You’d have to look out for 1/12 vs 1/7 since it sounds like you want a “modern” A1 with a 1/7 barrel. They make them in both period correct 1/12 and 1/7

I got mine from compass lake, but they clearly bought the upper from someone else and then barreled it and made their own bcg, float tube, sights and handguard.

Yes, but you can just hand tune your buffer weight which is what I did. Works fine for the most part. Silky soft shooter

the forward assist was added with the A1. A2 is kinda fricking stupid with the mass added to the wrong part of the barrel due to fouling at the gas port, the nub being exactly the wrong place and the machine gun/target sights over the 2 position peep (and the fricking burst function).

fal is pretty shit. It was great in the 1950s at shooting Black folk in africa, but those days are long since past.
I had a DSA SA58. It was a solid 3-4MOA gun with good ammo. Total shitbox given what I paid for it. Also it couldn't make it through 4 mags with a suppressor. It gummed up and needed a deep cleaning to start up again.

I think the black polymers and pistol grip trick people into thinking the FAL is a modern gun when it is really closer to the WWII guns than it is to an AR. Of the FAL, G3, M14 trio, the G3 is the only one remotely worth it because it can be accurized, but even then just buy an AR-10. The only thing the G3 has going for it over an AR-10 is that its not worth paying for a whole new rifle
I think pushing the weight of the A1 up 2lbs to get to the A2 was pretty dumb. I like the A2 sights for shooting matches, but imo its kinda a waste when the average US conscript didn't even use his sights like half the time.

I both hate and like Atlantic Firearms. A lot of the stuff on their website really isn't that badly priced, and if it isn't a complete meme, they'll keep it at or a little below market and sway the market back down. All their AK kit builds are pretty solid.
But FRICK them if they get anything that is somewhat popular or even has a meme following, slab-side mags, popular kits, they'll find the highest price on /r/gunparts and roll with that. Which means every other website or gunbroker has to increase their prices on that item by 10-15%.
It's weird back when I bought shit from them in like 2015 they were cheaper than most places, I got a SAM7SF and 1000 rounds of 7.62 for about $1000 then I got 6 Bulgarian mags for the gun and those were maybe $20-25 each. Now just that SAM7 is going for $2000+ for just the rifle and those mags are more than double what I paid.

I bought a cucked A1/C7 Bushmaster (Windham era) and sprinkled on the Brownells retro parts. Pretty good shooter so far and hilariously light recoil after owning nothing but carbine buffered AR-15s previously.
I bought a Colt A2 upper with the 16" pencil barrel originally to do this but I liked the lightweight nature of it so much I just threw on a aluminum CAR stock on a poverty pony lower and called it a day instead.
