The secret second barrel that gun manufacturers don't want you to know about. This is because the second barrel is too powerful for most people to handle. It's used to fire all of the shells at once. All you need is a firing pin for it.
>Your armor allows you to tank multiple rifle-caliber hits and keep right on operating >Your own rounds have the terminal ballistics of airsoft if you try to use FMJ against a kid in a t-shirt >Miss literal point-blank shots because reticle bloom
I love SWAT 4, but yeah, it's very gamey.
I tried poking with the SDK a while back.
Found the best change I made was making the alt-fire a high spread full auto firemode and tightening the spread on the primary fire.
Made it really good at close range for a very short span of time with a long reload while making mid range combat still kinda doable but leaving longer range fights to the MP5 and revolver that had their accuracy, capacity, and damage tweaked.
You can actually maintain a lot of authenticity with the weapons in halflife while still making it really fun, even if the SPAS technically wasn't full auto.
I can see how the alternate ammo compatibility might be useful for real-life cops who have to shoot things like tear gas or bean bags but that doesn't seem very interesting for a run-n-gun sort of game.
But that said, I'd like to see ammo choices for normal rifles & pistols. Give me the option of loading my pistol with hollowpoints or FMJ's, my rifle with regular ball or AP, etc.
Dragons breath doesn't actually do anything IRL other than make a big scary flash so I'm not sure why anyone would want to use that in a realistic game, though if the game is pushing fiction then you have a good point, some kind of fictional incendiary would be good. Explosive slugs would just be like normal slugs but with an explosive fill inside, those should work fine out of a semi shotgun but yeah, if we were bending realism then making them only work in semi mode would be good for balance.
whats crazy is looking back at the stuff gooseman made for counter strike and navy seals and action half life, dude was full blown autistic about finding out information about guns in an era before wikipedia and youtube and the result is that half of the models dont make any sense when they're animated
Because although half life is one of the best FPS series every created, Valve don't know, and don't care, about guns, instead prioritizing cool factor (which I respect because it's a deliberate move, not an act of incompetence like most noguns media)
Hence; >underslung 40mm grenade launcher on an MP5 >underslung 40mm grenade launcher on an mp7 (shot out of a 4.6mm barrel) >The magazine tube on the SPAS is now a barrel >the weapons selected by an omnipotent alien race as the sole successors of the human arms industry in the future are the MP7 and the USP (HK confirmed to be alien space magicians?)
Any other notable videogames with hilariously incorrect / outright magical firearm attributes?
In fact, it's easy to defend Valve when you learn about how they had to make guns with their back-then budget: they took airsoft, had to recreate it in 3D, and see which one was fitting the best with GoldSrc.
At some point, they had to mix some of the models because the aim was completely wrong in FPS view compare to the render, which explain why you have total insane gun things ingame. They didn't really care, too much to do on the side.
Ive never seen any indication valve used airsoft guns as reference materials, that was more of a late 2000s/early 2010s thing. People modelling in milkshape3d generally just traced over jpegs.
>the weapons selected by an omnipotent alien race as the sole successors of the human arms industry in the future are the MP7 and the USP (HK confirmed to be alien space magicians?)
wouldn't that make sense for garrisons? As a matter of logistics? the tooling and tech is already there. Better for keeping the really good shit out of rebel hands

In their defense, the launcher on the MP5 was sort of a thing. The MP7 one meanwhile is still witchcraft
Yeah, despite the weird shit, there were hints that Valve people knew a thing or two about guns to the extent that they lifted stuff from rather obscure sources. The thing is they just didn't care about making it right. The Half-Life 2 Beta version supposedly had several RL weapons but they didn't go through with it. >The USP was supposed to be the pistol that shoots incendiary rounds >OICW >MP5K >HK21/HKGR9 >Selectable Lightweight Attack Munition (S.L.A.M.) as tripmines >Stingers >Merkava is Combine's main battle tank for some reason >Same with VAB APC and Bradleys
i think it was the right move because basically all of those things are not recognizable failed projects from the turn of the millenium and would have aged like piss.
What the frick is wrong with you homosexual? Having those games be a timecapsule for now obscure weapons would've been really interesting. Like the Bad Company games with the XM8 and that Russian transport they barely used irl because it's Russia.
>What the frick is wrong with you homosexual? Having those games be a timecapsule for now obscure weapons would've been really interesting.
The consequences of turning AR ownership into a cult instead of just it being another rifle you can own
my theory is that Gordon is switching it over to semi-auto and it just jams every time because Black Mesa exclusively stocks plastic birdshot, because you can hear 2 shots when it fires. This is also why the shotgun does so little damage unless you're firing it point blank with the altfire.
You haven't lurked long enough to recognize this is a recurring meme thread where that phrase need not be stated because it's automatically understood.
To make it slightly less of a piece of shit. The Half Life 1 shotgun is genuinely the worst shotgun to use in the history of video games. The fricking single-shot break action 20ga from New Vegas feels better than that slow heap of shit.
HEDP isn't all grenade launchers are for. SWAT can (or at least could, prior to them all adopting ARs) get plenty of mileage out of an SMG that that can also fire smoke, baton and gas rounds
Why don't smgs have the ability to shoot 9mm and 5.56? Imagine how useful it would be to swap from 9mm to ap 5.56 based on the situation. I think cowards have tanked the idea and are keeping it down
So picture this. There is a contrived reason why you're having to blast baddies in a room full of super heated high pressure steam lines. 9mm likely won't puncture them, but 5.56 will.
Shaking my head imagining a fat moron like you trying to kill this genius idea
Mostly because the chamber pressure of the 5.56 would blow up a gun designed for 9mm. Meanwhile, a 9mm rould would struggle to cycle a 5.56mm gun if the buffer spring is calibrated properly.
I was hoping my eyes were playing tricks on me. 5.56 can cover all the use cases for 9mm and having both guns attached means you lose the weight savings from a 9mm SMG.
The only reason to use two cartridges in the same gun is because you can save weight by using the same barrel and sometimes the same feed mechanism. Adds in versatility without significantly adding in weight.

