about half the size. the requirements the USAF submitted during the design process basically matches the real world usage of the B-2 over the last 20 years.
the average volume of ordinance the B-2 has dropped during real sorties is about what the B-21 will be able to carry.
If you told me I could help design weapons of mass destruction and be in silly DARPA skunkworks shit if I pay attention in school, I would’ve done so happily.
oh just want to point out the 10,000+ miles is only from Whitman AFB to Diego Garcia, it doesn't even count the round trip to Afghanistan which is another 3,000 miles each way
in addition to them being some of the most valuable and classified military tech in the world they make up a third of the nuclear triad, keeping them smack dab in the middle of the country is added security for them. They're sure as frick no moving them that close to China
Flying east would entail an extended duration over melanin-enriched terrain. If worst comes to worst and the crew has to bail from the aircraft, better to ditch over the Pacific.

I've never heard of this place. Does the US have a base there? An allied country?
Singapore, if it was required. Either their own refuelers, or forward-deployed US ones.
stupid question maybe but are most bombers based in center of country because if they are being refueled like this anyways it's just safer to have them away from the coasts? are there other/better reasons?
They're being based in multiple locations, but I think part of the reason is because they're strategic targets for nuclear weapons and they want those a bit away from major urban centers.
American tech >Make it smaller and more efficient that way it has a minuscule, undetectable radar cross section

I ask this unironically - do you think if that technology existed that they would publically acknowledge it right after it was developed, or at least after it was adopted by the military? Or would it stay classified for 50 years or something?
NGL I'm pretty hyped. First brand new strategic bomber since the end of the Cold War. It's just a bummer that we've all seen so many artist's renderings that the revealing of the prototype won't show anything really new.
I mean, they wouldn't pull off something like the F-19/F-117 thing, would they? >Oh look, our artist's renderings show this disc-shaped süper-sicrit plane while in reality the plane looks like Darth Vader's helmet built from lego bricks.
Nah, the only reason the F-117 was so fricky was because their computers could only render that many pixels. The B-2 is pretty much the same thing but the flat edges are just way smaller. This new one will probably be even smoother.
>the only reason the F-117 was so fricky was because their computers could only render that many pixels
Anon, I know that. Still nobody said a single word when Mattel (and others) released scale models of the "F-19" and even Tom frickin Clancy wrote about the disc-shaped F-19 in Red Storm Rising.

It's definitely flown secret flights. She had to have meant public. Back in the B-2 reveal era journalists rented a field neighboring the base to get a photo of the back of the plane. I wonder if modern journos can even try to attempt something similar or if they are too cowed now.
So, what is the point to manned stealth bombers anymore? What can they offer that a drone nearly 1/12th the size couldn't offer?
Why not just put the stealth tech into a missile/cruise missile and use a drone to provide precision targeting to the missile? Hell, even a big enough fin guided artillery shot with drone guidance would be 1/100th the cost and wouldnt be nearly as much a hands off approach to actually using out risk of tech falling into enemy hands (think the reluctance of using the F35 in combat ever since the F117 fiasco in serbia)
The SD literally said it can do AWACS, Recon, and bombing all in one chassis. Its an E3, B2, and U2 all rolled into one plane.... which are already planes that have drone based replacements.
I get the bomber has power projection but at this point with drone, missile, and spy satellite technology, is building massively expensive manned stealth bomber just Gun Boat Diplomacy?
Having trained human pilots behind enemy lines making the call to go ahead with the mission or even adjust it depending on local conditions even if under a total loss of contact with command. Strategic bombers are for complex mulitpart missions while drones (for now) are for picking away at single targets of opportunity.

Will it just be a B2 reskin or something more?
It will be smaller and the skin will look like almost any other stealth plane. Won't be that different to look at.
Yah definitely think they will go smaller and it being focused solely on high altitude. Not like the B2 they wanted to be able to fly low as well as high

>If you are experiencing playback problems, please update your Flash player plugin
Flash? Yes, I have total confidence this will be cutting edge.
The invocation of Flash is a sign B-21 will have SOVL rather that be soulless.
Bro I bet you can play new grounds on it!

it doesn't start until 8PM.
AAAAA RUSSIAN HACKERS
AHAHAHAHAHAHA the website crashed, fricking hilarious
too many people trying to watch
I'm guessing they didn't anticipate this many people cared about a flying triangle
>Can design a stealth bomber
>Can't build a website that can handle the load
This must be several 1000% above normal traffic but this it too funny

I HATE AWS
I HATE AWS
Definitely more than 1000% increase. I’m seething right now that I can’t watch.
Seems like Northrop is just matching Edwards.
Just use the Youtube link from Edwards at that point since it won't crash.

Narcissist bastards.
That's about as much as the B-2 got shown when it rolled out in 1989.
seems a bit mean to force the admiral to talk about an exclusively air force platform
SHOW THE EXHAUSTS COWARDS
No XI, your spies will have to get the pictures themselves
Look at those thin intakes, makes the B-2 look like a blocky piece of junk
why does he say "pivotable" instead of "pivotal"

B-21 "BIG CUMS" Raider, dropping longer range loads.
>we are making it "plane" to everyday folk
what did they mean by this
I thought only white people did the gay shit where they number their kids
uh what's going on
They're putting it to bed, she just said it. Pay attention.
nap time, motherfrickers
>Americans are so lazy even their planes need to sleep
BAKA HAHAHAHA
The frick. Did they sticky the second the stream ended or something?
nice sticky mods
wait I thought the plane had already flown, did she mean first public flight?
It's definitely flown secret flights. She had to have meant public. Back in the B-2 reveal era journalists rented a field neighboring the base to get a photo of the back of the plane. I wonder if modern journos can even try to attempt something similar or if they are too cowed now.
>Carrier capable
HUH?
Dont pair Ryuko with such a moronic post.
For what its worth, im genuinely curious if im missing something
Having trained human pilots behind enemy lines making the call to go ahead with the mission or even adjust it depending on local conditions even if under a total loss of contact with command. Strategic bombers are for complex mulitpart missions while drones (for now) are for picking away at single targets of opportunity.
>Having trained human pilots behind enemy lines making the call to go ahead with the mission or even adjust it depending on local conditions even if under a total loss of contact with command.
That is a very good point. Thank you.
sleep tight B-21 raider(tm)
>sleep tight B-21 raider(tm)
It's nuke capable which means it has to be piloted.
>It's nuke capable which means it has to be piloted.
By that logic, shouldn't ICBMs also be manned?
Who's to say that they aren't?
sleep tight B-21 Raider™
