Tell me why USA, the greatest military in the world, still got kicked out of Afghanistan by a bunch of AK-47 goatherders just 3 years ago, then
They weren't kicked out. They turned over control to the Afghan government and left. The Taliban didn't come out of hiding until 99% of US forces were gone.
AK is good since the US shat pissed and cummed its pants in response and came up with the M14, which was more comparable to the SKS and survived in service as the main issue only slightly longer.
The AK is or will be etched into the mt. Rushmore of firearms. To say it has its place in history is extremely dismissive.
There is not a single firearm that has put more people in the dirt than the ak47.
the INSAS started out as an AKM on the drawing table. a design that illiterate villagers in the Khyber pass can passably hammer together out of scrap metal, and they managed to frick it in every conceivable way
poop pun intended I imagine. Hate the AK or not, this is arguably mechanically distinct and thus takes the crown of worst rifle. I'd argue the AK isn't bad just antiquated. It's cheap to manufacture at industrial scale, pretty hard to render totally inoperable even through third world neglect, and it'll usually hit a man at combat distances. That is more than can be said for guns with a similar design goal such as the AR-18, its God forsaken British (L85) and Canadian (the dozen or so "not-an-AR15" cope designs) iterations, or this street shitter special.
a1 really was peak. lightweight but with a long barrel for great ballistics. better combat sights due to it being more simple and robust. carry handle optic height is basically what people use today for night vision and cqb heads-up posture. literally the only thing that was an upgrade was a shell deflector for lefties and ambi controls. now... if only they could make a bullpup that was mostly aluminum like ar receivers, a trigger that wasn't shit, and slap a 20" barrel on there, that would make for a nice bullpup. I don't understand why 20" barrels have never been popular on 5.56 bullpups. most people with augs never bought the longer barrels. it would be peak 5.56 without having a musket.
>lightweight but with a long barrel for great ballistics.
5.56 doesn't need a long barrel to perform well. That's just /k/ fuddlore. M193 barely loses 100 fps going from a 20 inch to a 16 inch. Other loadings lose even less. The 20" barrel was as pointless on the AR as it was on the SKS.
not true. not fuddlore. and 100fps is a lot anyways. then consider the muzzle blast and softer recoil of a longer gas system. 16" is LITERALLY cope for us gun laws. that's FUDD.
>better combat sights due to it being more simple and robust
Lol the lead designer for A2 was a combat vet during vietnam. His unit was constantly helpless during engagements due to A1 sights only going up to 300 meters and vc forces shooting at 500+ meters therefore, the basic rifleman was soft locked out of having a steak in the fight, rather relying on bringing a M60 to even retaliate.
>"OMG, AN ADJUSTABLE IRONSIGHT! THE SAME KIND THATS BEEN ON EVERY US INFANTRY RIFLE SINCE 1903? WHAT IF I TURN INTO A WHITE GUY IN AN INFORMERCIAL AND ACCIDNETALLY BUMP IT INTO OBLIVION? IM LOSING MY MIND! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
>AK-47 used for barely a few decades before being replaced by the AKM, which is then replaced by the AK-74 in an entirely new caliber >almost entire service history is by poor countries who cant afford better >SO GOOD
>M16A1 used until the 1980s, longer than the original AK-47 was used by the USSR, M4 carbine still in service >M4 carbine still in service by choice still in the original 5.56 >ITS NOT GOOD ITS JUST CORRUPTION
the AKM wasnt even used all that long by the USSR, it was replaced by the AK-74 which switched to a bullet closer in performance to what the M16 used
while the M16 was used by the US well into the 90s and was only replaced by the M4, which still uses the same round as the M16
>1956 >1974
Nearly 20 years, and wasn't fully replaced by the 74. Meanwhile the M16A1 only reached full adoption by 1975 and was replaced by the A2 in 1982.
>complains about the AK47 and AKM >M16 was replaced by the A1 after THREE YEARS >then the A2 >then the A3/4 >then the M4 >then the M4A1

Truly a based rifle, those handguards are SEXOOOOOOOOOOO.
This was the worst version. It didn't have the forward assist that the updated m16a1 model did. They would jam in Vietnam, is what I was told by a vet. The forward assist was a huge improvement. And you got used to your routine of loading a magazine to include releasing the bolt carrier to chamber a round after loading a magazine. The tapping the forward assist just behind the ejection port with you hand to make sure the bolt fully seated the round. Especially if you got shit in your rifle like mud or what not out in the jungle.
That's a Colt 601. Not an M16. M16s were bought by the Air Force and the only differences were that they didn't have the forward assist and the BCG didn't have the notches like the Army M16A1s
>They would jam in Vietnam, is what I was told by a vet
this has been debunked a bajillion times
when they first introduced the m16 they basically torpedoed it as much as possible, gave it shit ammo, no cleaning kits, told soldiers it didn't need cleaning, etc
Yeah this one wasn't that good. At least not under harsh conditions. Urban combat probably only. But it was the M16 version 1.0. they got feedback from the field and updated the upper to include a forward assist on the M16A1/version 1.1 update.

piston ARs are GOAT as long as they get rid of the moronic charging handle and push forward assist
Ak47 hasn't been made in nearly 70 years, anon.
AKM is also VERY old, no one's out there drilling and tapping AKMs to put optics on them (because the AKM doesn't have the dove-tail sight mount) so your "modernized, riced out" comment is kinda moronic
TL;DR no one uses AK-47s or AKMs anymore.
The A2 is an excellent rifle. The main issue is its length but in the 80's and 90's many rifles were still quite long and for regular grunts it was fine. It's accurate, and its the smoothest shooting thing I've shot in 556, and the velocity is perfect for the round lending it to fast straight trajectories, and the sights are decent. I'm assuming you're referencing AR's as a whole and not just the A2 because you're a dipshit and don't know the difference, in which case you're wrong. The ak74 and 545 could be argued to have been the superior choice at the time historically and sexually, and I might agree though I hate AK sights outside of very close shooting.
AK sights are literally the easiest thing to fix. Dudelmao just move the backpost further back to have a longer and more accurate sight picture. I wonder why Kalashnikov didn’t fix it on the 74 honestly
i actually ended up finding that & doing that on my own, because i didn't have the tool
the main problem with that method is that it likes to slip a lot though
it looks cool, that alone means it cant be the worst rifle of all time

pic unrelated
I trained on an A2 at Ft. Benning. While the rifle is capable and all is ok my two complaints were:
1) the forward grip was heavy for what it was
2) operating the D-ring was always problematic
As a civi now, would be cool to own one for the nostalgia.
