What's confusing here? I don't even like Russia but I still understand what Iran's idea is here.

Anon, Russia still knows how to do things like make engines, things like the metallurgy has value. Even if they're shit they're a massive leap forward for Iran.
You can guarantee Iran is basically hoovering all ex soviet tech up like it's Christmas for all the support it's been giving. It's entirely self serving.

Iran wants increased trade with Russia in other fields in addition to weapons technology such as fighter jets and advanced engines. It's just realpolitik and leverage. For example, Russia launched an Iranian satellite in August 2022, something which they had previously refused for two decades. They also signed a deal in March 2023 for Sukhoi-37

Between the late 2000s and 2021, Ukraine probably sold more hardware to Iran than Russia did, who had an embargo against Iran with the exception of 2016 during the brief Iran nuclear deal. Russia was never Iran's ally. The USSR armed Saddam and commie insurgents against Iran. Iran never voted in favor of Russia regarding the Ukraine invasion in the UN, they abstained; and two former presidents Ahmadinejad and Khatami had openly endorsed Ukraine against Russia's invasion.

The current war has ruined relations tremendously, nevertheless, Ukraine still has it's military attache posted in Iran which implies there hasn't been a total breakdown. But I've read that Ukraine will pass a sanctions bills barring trade and cooperation with Iran that, in theory, should last 50 years; I bet it lasts maybe 20 years at most.

I’m surprised Ukraine still had any relations Iran after the airliner got shot down in 2020.

Russia's paying out the nose for them. They literally just sold some brand new Super Flankers for a bunch of shitty little moped drones.

Russia got money for it. It's no different than if they sold it India or some other country in the developing world.
Also, the Israeli IAI Harop and Harpy kamikaze drones are just as loud, if not louder. The reason these types of drones are loud is because they fly close to the ground, which also helps minimize radar detection.

Dirka-drones can be taken down by a dude with a rifle. They're basically worthless as anything except noise on a radar screen for your real missiles, and they're not even very good at that.

They're flown in droves knowing well that a lot of them would be taken down. If they were shit Russia wouldn't be using them. If you're saying they're desperate for weapons and will take anything, they would have gotten other missiles but despite reports we still haven't seen Russia use any Iranian ballistic missiles.
Every Shahed kamikaze drone shot down is still an expensive AD being spent which costs several times more and contributes to depleting stocks..

Iran already is a Disney villain, and the Ukraine war is their realization they might as well embrace the whole axis of evil trope.
What is Europe going to do? Iran can't be sanctioned any harder than it already is.

      Europe?
      Israel.

Israel doesn't interact with Iran unless it's to bomb the IRGC. They don't need any prodding from Europe to continue.
Any additional sanctions from Europe are largely symbolic. The sanctions from America, which include secondary sanctions, effectively freeze out any westerner from doing business with them. Iran has nothing left to lose, and they see this as part of a broader shift to a "west vs. the rest" situation with the rise of China. Nothing will deter them.

Money. Oh no not the sanctions whatever will they do?

The Iranian government's entire existence revolves around "death to america". Giving Russia drones is just another way to get back at america.

Russia is one of the few countries Iran can trade with, so if they are buying why not sell. The west already hates Iran, selling arms isn't going to really change it.
