    Society has failed us.

“Cool” turns on the unit that produces cool air. “Fan” just circulated the air in your apartment with no cool air being fed into the system. When it’s on “cool” the fan is already on so it’s moot. What the frick is wrong with you - I knew this when I was 12 years old. What other life skills are you having trouble with?

But the air circulation itself might have a cooling effect and the cold button was just a way to expedite the process with more blowing

Are you moronic? Do you have any idea how AC works? Fan will not cool you. Cool will cool you.

      No.

      >When it’s on “cool” the fan is already on so it’s moot.
You're half-right. On most systems, the "Fan" option rune the blower at a lower speed than the "Cool" speed.

You have zero understanding of how this works. The fan only option is to help keep air circulating in the living area to even out the temps between rooms. Fan does not and cannot in any way lower the temperature of the air that's blowing. Cool actually runs the air conditioner which does lower the air temp. The Cool blower speed is higher because cooler air is dense and therefore more difficult to move.

Get a better job so you can afford to run the AC you fricking useless rentgay.

    >will the HVAC system cool my apartment if I don't set the thermostat to do so?
No, no it won't, all you'd be doing is mixing the air. You may as well just pay the extra cash, most of the power involved is used to blow the air around, anyway.

protip: get a fan along side your AC unit and run it 2 degrees higher than your usual settings, pure AC cooling is some luxury bourgeois shit

Why do people act like running the AC to a decent temperature is some thing that requires money to do? I’m a poorgay myself but I still usually keep it at 71-73 in the summer. It’s hot AF where I live too. I’d only be saving $50-100 by keeping it a few degrees higher, and it costs me that just to go out to eat or make a Walmart run once. Why would you not just pay that to be cool and comfortable in your own home for an entire month?

I literally said that OP would be best off just biting the bullet and spending the cash.

increased heat transfer when fluid moves faster along a solid (though this could be detrimental art above 36,6 C), but most importantly increased rate of sweat evaporation, so increased latent heat transfer
