Why doesn't this happen more often?

Why doesn't this happen more often? There are thousands of Ex-SOF dudes out there RIGHT NOW with the know-how and firepower to cause all sorts of illegal trouble; yet they're all depressed alcoholics instead of robbing banks or trying to overthrow the government?
Is becoming Cucked part of training?

this incident was just ex-SOF dudes making plans with other military dudes, including a Canadian soldier.

Because they’re mostly stable individuals who don’t need to resort to crime when they get out of the military.

Did you even watch the video or read about the incident? It was active duty Rangers. There was nothing “ex” about it.

Rangers are experts at DA raids using overwhelming firepower and manpower to destroy their target. That's only a tiny piece of the pie when making considerations for attempting to rob a hard target like a bank. They have no CAS, no arty, no ISR, and no country to back them up if they get caught. It's really not a surprise most SOF dudes don't get into this kind of shit because even with all their high speed training the odds are insurmountably stacked against them.

If there are any former CAG/SF/SOF types doing this shit and getting away with it, you won't hear about it because they certainly won't rob something as high profile as a bank. As good of a movie as Heat was, things like that just aren't feasible anymore.

That's why all the kino heists now are in the art world, but they're never violent. Only good armed robbery targets I can think of are criminals. Go after a drug dealer since they're cash rich, have no legal recourse, police won't care, jury wouldn't care if you're caught, and gangsters are all incompetent in a gunfight.

        Anonymous

I guess the difficulty is the fact that a bank has a massive sign out the front saying "Bank" - how do you find an illegal stash of cash big enough worth getting into a gunfight over?

Army vet, prior protective services liason between security company and bank, and current banker here. This is correct. Most robberies amount to some schizoid homeless walking in and putting a note demanding the tellers drawer on the desk. They get less than 25k if they find a bank that even uses the old drawer system and not one that just dispenses for tellers. And that’s assuming they get both drawers. Most only get the primary drawer and that’s under 4k. Cameras are everywhere. Busier centers usually have security presence. Bait money is a thing and so much as touching it activates the alarm. Most successful theft from banks is by yanking an ATM which often have tracking devices inside these days and from employees force balancing their drawers over extended periods of time. The juice is not worth the squeeze. Two most recent robberies were a cracked out nig waving a gun around that didn’t make it out of the parking lot before the cops eating lunch in their patrol vehicle behind the bank (clearly visible to the dude while he pulled up) tazed and arrested him and a Mexican female that did the note routine with three different banks in the area in a couple of weeks and was eventually caught. She was a former employee of one of the banks and knew exactly which drawers and teller stations did and did not have bait. When she hit a different one she botched it and was captured within a couple hours. The most successful thefts I see in the industry are foreigners who cold call old people and tell them their account has been hacked so they have to withdraw their life savings and deposit it in a different bank into a specific account which they immediately empty and are never heard from again. Localgays will do the same thing with lower dollar amounts and gift cards convincing them to buy them from target or some shit and read off the number so they can redeem it online and buy stuff for themselves or pawn it for drug money.

Cash itself is rapidly diminishing. Obviously banks still have significant amounts by normal person standards but these days like 84-99.1% of transactions by value (depending on whether it's more rural or more urban) are digital. Which means any given branch can hold that much less cash. Individualized crime simply doesn't pay particularly well, you can make more with less risk legit. Or at least as part of an organization. If you've got serious military skills and background and want to continue to live dangerously you'd join a PMC outfit or at worst go work for some gray org working for a cartel in south america or something. Bank robbery would be a massive waste of value.

Anon i hate to be the one to tell you this but bank robbing is essentially not productive or financially viable anymore. It attracts way too much attention. Much like mercs for hire who go into Afghanistan to kill random brown people for $1,000,000, that era is flatout done and over with and exists in vidya and film and comics.

    >overthrow the gov
Im sure the SOF guys arent dumb enough to think that their (lets be generous, platoon) force will survive a frontal attack on the White House... that has its own SOF team in conjunction with far more support, far more planning, and backup on such a fast speed dial you'd think the president was personally blackmailing every cop, swat team, and fed agent in a 20 mile radius with proof of them banging a thai ladyboy outside their marriage. Being surrounded and outgunned in a maze like the WH (or god forbid, the President gets in his frickoff bunker and you have to figure out how to get through a giant 100 ton door)
