it fired and was loud. that's the extent of my impressions of it.
my understanding is that 7.62 is not a joke round tho, hence my feeling somewhat confident about using it in black mesa.

Nah to the reliability at least, FAL definitely has the sexier look and the better balance. G3s tend to be more reliable in my experience and maybe a tad more accurate but all that weight is way out front.
FALs, as you can ever know them, are NOTORIOUSLY unreliable. G3's, or PTR-91s, or HK-91's, are one of the most reliable self loading firearms ever made. there are G3's made in 1951 that are still killing people in south america and africa.
I'm sure that actual factory production made for sale to militaries in the 60s FAL's were fine. but the G3 was better. it is very accurate. it is very reliable. it's actually one of the simplest firearms ever made, in terms of part count, which was made possible with kraut space magic. the Mp5 is still issued today for killing people all over the world (Mp5 is just a smaller G3), and the G3 is still in use all over the world, making it the longest lasting combat rifle ever made.
it's a brutal gun. if you're not brutal enough you will probably not like shooting it.
a lot of people had bad experience with century branded G3's because they're stupid monkeys and were putting them together wrong and doing sheisty stuff, but a PTR-91 is made to exact HK spec , they purchased the rights to the engineering documents, and purchased the portugese arsenal machinery for making them.
no, you can not just put a suppressor on one. you'll frick it up. you will have to select a different sized locking piece to install in the bolt to achieve the correct backpressure, since it does not have a gas system that can be adjusted.

It's fine, but has weak ergonomics. You have to shoulder it properly to avoid malfunctions (and bruises), and sight alignment is moronic by modern standards.
