Maverick 88 is the single most bang for your buck gun in the current market outside of maybe a Rossi RS22.
    I like 12s and 22s.

I'd like to have one at some point but have no idea where to start, I'll probably go with a pump action because the tactile sensation of racking the gun seems fun.

Cant go wrong with a Mossberg 500/590/mav88, plenty of great options out there but they're like a mid range ar or a glock or a honda civic, not fancy by any stretch but youve gotta try or be exceptionally retarded to fuck one up

Mav 88's for about $300, wise investment and it'll last you a lifetime. Jimbo Reeves did a 500 round burndown test and it performed flawlessly, they really are tanks. Mossberg can't be making any money off them for what they charge.

Avoid any Remington 870's made in the last decade or so, their QC went downhill when that shit company acquired them.

Older Winchester 1300's and 1200's are fantastic too, the old Defenders are super light and hold 8 rounds.

Ithaca 37s are solid too but hard to find one that isn't thrashed or costing $800 now, they have a memetax.

Stay away from Turkshit, you're wasting money and for $100 more can have a proper American-made gun.

Defenders had an aluminum receiver and "speed pump" feature which unlocks the forend after the shot and uses a rotating/locking lug bolt system. They reliably cycle 2.75 and 3 inch shells, I've never had an issue.

Not sure about the new ones though, they're made by Turks so you're kind of gambling...

I've had a Maverick 88 since 2015 that I mainly do skeet with, it's a hell of a gun. I've put all kinds of shit through it. I think I've cleaned it once, but I still bat 500 for clays, so I'll take it. (Yes, I know I'm bad, but I only really get a group together once a year or so)

Seriously, it's a great gun, plus the vast majority of Mossberg 500 Accessories work out of the box, so you can customize it all day.

A much as i love my shotguns i will concede the points that the largest detractors care to point out, range and capacity personally id also say they have a steep learning curve for competency. Most tasks pertaining to the operation and effective use of shotguns are dead nuts simple but take a fair amount of dexterity and practice to do quickly and efficiently, carrying shells in a large quantity can be a hassle too

Shotguns are based if you want to have one, cheap gun and use it to hunt everything in between squirrel and moose.

But, by definition, they're not as good as rifles when it comes to being really efficient for one particular niche.

Get a used, smokeless 2 3/4" chamber 12ga side by side, a slim one with a small forend and light barrels. You literally don't need the giant magnum 3 1/2" chambered Big Nuts 12 MAGNUM because it weighs twice as much.

Nova barrels are stupid expensive, especially if you want camo ones, and I don't think they sell a combo. In general that's one of the big problems with the gun, it's cheap by Benelli standards but parts and accessories are all priced like they're for a $2k M4 instead of the $500 pump it actually is.

            Anonymous

noticed that too. What would be great to see is camo pattern mossberg 500 camo combo that was cut for an RMR optic. They have some with an RMSc cut, and the 835 has the same 3.5" capabilities as the supernova too. But again, I'm giving myself plenty of time to figure out what to do. Hell I just got the Browning Cynergy CX from earlier pic and havent even shot it yet and the next gun I plan on getting is a revolver I can put a scope on

1gun fag here,i was looking into getting a shotgun sometime this year,i've heard the maverick 88 was pretty good for a first one, also is the ks7 any decent a guy at my range was trying to sell me on one, says he uses it for home defense

I've heard the KSG is better I don't own one, in fact I only own one shotgun but by reputation the other anon who brokedown american pumps briefly is correct and I've enjoyed old 870s I've shot. You're probably better off with a traditionaly design unless you are getting something out of it like double the capacity.

I have; I picked up a Nova in late '20 or early '21 when birdshot was the only ammo that was cheap and easy to get and the Benelli was a good deal compared to Mossberg and Remington stuff that was marked up to hell everywhere. Now that prices are back to normal though I'm thinking about trading it in on a 590, I like the gun itself but I'd rather have something with a full-length tube from the factory and if possible I'd really like wood furniture. (590 Retrograde I guess.)

I miss my 14" Supernova very much; shame the aftermarket for them is pretty sparse compared to Mossberg 500/590's and Remington 870's.

        Anonymous

Yeah, that's one of the main reasons I want to let the Nova go. The length of pull is also a little long for me and there's not much you can do about it, at least the Supernova has the option of changing stocks but it's permanently joined to the action on the base Nova and Supers were inflated to more than I was willing to spend during panic buy season.

      Anonymous

The only reason I haven’t bought a Nova is because of the pump. Seems like it would be really easy to accidentally get your finger slammed in that little cut out on the top.

        Anonymous

It kind of is, but you quickly learn to hold it in a way that prevents that. (You grip the forward part, which is where you'd hold any other pump anyway.) The real problem with the forend is that it has no provision for mounting a light, the rear part makes it hard to run a sidesaddle, and there's no way to change the pump for an aftermarket one because it has the shell eject button built into it. (Not sure what the proper term would be, but it's kind of a cool feature, you press it and the gun will eject the shell from the chamber without loading another round from the tube, nice if something goes bump in the night and then it turns out to be a nothingburger and you want to render the gun safe again.)

i like my nova a lot, i got a full length tube extension for it, with a side pic rail for a light, i like having the ghost ring sights and the 3.5" chamber, and it is just a very tight and solid feeling shotgun, sorry yours didnt work for you but i'm definitely never gonna sell mine
