>War on terror
Afghan and Iraq war uniforms are ugly compared to desert storm uniforms. >Ukraine Russia war
Same slav shit uniforms but with more nato weapon. Gets boring quick like Serbia.
Because you haven't grown up watching movies glorifying the war on terror or Ukraine. They're also too recent to trigger the "born in le wrong generation" part of your brain.
>Because you haven't grown up watching movies glorifying the war on terror or Ukraine.
Wheee the frick are the movies glorifying Vietnam? This sounds as moronic as PrepHole calling platoon a pro war movie or a literal communist Alan Moore rightwing because he hated HBO watchmen and said American woke culture disturbs him for that matter.
They glorify it by making it look cool, simple as. The sort of person who makes threads about aesthetics of war don't pay attention to plots or messages, they just fixate on how badass animal mother looked with no sleeves or what a vibe it is to have Hueys thumping low across the canopy of a steaming jungle.
alright it doesnt seem like Kubrick said "There is no such thing as an anti-war movie" but i often see the phrase being used with respect to his movies
I should watch Paths of Glory

tbh that wasn't much worse than what they were equipped with
I vaguely remember something like that. I think thats mostly right, its hard to make a war movie without any heros, you have to go full come and see for it to just be 100% unglorified, even then the kid is kinda still a hero
>you haven't grown up watching movies glorifying the war on terror
What the frick are you talking about, we've had 20 years of MENA being the main setting for war films.
None of the essential Vietnam movies were made while the Vietnam war was ongoing, they were made by people who had returned or (more often) never been there at all. The same is doubly true of WW2 films. The GWOT has only been over for a year, we don't have any GWOT films that anybody will remember yet. Maybe American sniper and lone survivor? They were big at the time, but they aren't on anybodys must watch list ten years later.
>They glorify it by making it look cool, simple as.
What movies made Vietnam looked cool? We were soldiers? Green berets? NAM
angels?
Zero dark thirty is one of my favorite war movies, and its GWOT, although i admit its not really your in with the troops typical war movie. It would be a legendary short film if you just did the raid part.
Also, homeland was a good tv series that i enjoyed and a lot of it was ME centered.
>your in with the troops typical war movie
I feel like they don't really do these anymore, at least not for GWOT. Generation Kill was probably the last piece of media that fit that bill. GWOT movies are all about spooks and SOF.

Also i can add the hurt locker, which is absolutely regarded as one of the best war movies ever made

