soory to say, OP, but ideally I'd have a bow and a couple bundles of arrows and a good shelter- but I am not in a place to really hunt hare. My best bet would be small birds with a pellet gun, but even then I would be worried about diseases since it's not exactly a preserve here

Why? For the same weight you could take an ar15 and 1000 rounds that can take down deer, and still give you 5-10 shots per day.

Depends on what you're doing but for 99% of PrepHole activities you can use a 100 or 200 weight fleece and thin 15D/20D windproof+silnylon poncho or a thin shell like a froggs toggs, or a Gatewood Cape, with a puffy jacket for stationary. and be much happier than if you'd decided to bring 20kg of denim and soggy wool

Well it's my mothers brothers land now that my grandfather died. But land there is so cheap that I'll just buy some between that ranch and the nearest city which is near where my parents are retiring. I only want to keep 1-4 head of cattle but my uncle can help me with castration and shots. I also want some chickens and a greenhouse. But I'm in tech and so is my wife so we will be remote working as little as possible and primarily eating food we raise and grow.

so 10 boxes. By the way I have illegally killed a deer with a .22lr You definitely could hunt one with a .556. Just don't bump it after a lung shot.

                Uvo11

You're right. The correct answer which I can't prove over the internet is that 5.56 is fine for shooting deer, provided you have the right load at the right distance and correct shot placement. Just about any modern center fire round is going to have much more power than a bow, and yet people kill deer with bows all the time.

Both hunting arrows and frangible bullets are meant to wound and rely on bone breaking and the blood loss associated with that movement to cause short-after death.

                Uvo11

OK, another example. White tails weigh an average of 150lbs. If you shot a 150lb man through both lungs with an AR, would you feel confident he would stop moving quickly? That's before you consider shooting a deer load in your AR.

I cant into this fricking conversation. Ive seen pictures of bow shots that cut straight through every rib and out. And frangable ammo is used on the range so as to not penetrate(it designed to desintigrate on contact), if you hunt with it youre a fricking moron.

The meat you really want is nowhere near the lung shot. You absolutely can hunt with a hollow point. The lungs are nowhere near the backstrap, rump, brisket.

                >You absolutely can hunt with a hollow point.
Yes, but hollow points and frangible ammo are two different things for different purposes.

                >I have killed a deer with a .22
Yeah, you can kill a bear with a .22 if you shoot it in the eye 10 times. A better gun for deer hunting would be a .308 or a 12 gauge for general purpose. Plus it’s less suspicious than carrying around an AR and the Remington Freedom Bucket.

Just shoot the lungs. It's about shot placement. All of the boomers who tout large rounds are silly. Plus you are going to be shooting far more birds, squirrels, rabbits than large game.

A lot of states allow .223 for hunting medium game. Hunting with even a 9mm handgun is technically legal in some states and people have actually taken deer with it. That's doesn't mean you have to use those, but you can if you need to.

I feel like this was written by a dad with much more experience than me.

The part about socks and underwear never would have occured to me. Also I skipped salt for some reason.

The only things I think are too much are the spatula, you are probably going to be using it as a generic metal tool rather than an actual spatula, not sure whether I'm underestimating the level of comfort you will achieve, or you are overestimating.

Also, why Iodine instead of alcohol? (Which I also skipped)

        Uvo11

The first two items are complete moron. A .22 is a terrible choice for bigger game, and its only advantage is that the ammo is light. Except he brings 5000 rounds of ammo, enough to shoot 25 rounds per day for six months. Crazy.

I would rather spin a roulette wheel of random center fire rifles 1890-1990 than take his loadout.

Saw, whetstone and raw metal to make knives, hatchet, arrow heads.
flintstone for heat, cooking and firing clay, possibly melt metals
Seeds (Textile, woody, starchy, oily, protein, medical)
    Medicine
Emergency satellital phone with a couple of batteries.
    Baby chicks, horse(s), dog? sheep?
Layers of clothes to live through the first winter.
Big tiddy gf to produce offspring, have sex, keep warmth and sanity.

Also probably a backpack that's secretly a blanket.

I didn't bring bottle, so the first thing is to make a fire to make some clay bottle. Probably should bring a water bottle since that will take more than a day.

The hardest part is the metal, if the saw breaks before I made a spare one, I don't know how I would work the metal.

Also, the metal is the only non-renewable material, unless you figure out how to extract, melt and smith iron from the ground, but I'm not a god.
