I got a pair with a some stupidly expensive lenses after I asked the eye doctor what they could have that covered pieces of spall coming back off steel. So far so good, not even scratches from some gnarly ricochets, but I always wonder how they'll far on a catostrophic pistol malfunction.
Need to get some Rudy Projects with my perscription, but holy hell the first regular pair were stupid expensive.
You can get some decent prescription safety glasses for not a lot. Had a set made with mid-grade coatings and a average looking frame for under $100 shipped.
in 2019 i started wearing ffp3 filter masks in some indoor ranges, mostly where ipsc is being shot so i dont have to inhale all that lead dust over time.
people made fun of me, but than came covid and they asked to buy masks from me which i gladly sold for 10x my buying price.
I mean you are better off. No lead is better than less lead. If it is breezy, you should mostly be fine. If it is comfortable to wear some sort of N95 or even a P100 for maximum protection, then I would say you should. In short, you shouldn't be fricked, but stay safe out there.
There does seem to be at least a slight breeze every time I go out there. I also wash myself thoroughly once I get back. Seems to be working just fine because I haven't had any changes to my health. Thanks.
>shooting outdoors, a place with infinite airflow and space, has less chance of lead inhalation than shooting doors
No problem. Very good idea to wash yourself thoroughly as well as you do not want to spread lingering dust anywhere or expose family members. I would suggest to have separate range clothes if possible. If not, at least throw the clothes you had on in the wash when you get home.

All of this is doubly important of you have little kids in the house > If not, at least throw the clothes you had on in the wash when you get home.
Think you need to wash them as a separate load from everything else?

certainly that is the safest. Throw some soap in the prewash as well while you are at it. Keep your kids safe.
You'll be fine. Ignore all the babies who think shooting indoors once a month will cause serious lead poisoning.
Your father and everyone before him was probably exposed to more lead in their lifetimes than we will ever come into contact with and they turned out fine (relatively). I'm not saying lead poisoning is good, I'm just saying that most people really overreact to it and think that shooting their guns or having primers with an extremely small amount of lead will kill them. Meanwhile Bubba is smelting down wheel weights in his garage with the door shut, uses lead sinkers when fishing, and doesn't wear a cuck muzzle at the range and yet he's fine.
Basically, don't be a b***h. See a doctor and get checked if you are concerned about lead poisoning.
Lead is one of those things society decided to myopically focus on waaay past the point of diminishing returns instead of turning attention to other equally dangerous things you're exposed to everyday. Same story with asbestos.
There has been no safe amount of lead that can be inhaled found. Literally any measurable amount above zero has been shown to have an effect on humans. Also the amount of lead in the air in this situation is far more than most other common sources. Feel free to keep huffing it though.
>muh leads
Dude i bite the fishing weights down on my line instead of using pliers. And im fine.
You should wear them while doing a lot of things, working on cars, yard work, certain power tools, etc.
I used to not care until I had a really close call with a rock bouncing off something and smacking my face when using a weed eater. A few cm to the left and my eye would have been toast.
Eyepro is cheap insurance to protect something that is irreplaceable. Same goes for earpro.
I came to a similar conclusion when I accidentally got comet bleach in my eye while cleaning my bathroom one day. That was not very fun and now I wear them when working with chemicals that could damage my eye, as well as when working on guns or other projects.
I had a range rental glock explode in my hand before. The entire thing practically turned into glass. Turned my right hand into hamburger meat and I had pieces embedded into my glasses. I always wear glasses now.
I just wear my normal glasses, they fix my astigmatism for red dots, and since this isn't 1950 they are polycarbonate and can withstand being hit by shit
Although I have considered buying a pair of those prescription shooting glasses, I just wish they made ones that weren't moronic looking or in camo patterns.
Just make a fricking normal looking pair of thick frame glasses that are reinforced against shrapnel and they'd sell like hotcakes
Not all polycarbonate lenses will stand up to a direct hit. They will at least stop residues and other blowback getting into your eyeballs.
You can actually get normal looking glasses with ANSI Z87 rating. Mine look exactly like my normal pair, but with rated lenses and the addition of removable side shields.

