Would you have been sued and jailed by the ATF if you were an enlisted soldier in Iraq, Afghanistan in 2001, 2003, etc.

Would you have been sued and jailed by the ATF if you were an enlisted soldier in Iraq, Afghanistan in 2001, 2003, etc. and sawed off a shotgun and fought against insurgents with it?

I doubt they would have jurisdiction there let alone have a presence to investigate any NFA violations. Think about that photo of a Marine with a PPSH in Iraq. Unregistered machine gun not issued to him for duty. No ATF issues for him.

    hnmm well let me check
nope, as it turns out, Afghanistan and Iraq are, in fact, not the United States. You can tell because they're on the other side of the ocean and also different countries. An easy mistake to make, but I'm glad I could be of assistance 🙂

If one of us pulled out a sawedoff while on patrol our squad leader would've ripped our fricking head off. Real life isn't a video game. Imagine the absolute shitstorm trying to explain to command why one of your guys shot an Iraqi with an 'illegal' weapon. If it wasn't issued, we didn't carry it. Of course all of this applies only to 3rd Infantry Division. I can't speak for any other.

Fun side note: My plate carrier was actually forest BDU. As you can see, we were issued DCU vests but weren't allowed to wear them because "Not all of the units were issued them and we have to have uniform cohesion."

Plus if shit did hit the fan everyone would 100% pin the blame on whoever was most responsibile. Your friends would call you a moron when interviewed, your officer will call you a moron when interviewed, etc.

My friend did bring his NAA Derringer with him. Just a little .22mag. He managed to get it in country no problem but they searched the hell out of us on the way out. He wasn't feeling good about his odds so he hid it deep into our M113. I can't remember if he ever managed to recover it. I think a lot of our vehicles actually didn't make it back home. They either stayed in country or went god knows where.

even if they could I doubt they would care since you would be in bumfrickistan, shooting some guys dog is higher on the priority then bothering some weirdo marine using a sawed off shotgun in said bumfrickistan op

Wouldn't come up since any frickass that's rolling around Iraq with his sawed-off isn't going to see any significant amount of combat.
The only way that thing is getting fired is negligently into the wheels of your vehicle, guarantee you that the guy wouldn't get int trouble, because for some reason it'll be an Lt who has the fricking thing.

The fact you specifically mentioned the years 2001-03. No, nothing would of happened. Command would of been like "oh you guys have a dude with a kbar kill." Well here's a photo of some shithead who had one of our LCpls blast point blank with a sawed off 12ga. The more that men are dying the less command cares about how other people are killed.

Is this because of the dual rangers in MW2? They aren't standard issue, and idk why the military would let some grunt buckshot some towelhead while in combat.
