That said...couldn't this be explained by air pressure differences in seriously climate controlled buildings? Air pressure sensors are how the altimeters work in phones. Higher pressure means lower alt, climate controlled buildings have higher pressures.

The bottom number means that it goes down _to_ 15m above sea level. You have to subtract these 15m from the 1,616m on top of it which is the altitude on which Calgary is situated.
The hole is 1,601m deep. That's equal to 1 mile.

Could be. But why is there a pattern for these locations. The majority can be found below stadiums, shopping malls etc and in the case of Canberra there's the national parliament building on top of such a hole.
Also: I know one such structure myself. The upper part is publicly accessible and you can see the bigger structure when inside.

I have seen underground structures myself. The biggest one was an underground hydroelectric station. That was huge.

This is the most chilling part of this specific point in time. I've looked into the eyes of people who have not walked this earth in such a long time, that you get physical chills from their eminence.

I think this DUMB map might be accurate. Two reasons for that:
1) We've already found the one in Denver.
2) I remember that I also found one in the the middle of nowhere in Northern California. At first I dismissed it as natural formation. But now, with the map in mind, I think that was another one. Unfortunately, I can't find it right now.
Read the other bread. Some were discussing that question and it looks like cellphones can produce store location data without being connected to the outside world. They then send the collected data away later.
Personally, my suspicion is more like satellite data being responsible for the map showing these strange routes.
The reason is the way the topography goes down. In some sites, the walls are tilted which would indicate a vehicle tunnel. Cellphones notice when you either walk or driving in a car or something. Otherwise it wouldn't be possible for Google to offer different functions for walking&cars.
That means, beside cellphone data, they need other layers of data from something else. This usually means locally measured stuff (at least for the outside), and also data from satellites.
Interruption or propagation delay of the GPS signals received by the phone will give an incorrect elevation calculation.
