont want to frick my shit up

      >1- could all the dusty shit be wood dust due to termites in the wood furniture or something?
Most likely not, I'd be shocked if that was the case. If termites were present the wood would basically fall apart in your hands; it'd be very obvious
      >2- when I end up trying live ammo is there any way I could blow my shit up if I incorrectly completed the trigger assembly?
      No

You're fine. Its a mossberg 500. He probably just kept it in his shop or truck, and particulates like sawdust tend to cling to grease. I highly doubt it's termites. Like the other anon said, you could squeeze the furniture with your hand and it would crumble if that were the case. Also, if you put the trigger assembly back together incorrectly, you wouldn't be cycling snap caps. Check to see what choke it has and then just run it.

      >decide to grab his Ruger SP101 for shits and giggles
      >know it’s his nightstand gun, so retrieve it from the drawer
      >open it up to clear it
      >wtf can’t even depress the cylinder release button
      >finally get it open to find it’s totally clogged with lint, pet hair, and grime
      >doubt the double action would even cycle
      >scrub it down with oil and a whole bag of wipes
      >give it a good later of lubricant
      >works smooth now
      >realize later if he needed that gun in a break in situation we’d be fricked

Man, I had something like that happen with my dad. I opened a pistol rug up to find his S&W Model 36 and it was loaded with 5 different types of decades old corroded .38spl. I doubt any of them would have fired without something catastrophic happening. I'm talking split cases on two of them and they were unfired. He'd had that revolver for at least 35 years, and it was the only handgun he had. After I b***hed him out about it and tried to get him to understand how irresponsible and dumb that was, I went and bought him a new S&W 637 without a lock and some actually good ammo and I traded it for his 36. Fricking boomers, man.

If you want to pluck geese& crane out of low-orbit then get yourself a 10g with a 30"-36" barrel. The heavier the better to absorb the recoil

What I want is a tactical semi-auto 10 gauge. I think it could really take off.

I still believe the 590A1 is a marketing gimmick and the military specs for a service shotgun is overkill. My brother beats the hell out of his 590 hunting and skeet shooting and never had it explode on him.

Not that I notice. I hunt with a regular field grade 500, and I can't tell any difference. Maybe if I shot them side by side, but it wouldn't be much. The extra weight does get tiring on the arms though, it's very noticeable in that way

Got one of these used for 150. I lo e it. Its more compact than a pump because of the shorter action. My favorite gun for blasting snakes. Any one else into sinlge shotters.
