equal and opposite reactions
the amount of force that goes into the recoil in your shoulder is the same force that goes into the target when you hit it
the person with the plate on will have all the force distributed across the plate instead of focused on one little area
A 54r military round is going to cause much more plate deformation than a 12ga slug, which is the primary cause of tissue damage in a plate wearing target.
correct, you've got ~10x the surface area, but as the plate deforms it is somewhat focused toward the hit. that and the deceleration is greater due to the shorter distance, barrel length vs plate+deformation. could break ribs, not much more.
>the amount of force
Is the derivative of momentum over time. Or the derivative of kinetic energy over distance, pick your poison, the implication is the same:
>If you accelerate/decelerate a thing slowly, you get less force. >If you accelerate/decelerate it quickly, you get more force
A bullet hitting a plate is decelerated very quickly, over the length of a plate plus some miniscule amount of give in the system. A slug in the shotgun is accelerated over the length of the barrel, which takes more time.

I am willing to bet a great deal of money that I could glue a 12ga slug to the butt of a shotgun, shoulder it, and fire without a penetrating injury. If the slug hit the target the exact same way the gun hit you, that slug would nearly remove my arm.

Holy shit, someone else finally said it. The difference is similar to shooting a good old Mossberg 500 vs an AA-12. They're both hitting you just as hard, but one is spreading out that hit over a much longer time. The recoil is hitting the shooter over about 2ms, while the slug is stopped by a lvl 4 plate within 0.05-0.1ms. Backface deformation would absolutely break ribs when it's hitting you with about 20x the acceleration of the gun's recoil.
To this fucking day, its such a commonly held opinion. You cant look at ONE armor test without some dipshit commenting "oh man that would still crack your sternum even with the round stopped"
Slugs are piss easy to stop, large diameter, slow, lead
Good for you to never run into it, but it is omnipresent
I seriously doubt it. Fudds don't know about lvl 4 plates, if they're aware of body armor at all it begins and ends with the flak jacket they wore in vietnam.
There was a guy here a few weeks ago posting his .50 beo AR. He claimed it laughed at your level 4 armor. When everyone pointed out that it was worse at penning armor than 5.56 he switched over to “well it would still knock the fight out of you”
Pretty sure that's only the case if you get hit on the sternum since the impact might be enough to stop the heart. Elsewhere you'll get either some nasty-ass bruises, eternal bleeding or broken bones.
While it is fuddlore, anyone hit with a 12ga slug is straight up not having a good time.
Unironically more likely to be killed by a single punch.
Nah
Are you serious?
I would much rather be punched by the average adult male than be shot with a 12 ga slug.

Damn, I guess picture here is faked
Thanks for clearing it up that getting hit with a round while wearing a plate will be more pleasant than firing the gun.

I never said they were dead, but it is going to hurt, and quite a bit.

>could break ribs
But DOES IT?
Is there a SINGLE documented case of this happening through a hard armor plate? Or is this yet more fuddlore?

The force received cannot be greater than it was when fired, simple physics.

Anyone got that vid of them shooting a FAL point blank at some steel armor turtle suit and the dudes are just laughing?
That’s Richard Davis
I've done worse to myself slipping on an ice cube.
Said nobody ever.
>inb4 but...
The voices in your head don't count.

More like said every fudd ever

>.50 beowulf
What does that have to do with a shotgun?
>nobody ever spouts fuddlore
>I saw this guy spouting fuddlore
>that doesn't count, it's slightly different fuddlore
valiant attempt at deflection, anon, though a failed one. still waiting on your assuredly *fascinating* explanation about .50 beowulf.
>t. Has never seen the shockwave from .50 BMG kill someone with a near miss
>Said nobody ever
I've seen people unironically use that exact statement on this very board a concerning number of time
Preformative hysterics will NOT make you a woman, thoughbeit.
isn't there a clip of that cop getting shot by some zoomer with a slug got done fucked if it weren't for his partner?
what if i wear a lvl 5 plate?
I'm pretty sure 12 is a bigger number than 5.
then you will be at the mercy of level 6-10 chads, until the DLC comes out where levels past 10 are possible but require extreme autism to grind to.
There’s a Paul video of slug versus IIIa

>eternal bleeding
What runes are you crafting onto your slugs?
Some dank and cursed shit. Old Enochian.
You need to start with some voodoo shit, hit someone while shooting a doll.
You can't have level 4 plates everywhere, though. Unless you're shooting at headless floating nuggets 12ga is good.