I tried shooting in an indoor range. I didn’t like it. Uncomfortable. The booth walls made the blasts reverberate physically. I just couldn’t wait to finish my box and leave.
I've seen too many ricochets and failures to feel comfortable without eyepro when shooting, or even working with power tools.
Sight is your most important sense. Risking it to look tough is fricking moronic.
They made us constantly wear them when we were training for anything while I was a conscript, which sucked because they kept getting dirty and the second the sun started going down they just completely fricked your vision. Dusk borderline became night and if you as much as dared pulling them down you'd have a sergeant on your ass about it.
Masks while shooting makes sense, not the pussy surgical ones, real ones like you’d wear in construction. You’re constantly exposed to small amounts of lead while shooting, why not mitigate that?
You have no clue how infinitesimal the lead dispersion is when shooting. If you're masking up for that I hope you're also applying sunscreen whenever you expect to be outside for ten minutes or more, just for consistency's sake.
Nah i wear prescription glasses
leeeeettt's fuuuuck
ill try anything 6 or 17 times

cheeeecccccckkedddd!

I'll look into that anyway for when I inevitably eat shit again and break a frame.
also this
i don't pay extra for polycarbonate lenses for nothing
>first time shooting
>paratrooper fal
>don't put safety glasses on bc muh prescription glasses
>get a massive scratch on one of the lenses
>frick
No, because I shoot innawonds. I wear safety glasses there, though.
NAH i SHOOT NAKED, ITS ALREAYD LIKE 144 DEGREES
>tfw you forget your PPE fanny pack and have to use a range loaner rubber

People really do not understand how much lead you can inhale while shooting, good on you for actually caring about lead exposure.
I shoot outdoors and shooting outdoors supposedly reduces inhaling lead by a good bit compared to an indoor range. Am I fricked?

you aren't making any sense anon. I think that the lead is already starting to get to you, seek help from your doctor ASAP.
>muh leads
Dude i bite the fishing weights down on my line instead of using pliers. And im fine.
It's absolutely miniscule amounts of lead being deposited into the air when shooting...

lolololololololol This joke writes itself.
inb4 cope posts below.
Slather up that sunscreen, Safety Sally.
Yes, sometimes I practice one handed and shooting from the hip, so I get hit with brass from time to time
Am I understanding you correct in that you are retention shooting steel from contact distance?
She’s got nice arms
i have some good news for you anon 🙂
No…no I got BCGs.
I'm a chud so I wear glasses every day normally
Yes. Also as a lefty there's a risk of hot primer when firing certain rifles setup for a righty.
You should wear them while doing a lot of things, working on cars, yard work, certain power tools, etc.

Why would you go on the interwebs just to make up a lie like that?
I don't shoot at the range. I'm not a poor fudd homosexual. Buy some land, have a beer and shoot what you want, how you want. ROs can suck my dick.
>I don't shoot at the range.
Das rite. You do your shooting at schools, like a real Merican.
My safety Sunglasses.
Keeps both the sun, work debris, and shrapnel, out of my sensitive eyes.
The future is now, prescription glasses are polycarbonate
Not all polycarbonate lenses will stand up to a direct hit. They will at least stop residues and other blowback getting into your eyeballs.
You can actually get normal looking glasses with ANSI Z87 rating. Mine look exactly like my normal pair, but with rated lenses and the addition of removable side shields.
Only when digging into the crab legs.
Or digging into the range trap.
prescription glasses
I get to look way more effay than OPs pic
Safety glasses are for pussies, unless you’re shooting metal targets from <3 yards like an idiot
I just wear my normal glasses, they fix my astigmatism for red dots, and since this isn't 1950 they are polycarbonate and can withstand being hit by shit

I wear sunglasses during the day and nods at night, no real eye pro
you have safety squints for a reason the safety glasses are just an unnecessary device created by the israelites to extract money from your wallet

Nobody likes shooting at indoor ranges they're just what you can go to easy when you're on your lunch break from jerking off under the desk at work.
I do, but I would rather not, I appreciate them when someone is shooting a revolver though
I've seen too many ricochets and failures to feel comfortable without eyepro when shooting, or even working with power tools.

and gloves.

Only during sex.
Mandatory in France since one guy lost an eye in 2016. It was fricking horrible when mask wear also mandatory at indoor ranges.
Edit : grammar
>people wearing eyepro
Okay fine
>people wearing masks
Did I step into fricking Reddit?
