Of I had the money, absolutely. It's pretty far down the list of shit I'm splurging on, though.

been thinking about making my maverick 88 a retrograde 88

I've got one. It's pretty tight. I like the 8+1 capacity and the fact that I can fix a bayonet to it for larping purposes.

You don't got boomer cash. 20k auctions for war time real trench guns.
The retrograde is amazing, a friend owns one and its so fun just a blast of good quality (mossberg duh) and aesthic. Only downside is no slammy blammy

only retrograde I would bother with is a 590a1 which is the same price as an m37 brand new. the m37 is all steel and there is a company that makes the bayonet lug for $150... You're not really spending much deeper going with the real deal... the lugs should fit any 12ga barrel but you could hack down a Winchester 1912 or a savage 620a for something historically accurate and both of those can be had for under $1k last time i looked.

An M37 is not a real trench gun.
A trench gun is from WW1.
          Which are absurdly expensive.
M37 is cool but not good if you actually want to throughly enjoy shooting it.
590A1 retrograde you get modern build quality with the ability to repair it without a smiff (literally the most slaw jawed sister fricking hick can take down a mossberg)

No welded extractor arms, no obscure M37 parts, no bullshit and you aren't limited to lead shot either (as is the case for 90% of old shotguns) so you can go hunt birds with it.

I bought a 500 retrograde recently. If I could do it again I might look around for the regular 500 with the combo security / field barrel because I want to pick up a 28in barrel for mine right now and they're nearly $300 after taxes and shipping.

Own one. Solid for what it is (sloppy beat around pump shotty). Thinking about getting a 590 Mariner (stainless and composite )to keep permanently in my bug out cabin.

I love wood on any gun, but the Retrograde always feels off to me cause its a modern gun with modern wood and a heatshield slapped onto it. If I want a set up like this id rather be going for more of a 1970s set up instead of just a modern one with wood. Like if your goin modern, go all the way, and if your goin wood, go classic

Some people don't want to bang up their "classic" firearms. The retrograde scratches the wood itch (best if your finish it though) without having to worry about it getting banged up since its just another mossberg.