All of them.
>American Sniper >Hurt Locker
Surely I'm being trolled right now, what the frick /k/
>we don't have any GWOT films that anybody will remember yet >Mentions not one, not two, but three absolutely pozzed war movies >Doesnt mention Black Hawk motherfricking Down.
>doubly true of WW2 films
That's untrue though. An absolute shitload of early WW2 cinema involved men who had actually been there. Just the sheer volume of WW2 films ensures that.
Its a matter of fashion. Guys in gwot movies are wearing the same clothes you wear and using largely the same slang you use, using weapons and gear that you are familiar with from news reports, so it cant be simply kino astheddic because you find them mundane. The 90s and earlier are sufficiently removed from what your are familiar with that their fashions appeal to you. tight teeshirts with weak prints, skinny high waisted jeans, aviators, wayfarers, maybe flares on pants depending on the time period.
>Why is Vietnam and Desert storm so aesthetically pleasing compared
Vietnam is peak gay shit, Desert Storm was good, but Russo-Ukraine war is stylistic as frick.
Mostly the uniforms. I liken it to old cars vs new cars. Old Ferraris and Vettes (talking 50s and 60s) we drafted by hand by designers who made the cars look sleek with flowing lines and curves even though they weren’t actually aerodynamic at all. Now everything is designed by computers to maximize efficiency and safety which in turn leads to lots of ugly cars that appear to be trying too hard. I am in no way an expert but modern uniforms were chosen based on some study that ran lots of tests to determine what was the best in whatever scenario they drummed up. Call me a moron idgaf
GWOT is great, Ukraine is bleak because it’s a war between two of the most drab places on the planet, like if a West Virginia mining town invaded an Indian reservation
the meat-grinder was a simpler machine back then.
simple aesthetics are more readily processed by the brain and more likely to be remembered or found appealing
Absolute chad kneeling in the back w/ a belt of grenades...
>vs
Virgin CO on radio who blows himself up the first time he ducks for cover by accidentally pulling a pin on one of the three grenades haphazardly attached to him.
>Carrying a shitgun with no more than a handful of shells shoved in a small pouch
Why the frick do trust fundies on YouTube hate shotguns so much? homosexual like garand thumb tells his zoomers audiences law enforcement and military don’t use shotguns anymore.
>Shotguns are shit because armor stops them
I never got this argument, level III+ armor is easily available for pretty much anyone who wants it these days and will stop pretty much any caliber a civilian can own.
low capacity, bulky ammo, heavy recoil, short range, stopped by 3a armor. inb4 you say something childish like 'leg meta'
Because they can't handle recoil. That's it. There is more than 5 lbsft of free recoil so they can't magdump paper at 5ft anymore.
Shotguns a working class weapons. Military and law enforcement are working class jobs. Garand thumb never worked a day in his life.
I'm sorry frens, I am not discounting his use of a shotgun, particularly in the jungles of Vietnam. Versatile weapon, and smoking device. I was commenting on the outfit / complete lack of equipment the character had; just complaining he probably had literally no ammo on his person. Only three pouches. Two are basically the size of his fist.
Ukraine also has a boost for a) underdog, and b) said underdog fighting justly to defend their homeland, so I think it adds to that "using everything you can get your hands on to fight off the enemy" feeling

You are genuinelly moronic. Of course movies glorify war, everyone knows this
wasnt it Kubrick himself that said it was impossible to make a war movie with an anti-war message no matter how hard you tried?
Did he watch his own movie Paths of Glory?

Absolutely haram, anon. have a nice day.
No him, but BHD isn't a GWOT movie by any metric. Do you know what the GWOT is, and when BHD is set?
i remember liking 13 Hours which is pretty GWOT

Russo Ukraine war just don’t do it for me. It Kosovo War but bigger.
Everything is gay now
because you're a zoomer
I’m not zoomer mudda. You zoomer mudda.
Ukraine Russian war has been pretty aesthetic anon. If you dont like semi-modern war on a WW2 battlefield, idk what to tell you
>aesthetics
Mexican drug wars aesthetics > war on terror aesthetics
Mostly the uniforms. I liken it to old cars vs new cars. I think video games like call of duty and battlefield captured GWOT better than Hollywood did.
>aesthetically pleasing
>Carrying a shitgun with no more than a handful of shells shoved in a small pouch.
Yeah no. Bad wardrobe on set.
T zoomers that watch trust fund babies on YouTube.

>Russia-Ukraine War
>not aesthetic
Please face the wall
Well, one side is really into the Hobo-core looks. I can see some anons being turned off when only one aide is PrepHole as frick.
Because it was killing asiatics
Ukraine is very boring visually
Yeah.
holy shit
"It's good you came in summer, in winter it can get very depressing"
ye its very flat, shame about the buildings tho, some of them were nice
> posts a frame from a Hollywood movie
Gee I don't know.
If you can see soldiers' arms he immediately stops being aesthetic. So Vietnam war is one of the least aesthetic wars in history.
What is Desert Storm's theme song ?
Welcome to the jungle or today was a good day.
As an unironic SOVLgay, I've actually found Ukraine quite aesthetically pleasing.
Ukraine also has a boost for a) underdog, and b) said underdog fighting justly to defend their homeland, so I think it adds to that "using everything you can get your hands on to fight off the enemy" feeling
What did Vietnam era shotgun shells looks like?
