Anyway, more to the point of your question, I have a little over 20 guns. Some are relatively practical (two carry guns for different outfits, a home defense rifle, etc), others are less practical but still get a lot of use (I don't need to hunt with a lever-action .45-70 with iron-sights but it's more challenging and more enjoyable than my optics-laden LMT MWS, I don't need a dedicated skeet gun but it improved my score and is more pleasurable to shoot than my rattling Maverick), some I bought purely because I wanted to own them (my Garand and my Luger are pieces of history, the helical mag on my Calico makes it look cool af). The latter category are no different than the paintings on my walls or the ZX-14 in my garage, owning beautiful or well-made or meaningful objects is enjoyable.

No such thing exists. A carbine or a full sized rifle are going to have extremely different use cases, and that's just getting into barrel length instead of caliber or action.
Pump, semi-auto, break? 28"+,18.5", or something in-between? They're all going to have different uses. I wouldn't take my Remington 870 hiking, but I would take my single shot break action. I wouldn't defend my home with the single shot, but I'll go for the 870.
