2000 watt laser tool, could it be usable in blacksmithing?

Saw this thing weld some steel and the weld was pretty strong… was curious if it could be used as a blacksmithing tool?

I would think hammering hot metal on top of it would damage it in some way.

yeah i definitely wouldn't hammer anything on that. you'd probably be better off using the box on wheels.

idk looks like plastic to me. hammering hot metal on plastic is generally frowned upon in the blacksmithing community, though there have been renegades in the past who insisted upon it.

It can only melt an area large enough to weld, blacksmithing usually requires the whole piece to be red hot. I'm not sure what you have in mind.

Welding handles and pommels to swords… although I can see where your getting at with the red hot thing

And thank you for answering the fricking question unlike 90%of the rest of the fricking thread

It would probably work for that, I thought you meant trying to forge a sword or something a tiny bit at a time, lol. For the price though, you'd probably be better off getting a tig welder and learning that.

                Figures

What about filing/grinding down the blade to sharpen it? Should atleast be slightly better than doing it by hand right?

                >What about filing/grinding down the blade to sharpen it?
this is called a Grindstone and you'll find almost all smiths using one.

I know what a grindstone is I’m just wondering if this can be used in place of one?

Erm, that's kind of like asking if a saw can be used in place of a hammer.

its really not designed for the job you're thinking of doing.

Then came MC Hammer and ruined everything. Oh well what were we talking hmm.

        >those wires coming out held on by a thin metal strip that could easily damage the wires over time from constant motion and flexing or the metal strip could break off providing 0 support for the wires where they eventually get pulled out of the handle and are fricked and your $10k machine is now useless
