Is it? I guess if you're coming from .308s it might seem that way, just seems normal to me.

      >Is it?

I know it seems like it but fully extend the stock and hold it at your side it's not tiny anymore. It looks like it sometimes. Yeah ARs are handy.

      >it's not tiny
it's only slightly longer and heavier than picrel
essentially the M4A1 killed the submachine gun

        >the M4A1 killed the submachine gun
I don’t think that really happened until 10.5” barrels started being accepted as usable and desirable. Then you have a gun that’s short enough to clear interiors efficiently and natively mount accessories like lights and IR devices.

The USMC considered this a good enough pistol

It was made tiny, so that people could sit inside and jump out of humvees more easily. M16 guys would often get the barrel stuck in the door sills when attempting to dismount.

The M4 was meant to have the same role as the M1 Carbine in WWII, a small rifle for non-combat-arms troops to fill the gap between a full length infantry rifle and pistol.

    Smol gun kewl

Zero Reason we can’t scale down the 5.56 to ~1.8” or so in OAL and use a hybrid case @80kpsi to retain performance and chamber it in a mag-in-grip gun (mp7-style).. 10” barrel, and you have a holsterable mk18.

    Hybrid case 221 fireball basically.

Im 5'6 and think it is very tiny, even g3 and fal are not as big as I expected them to be, follow up shots are a big slower but not by that much. I like the size of the RPK very much

Related question but I don’t want to start a new tread.
Would an M4 of or a 12 gauge (buckshot) deal more damage to a small UAV like pic rel, shooting from 100 feet?

      Anonymous

The 12 gauge would work better. At 100 feet (33yd) the shot hasn’t lost enough velocity or dropped enough to damage hit probability and would likely even hit multiple times.
Look up Paul Harrel’s videos on shotguns-he does a lot to dispel myths and misconceptions about them.
That said, 100 feet is short range for an M4- a decent shooter can go to 200yds on static targets with irons and even further with optics.

        Thanks.
My concern is if the pellets would still be able to deal damage to the internals after piercing the composite skin (or a thin aluminum one).
What would be the effective range for a 12 gauge for such target then?

    I prefer the term "fun-sized."

That's just normal carbine sized. Real guns don't look like the over grown monstrosities in video games.