Now that I've taken a better look at it, that pic is an eldtrich horror of gun design. One mag doesn't even fit into the magwell and the feed path takes it right through the barrel of another gun. The ejection ports don't line up and I'm not seeing a trigger.
Is this some kind of horrible photoshop of a video game gun?
frick ya muddah

~~*they*~~ don't want you to know you can shoot from the second barrel
The secret second barrel that gun manufacturers don't want you to know about. This is because the second barrel is too powerful for most people to handle. It's used to fire all of the shells at once. All you need is a firing pin for it.
Should have read the manual.
The manufacturers don’t want you to know this but the 2nd barrels on the gun are live you can shoot them I have 458 kills
Ah yes Franchi, the world-famous Israeli shotgun manufacturer.
Because its more fun that way, and Gabe Newell has specifically stated that realism isn't fun and people who think it is are homosexuals.
Counterpoint: SWAT 4 is fun
SWAT 4 is not realistic.
Realistic SWAT should have numerous teams and easily outnumber suspects.
>Your armor allows you to tank multiple rifle-caliber hits and keep right on operating
>Your own rounds have the terminal ballistics of airsoft if you try to use FMJ against a kid in a t-shirt

depending on what type/how much armor you're wearing this is entirely possible
You're in my spot, sir
>killing civilians or surrendering suspects results in penalties
Not realistic at all
I tried poking with the SDK a while back.
Found the best change I made was making the alt-fire a high spread full auto firemode and tightening the spread on the primary fire.

I long for a game with alternate ammo types that could finally display the SPAS's (or the M3 if you swing like that) main selling point
I think in The Specialists (Half-Life mod) you had the ability to change from semi to pump but it didn't have the ammo types
Perhaps switching to meme loads like dragons breath or explosive slugs. That way you can balance the more destructive shells with firerate
Dragons breath doesn't actually do anything IRL other than make a big scary flash so I'm not sure why anyone would want to use that in a realistic game, though if the game is pushing fiction then you have a good point, some kind of fictional incendiary would be good. Tarkov
Sven Co-op, a great halflife 1 multiplayer mod, sets up their shotgun in this way. Makes for better gameplay I feel.
>Sven Co-op
GabeN also is a fat guy who likes fantasy slop
>w-we did it wrong because it was more fun
obvious cope, they did it wrong because they didn't know anything about guns

This at least is a real thing, but I don't know if the manufacturers were simply inspired by HL1

He doesn't know.
Garmaxxed, actually.

Based, a subtle jab at Israel.

Shame we never got a sequel.

Because it was modified for combat against aliens.
Real answer, that second tube isn't a barrel it's a magazine.
But seriously, lurk more.
>But seriously, lurk more.
oh the irony
I see no "Wrong Answers Only"
You haven't lurked long enough to recognize this is a recurring meme thread where that phrase need not be stated because it's automatically understood.
And just as common is
>I was just pretending to be stupid.
And what does that change? Is that the out you're trying to take?
holy shit lurk moar newbie
>Still maintains he was only pretending to be stupid.
Can you prove OP wasn't some underage newbie that never used a gun in their life?
Can you prove you aren't a moronic newbie? God damn you are a dumbass
>If I call someone else a dumbass enough it'll distract everyone from seeing my own dumbassary.
You are the dumbest gorilla Black person I've ever seen
lurk for at least 10 years before posting you little homosexual
>I have no idea what to do next so I'll call him stupid
this must be b8 I simply refuse to believe anyone is so un self aware
And yet you are the rude one hurling insults like they mean anything.
where do you think you are Black person? Gb2r they love homosexuals like you there
>I am very smart
Stupid Black person, it's a half-life reference. No shit it's the mag tube, where else is the ammo stored?
It's a video game gun so...inventory?
No wonder, that entire line of games wasn't even trying to be realistic.
Pee is stored in the balls
whoosh
Black Mesa stole the Aperture patent for that. They always do that.
because of the hugh's amendment
Because most video-games are made by people that don't know shit about firearms.
Alt fire is actually using semi mode to double tap
I like KHOTOUM sound it makes.
To make it slightly less of a piece of shit. The Half Life 1 shotgun is genuinely the worst shotgun to use in the history of video games. The fricking single-shot break action 20ga from New Vegas feels better than that slow heap of shit.

Literally just a upper swap + removal of magwell block.
>Comes across a terrorist incel wearing soft armor
>Here lemme just swap up-aaaccckkk
Like I said, cowards like you
>I'M WEARING SOFT ARMOUR BRO, NOTHING YOU CAN D-ACK!
>based on the situation
what situation would require 9mm over 5.56?
So picture this. There is a contrived reason why you're having to blast baddies in a room full of super heated high pressure steam lines. 9mm likely won't puncture them, but 5.56 will.
Shaking my head imagining a fat moron like you trying to kill this genius idea

Bro you're not making sense. The image posted is clearly two guns slapped together
I was hoping my eyes were playing tricks on me. 5.56 can cover all the use cases for 9mm and having both guns attached means you lose the weight savings from a 9mm SMG.
