According to who? Their uniforms still use twill fabric, which is outdated compared to ripstop.

Dual nods, suppressors, high cuts, peltors, HK416s.

in force recon, sure. That stuff hasn't quite trickled down to every other unit yet.
        Now, the Army, for comparison.

101st here. We are NOT using any of that gear except the new IHPS

bro what? We've got the new nods, thermals, ISV's, all the highspeed (read: buggy and fricking annoying) netwarrior stuff
What brigade you in? Are you a POG or something?

My unit has the newest plate carriers, newest helmets, newest NODs, the IHPS, a handful of IVAS', and most notably, drones at the small unit level which the Marine Corps does not. Are you a fricking commo dick or something, there's no way you're in a line company and don't at minimum have the new NODs.

Why would anybody choose to be a grunt in the Army when Marines get much better kit nowadays?

Because "joining a branch with less actual training and deployment opportunity" so you can carry a suppressor around is moronic.

All of what I listed is standard issue for all infantry marines. The XM7, the optic, and that army HoloLens headset aren’t even in service yet, and the IHPS is only for a few infantry units so far.

Twill and ripstop are used in different situations and both have pros and cons.
      They can't be compared.

If thats true, then the army/airforce would have used the two fabrics. There's a reason to why the airforce switched to ripstop in their ABUs. Specifically because Twill tends to be heavier, not breathable and lack of wind resistance. Its the same feedback that the military had when they invaded grenada in the 80s. Had soldiers complaining about the twill uniforms in hot environments.

Different jobs. Marines, as a whole, are shock troops used to attack and take territory. The army is used more often to defend and hold territory.

I understand the large scale doctrinal reason behind the differences, im asking why as an enlisted infantryman somebody would choose army over marines.

lmao maybe for MARSOC and Ricky Recon bros. Conventional 03xx guys BUY their own gucci gear because the issued stuff is *mostly* dogshit, and that's only if your unit isn't gayer than AIDS and will let you use private purchase stuff in the field. Nobody at my battalion was issued high cut helmets until right before I got out in 2021. Our cammies still use buttons ffs.

they didn't. the issued plate carrier fricking sucks. the issued plates require soft armor backers to maintain their ability to stop AP AK rounds, but none of the grunts buying JPC's know any better.

at no point in the past 30 years has there been any benefit in being in the marine infantry over being an army ranger.

Joined the Army 10 years ago because Marines were no longer deploying to Afghanistan. If I were to enlist today I'd 100% go Marines over Army. Even if you don't go to combat or do anything really cool at least they get cooler kit and genuinely get to travel the world, as opposed to spending a whole ass enlistment CONUS at one of the shitier army installations.

I suppose it comes down to if you want to be considered a sub human and a piece of equipment either way. Marines you can go on boats and boats go anywhere. The army will probably give you a vehicle that you can throw all your shit on and not have to hike with it a lot of the time.
