Thanks for the nudge, convinced me to go ahead and pull the trigger on a slightly nicer sit-on-top fisher for ~450 Americano. That's about a hundred bucks less than I saw he model going for last year- I assume they spooled up production like crazy when everybody went apeshit for outdoor gear/hobbies during COVID and they are now trying to unload.
>By the time the mornings are getting chilly all that's left are pink scarves and XXL coats.
Same thing happens here in EU except the small sizes that are left are in the S and M size.
I think they make 90% of their money off suburban moms who see them, get excited about the prospect of being adventure mom, buy one, then let it rot under the deck.
When I lived in suburbia every other house had one under the deck with the same idea.
Paddleboards too.
Costco makes no money in sales. They sell at maximum 15% margin which covers overhead. Where they make money is the memberships and credit cards and vendors. The vendor items in costco are paid for by those companies essentially as advertisement. They count the ins and outs to claim foot traffic and vendors pay costco to display their items because customers who see something that doesn't say "kirkland signature" think "oh ok this is a name brand item." It is a means to grow brand recognition and trust in the quality. When an item is marked down over 25% like this it is a loss lead to drive more foot traffic to get more vendors to pay for real estate. Kind of like a trade conference booth model. This kayak is being sold at a loss.
As a loss leader, they do make serious bank in sales, but only on the overpriced generics that sit next to the discounted brands. It's the combo theory where the hot dog is sold near cost and the markup is on the fries and drink.
I fucking hate paddle boards so goddamn much. Kinda happened when I went rving I just couldn't take it with me, if ppl wanna adventure on the side i suggest inflatable
>wearing it >not strapping it to the front in the most passive aggressive compliance possible
NGMI (unless "it" is an unexpected run of rapids).
here's perhaps the best life jacket for kayaking. always had an issue with the back of other vests and the back of the kayak seat. back of this vest sits higher than your typical kayak seat back.

can't swim if youre unconscious and harder to swim if injured. already went down river without one, bad mistake but got lucky because i'm a good swimmer. river had me and my kayak pinned against a fallen tree trying to sweep me under the trunk and branches.

safety is no bullshit out in the middle of nowhere
yeah, and newfags fall for that shit like the fags they are. its worth paying for something that could save your ass, not some entry level shit from wallyworld.
yeah, and i got a shit Stearns "fishing jacket" that's touted to be good for paddling. not even the same. most paddling jackets feature good arm movement not fitting for kayak seats.
I have a hyperlite paddle vest and a fishing paddle vest and both are fine with seat clearance. But to be fair I am 6'2" with a long torso so maybe your milage varies if you are shorter.
why the fuck do decent fishing yaks all start at like 700 minimum? All the ones in the 300-500 price range I've seen have complaints about them being easy to tip
if you think the problems come from the people that have been there generations back, not imports that get sent also to every other state, then it would be a fruitless discussion
What's the consensus on foldable kayaks? I hate clutter so I'm obsessed this fantasy of keeping everything small but feasible. I want everything to be able to fit in my truck bed.
wait, really?
i thought these things were a huge meme destined to pop when you're halfway out in the lagoons on that nice lil' paddle date
I don't think it's possible to make them go pop, but I took my brother's Challenger K2 onto the lake last week and it already got a puncture after its first outing. I don't think this happened in the water, btw, but probably when it dragged on the pebble beach or when I propped it up on its side to install/remove the keel.
I got the 'tucktec' folding kayak
it works ok but starts folding in half if you sit in it too long, and one of the seams looks like it's about to go.
also the guy that makes them took like 6 months to ship it
Just got this. Straight up took it out on the ocean yesterday in high wind and was thoroughly impressed, then I pussied out because I got it in my head sharks were out to get me.
It's cool if ur upset or mad, I still ended up taking it on a river too yesterday with was fun as fuck. Too bad I'm a chud and can't get a cool outdoorsy bf to travel with me ;_;
Are these pakayaks a marketing gimmick? I had to sell my last kayak cuz I move a lot and also have a home gym in my garage so space is limited and moving sucks (7 times in 3 years). This shit would probably fit in the trunk of my hatch.
I want to get into kayak camping and maybe hit some rapids. My last kayak was just a $500 recreational one and I was sort of outgrowing it as a paddler.
The other thing I looked at was a eddyline skylark, which is lighter but will sink in rapids. And cost is similar considering I would have to get new roof rack mounts,
I've used a Ukai freedom before. Th straps synch pretty tight, no wobble from the the connection. the set up easy and quick, and they seem pretty robust
I know what's gonna happen anon. You won't decide to get one until summer really hits and gets swinging and by then they'll ALL BE GONE
This is why I buy my winter shit in late summer. By the time the mornings are getting chilly all that's left are pink scarves and XXL coats.
I bought this same one last year for $300. Yes I am a little upset.
Oh, well, at least you have one
you haven't got $30 worth of fun out of it in that time?

