Well the US Army did request such a design from DARPA and received the following reply:

A sensitive directional mic+sound analysis software+a gui to dislpay the direction

However most people make way more noise than their heartbeat, even when they're "being quiet" so it would be a bit pointless. Also most combat happens at ranges that would mean that it would be useless. IR is a much better solution to the same problem

With enough processing power you could maybe filter out the not relevant sound frequencies.

No. Stop posting moronic shit like this in every thread even vaguely related to DSP.

Here is one LOS PID solution based on laser interferometry. https://www.technologyreview.com/2019/06/27/238884/the-pentagon-has-a-laser-that-can-identify-people-from-a-distanceby-their-heartbeat/
Here is a detection system based on microwave radar that can detect without direct LOS: https://www.vice.com/en/article/gvy937/nasas-long-range-heartbeat-detector-could-monitor-astronauts-in-orbit
and a paper on a similar system:
              https://www.hindawi.com/journals/jhe/2018/4832605/
article on similar concept but different method:

human detecting wall penetrating radars have been in use for years, far more advanced than heatbeat sensors

these generate a wide range of radar frequencies and listen for a pattern associated with human flesh

Thing is that they actually solved the problem and they haven't had those incidents after that while the US has a school shooting every other week.

It's obvious you're a paid shill if you bring up 20 year old news to try and save face for the US.

same models are used by fire departments to rescue trapped people. those are 1d radars but 2d/3d exist too

I wonder how well a nigrigged version of this would work. Basically, mount a smartphone so the camera has a clear view of the reticle and attach via usb-c to something like the Nreal AR displays.
