They released a set of the Red Baron’s Fokker FFS.
Just see how politically incorrect some of the Lego System sets from the 90s were, like those island natives for example.
Yes
If their airforce/air defence are defeated , you can use the AC 130
kek >Destroy/suppress enemy air defenses >Everyone assumes you're now going to carpet bomb them into submission >Actually use the entire country as a JTAC proving ground
Cool I guess but what we really need in the pivot to China are B-1V Vampires. >Take the radome from an E-2 Hawkeye >stick it on the spine of a lancer >strap 50 amraams onto its belly
It’d be a literal ace combat boss that could fly around the pacific lobbing spamraams as it pleases
>every person who ever serves in these gunships ends up developing serious and permanent neurological problems from all of the powder residue and heavy metal
what's the point in keeping these manned?
I think they're working on PAPR systems for them, are they not?
Like constant forced air for respiration, connected to the aircraft via helmet/hose systems.
Basically a little environmental suit so the crew doesn't have to ingest all the shit being forced into their environment.
person who ever serves in these gunships ends up developing serious and permanent neurological problems from all of the powder residue and heavy metal >what's the point in keeping these manned?
To keep the VA medical centers manned.
>30mm off an Apache >10 Griffins >4 Hellfires >4 105lb GBUs
HOLY MOM'S TAMALES that's some hot shit. I am ROCK HARD rn. >tfw you roll an attack helicopter, strike fighter, and a self propelled howitzer into one vehicle
Americans aren't fighting their peers, they fight against goat herders in middle east or somalis in the forrests. These enemies have large numbers, but next to no air coverage other than shitty, outdated soviet made missiles. After gaining air dominance, US can give close air support with those planes. Against anyone with AA capabilities they're useless.
The US did pretty decently with them in Vietnam and Cambodia. They still needed escorts, but only six were lost compared to the absolute mayhem they wrecked on NVA/VC supplies and they're track record with providing devastating CAS.

Yeah the obsolescence thing is overstated if intel is good enough (not russian) and you're an actual real army capable of actual basic combined arms maneuvers (not russian). Long range AA is small in number, large number AA has short range, so can easily just watch where AA is, do SEAD on long range stuff/radars, do a first pass in a given small area ground forces will need help in, use AC130 selectively right after then leave before more can turn up.
Rods from the Gods when?
>Rods from the Gods when?
When Starship is fully online and launching a kilogram to orbit costs $200 and you can do 150 tons at once.
What difference in roles do the wing-mounted GBU-53 small diameter bomb, bay-mounted AGM-176 Griffin personal guided munition, and Hellfires play? Obviously different size boom-booms and time to target, but what else?
And how many dudes have to be crammed in there to work al this shit?
I hope Call of Duty makes another gun run mission with the updated spoopy.
It's not just the width in caliber that changes, overall length of the shell and casing can dramatically effect the performance of the round in ways that are not immediately apparent when only referring to ammunition by diameter.
>GBU-53 small diameter bomb,
Glide bomb. Long stand off range. Comes in quietly. No visible light from launching it.
>Hellfires
Missile with duel purpose anti tank and anti personnel warhead. Can also be fitted with the ninja warhead that uses swords to kill high value targets with minimal collateral damage. Can also track helicopters to an extent. Decent range. Fast.
>AGM-176 Griffin
Air to surface missile with ability to stealthily launch as a glide bomb if desired. Flexible. Smaller than Hellfire. Less collateral damage and more carry capacity. Useful against agile ground targets like armored cars, boats, and infantry.
The last 8 months give every indication that a "neer peer" does not exist in the short to mid future.and the MIC makes good money keeping it that way. Meanwhile desert apes and forest coons are going to continue to be a fly in the ointment of our international interests, and these systems and platforms are ideal for that.
They were trolling through naval shipyards to find 80 year old bofors barrels from WWII that were still suitable as replacements. .30 is kind of a mesh between both that can still frick up infantry and soft vehicles dead. Besides, did you see what they put in the cargo bay? Absolute breasts!
Because the A-10 is that little psycho at the bar that domes people with a pool cue when they aren't looking and stomps a mudhole in them, and he needs a big brother psycho that shows up to clear out the joint singlehandedly at 1:30AM
Gunships are incredibly potent if you have good SEAD. Nothing is safe from it and it can shoot for a LONG time. Attack aircraft can drop bigger bombs, but a gunship can spread out its payload for maximum effect and will be a constant threat for hours. A single AC-130H can kill dozens of tanks and IFVs along with another few dozen infantry squads. Your guys on the ground can just point at what they need killed and it will be dead in seconds.
Could you even imagine how many battles would have become trivial in Ukraine with such capability? Just looking at raw combat footage, the danger that thing would present in the Eastern European theater would be unparalleled.
I worked on ACj’s for a couple years, a funny story I like to share is the J models didn’t have the 105mm at first cause every time they shot it the J model props would get damaged. J model props are made from fiber glass while the H model props are steel. Also you can convert a MC-130J to become a AC-130J.
Here’s a better angle of the art, this on like majority of the planes, we’re not allowed to have fun anymore and put special decals
So you're saying the H model steel props were just brushing off the damage the whole time, and this wasn't really understood until more fragile props revealed the issue?
I guess no one at locksneed fartin thought about it, H props are stupid strong they kill birds no problem but if you bonk a J prop you have to change it. It’s also easier to removed the entire prop assembly over an individual prop. Btw I’m aircraft maintenance
So you're saying the H model steel props were just brushing off the damage the whole time, and this wasn't really understood until more fragile props revealed the issue?
why is it Lego?
Oh shit my bad. I suppose it would be much cheaper to build 32 lego AC-130s.
is cheap homie
god i wish lego released actual military sets. They wouldnt even sell an Osprey because of pearl clutchers
They released a set of the Red Baron’s Fokker FFS.
Just see how politically incorrect some of the Lego System sets from the 90s were, like those island natives for example.
the Blue Power jet they did was a minifig scale F35
What? No. They stopped selling the Osprey set because it wasn’t well designed enough for their danish autism. Had nothing to do with Pearl clutchers
Because its badass and cool
They have no real use in war but its cool to use it when SEAD has been done
In peer combat SEAD is never truly done.
There are more HARMs in the world than Russian made FC radars. Let's test that claim.
You don't even need to look at peer combat. Check out Libya and US in the 80s.
So it's basically to dab on defeated enemies. Cool.