what are you saying
Greetings from finland I hate women
>I know what's gonna happen anon. You won't decide to get one until summer really hits and gets swinging and by then they'll ALL BE GONE
Haha fuck lad, you described exactly the cycle ive been in for 3 years. Life is pain when your paychecks arent consistent
This, always buy a kayak off season if your likely to be using it in the upcoming season.

What did we do to make you hate us so?
Go for it. I think they are pretty great for their price. Too bad it's hard to get parts for it in EU.
>parts
tires and sparkplugs and such?
Headlight fluid.
They sell some of these on amazon but not all
wear entry level life jacket
a buoyancy aid if you will
backpack floats nicely when clothes are packed in watertight bags, also sleeping pad
saved my life once and since that i have been using life jacket
>responding to a shitpost seriously
I can't swim. Extreme bone destiny.
lmao cope
my bro.
Im naturally incredibly buoyant always have been.
Translation: Fatass
That bone density thing only happens to black people. That's why they can almost never become navy seals.

moron just learn 2 swim

They usually call these paddle vests

Women are so beautiful, i love them bros
women are gay
Do you really, really, really like women?
I'm sexually attracted to myself
Canadian Tire has even more entry level pelicans for $180 Canadian pesos
ohh these are made from foam that´s the joke, could not tell from the op pic
The op pic is plastic.
those are tiny childrens kayaks
We're all little girls here
anon, he said entry level
sisters UwU
why the fuck do decent fishing yaks all start at like 700 minimum? All the ones in the 300-500 price range I've seen have complaints about them being easy to tip
Most kayaks are easy to tip, just learn to live with it.
Just don't be fat
Where was this deal i see the same shit but it's $400
Delaware and it's sold tax free where are you, california?
not that anon but they're tree fiddy here in Ohio
Why?
Well they are destroying every single surrounding state. The new jersey of the west
if you think the problems come from the people that have been there generations back, not imports that get sent also to every other state, then it would be a fruitless discussion
>obsessed with a state
MD, can't find this shit anywhere.
Literally drive to newark. You should be doing it anyway to dodge taxes.
Fuck that the price of gas alone makes buying it at full price cheaper right here.
I'm glad I live right on the border not in the DC hellzone lmao
always see them used on fbmp for 200..the plastic is cheap and thin, buy a real kayak
They have them at Academy too
What's the consensus on foldable kayaks? I hate clutter so I'm obsessed this fantasy of keeping everything small but feasible. I want everything to be able to fit in my truck bed.
i would be concerned about their lifespan, bending plastics never end well in the long run
what about the paddle, life vest and all the other gear?
Inflatables are much better for the price.
wait, really?
i thought these things were a huge meme destined to pop when you're halfway out in the lagoons on that nice lil' paddle date
Costco has a 14ft inflatable with dropstitch fabric for $350 right now. Orus are like $1200
>Costco has a 14ft inflatable with dropstitch fabric for $350 right now
Link? I'm not seeing anything like that.
Sale ended already. It's back up to $500. Slow board.

Tl;dr: they are very fragile.
looking at an itiwit 2-person in my apartment right now. what am i in for? gonna take it out this weekend if the weather's good
also, maybe one day i'll get a skin-on-frame with a greenland paddle. that's the dream, fellas

It's cool if ur upset or mad, I still ended up taking it on a river too yesterday with was fun as fuck. Too bad I'm a chud and can't get a cool outdoorsy bf to travel with me ;_;
what a sad LARP to have on this board
Not a larp but you do you. Sure you're as dedicated to outdoor life as I am.
Does your dick shrivel up in cold water?
What dick?
This fixation is the sort of LARP I was referring to.
>outdoorsy travel bf

Don't forget your lacrosse stick bro
Costco does this every year at this time...
