Bruh, as a fricking Oregonian this state has literally gone to absolute SHIT these past 20 years and there is NO-ONE to blame but the Democrats. Republicans have ZERO power or sway in this state and anything pushed through by the Democrats is an auto-win for them. All the large cities: Portland, Salem & Eugene are absolute shitholes with some of the worst people imaginable roaming the streets. I cannot go Downtown anymore in Portland because of the people literally shitting on the streets and the blocks upon blocks of homeless camps. This city used to be absolutely beautiful, with its gorgeous views, amazing weather and generally friendly people (though for the friendly part that stopped like 25 years ago) and I've had to watch the Democrats destroy my city and absolutely frick our economy with nothing I can do.
I can't afford to move, I don't have the money, thus I'm stuck in this shithole that didn't used to be a shithole.
I'm not saying Red states are utopias or something, but holy frick as someone who has traveled the country coast to coast and visited around 26 states, I would MUCH rather be living in a Red state right about now. Of course there are some Blue cities that are decent, but generally larger cities = more Democrat = poorly managed while smaller towns = more Republican = more tight knit communities and friendly people.

There are fairly comfy small towns here that are super Republican in their voting patterns, but there's also a lot of rural poverty. Like you said, it's not a utopia. People seem to actually have more "real jobs" though.
It feels like a bigger structural problem. There has been very rapid urban growth in the cities over the past several decades. But there's a lot of imbalances in the economy. There's imbalances in the cities, but also between cities and rural areas. I don't necessarily mean between rich and poor, although that's part of it, but it's generally better to have a fat middle class -- like an olive-shaped distribution -- where most people are in that fat middle zone and you have relatively fewer really rich people and relatively fewer really poor people. And you can't just have an economy based on VC cash being wadded up and thrown at Juiceros or other tech scams that doesn't benefit the larger population but employs a lot of graphics designers to make the "concepts" who live in condos in Portland while everything else goes to shit.

Tractors plant off of GPS and can self drive and course correct. They can also monitor soil conditions for what task you are doing. There's imbalances in the cities, but also between cities and rural areas. I don't necessarily mean between rich and poor, although that's part of it, but it's generally better to have a fat middle class -- like an olive-shaped distribution -- where most people are in that fat middle zone and you have relatively fewer really rich people and relatively fewer really poor people. And you can't just have an economy based on VC cash being wadded up and thrown at Juiceros or other tech scams that doesn't benefit the larger population but employs a lot of graphics designers to make the "concepts" who live in condos in Portland while everything else goes to shit.
Oh absolutely, Republicans are not the "answer", they're the "temporary" answer in my opinion. It's quite obvious there's a lot of things fricked in this country and neither party actually wants to fix them, because if they don't fix them than they can continue to blame the other side for the problems and retain their voting base. Red cities are just slightly better than Blue ones in some areas, worse in others, but in my experience I would gladly be in a Red city than a Blue one, I'd just be dealing with different problems.

America is already extremely fricking lucky in how our forefathers basically solved like... 80% of the problems any other country would be facing at this point in their history, it's just with how large and powerful America has gotten, that remaining 20% is now a huge deal and likely unfixable as fixing a problem just causes another problem for a different person. I don't think our forefathers predicted just how large and bloated America could get. There is no one political party that's the answer, it's just about which one can keep us alive until AI can figure things out.