They are? I'm surprised
Why are they still investing in COIN assets?
The first AC130s were built LONG before America got involved in the ME
As a successor to the AC-47, which was a rush job conversion for the Vietnam war.
Just to flex on the poors. Just wait until they out the laser and VideoSAR targeting system on it.
We haven't ordered any more in several years, and I don't think there are any immediate plans to buy more.
They want 37 by FY24.
https://www.af.mil/About-Us/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/467756/ac-130j-ghostrider/
>why make a flying tank
The same reason why we’re building amphibious C-130s.
Because frick you that’s why
Cool I guess but what we really need in the pivot to China are B-1V Vampires.

That’s moronic. You’re moronic. Stop being moronic.
Go back to playing Ace Combat.

They're waiting for you, Gordon. In the test hangar.
Why do they make us wear these ridiculous ties?

Yes please, I love working on hercs.

the Space Shuttle was 2300+ tons with payload and it went up and came down many times
You know, I actually wrote why you're illiterate/moronic, but I guess I'll just post this instead.

Why did they remove the gatling gun/mini-gun from the 130H?
not enough stand-off range, even against small
AAA
But I don't think that the new autocannon would improve range that much? It's only 25mm vs 30mm, not a huge difference.
parts and ammo communality with other 30mm Bushmaster cannons too.

We're getting ready to go back to Somalia.
why not make a plane that flies really high like near the space then just put guns in it and snipe air defence things from space?
Because physics and money and at that point just have a platform capable of orbital strikes.
sr71 and the u2 can fly high why not built it bigger and put guns in them?
Rods from the Gods when?
Never because it’s a moronic idea
Gun close>gun far
Because the Military Industrial Complex needs the money.
And politicians need to keep the MIC jobs or their voters won't be happy.
have they finally fixed all the issues with the 30mm cannon?
What issues? Isn't it the same one from the Apaches?
AC-130s being flown by zoomer pilots now
that's one pathetic moustache
Frick you, we do our jobs.
ayo dis plane be hella bussin fr fr no god on cap
Did they ever figure out how to make these not fill the fricking plane with toxic fumes from the guns?
they'll use them to dab on you in the coming civil war
trips don't lie. This was my first guess too, one for each urbanized area in the USA.
We still Africa to pacify.
Both this and the A10 are useless in a near-peer or peer conflict. We should divest ourselves of them immediately.
The last 8 months give every indication that a "neer peer" does not exist in the short to mid future.and the MIC makes good money keeping it that way. American cowards.
t. coping seething dilater

Fricking mega gay. Thecrew deserve cancer for using that cringe shit

Imagine if someone puts a gau-30 on a c-130. Sustained brrts without the unreliability of the a-10
Because the A-10 is that little psycho at the bar that domes people with a pool cue when they aren't looking and stomps a mudhole in them, and he needs a big brother psycho that shows up to clear out the joint singlehandedly at 1:30AM
Will it still give the entire crew severe neurological problems from the massive lead intake?
because /k/ needs to have a great lego collection

Maybe Ukraine should ask for a couple from Lend Lease and some F-15E's or F-16's for escorts.
I think gunships are still effective against Russians style advance where your AA forgets it exists and parks on the side of the road with no fuel.
And takes weekends off. Don't forget that.
