You have a low ceiling or ductwork and you scrape your knuckles across it, I guarantee you'll understand why. Also, getting the bloodstains off it is a PITA.

Because people don't have 14' ceilings that echo anymore. With standard houses having 8' ceilings it just looks too busy.
Also this. Its fine for vaulted ceilings but any normal height 8' ceilings you do not want a popcorn texture on.
