What I want is smart technology to be embedded in guns. It isn't hard, we do this all the time with all sorts of other things we just need to resolve to do it with guns.
A camera, some sensors, small power supply, and there we'd be. A gun could know if it was pointed at an approved target in order to fire. If not, the trigger mechanism is deactivated so it can't go off. Those 2 kids would be alive now.

it's not a flawed design
a trigger safety isn't like a thumb safety where you actively engage and disengage a safety mechanism, it's a passive drop safety
when a firearm falls backstrap down the inertia of the trigger will cause it to pull itself, which on a light trigger is enough to defeat the striker plunger and fully pull the striker back and drop the sear - the trigger safety prevents this because the lack of a finger pulling the trigger will cause the safety dingus to arrest trigger movement

The trigger safety is a drop safety. The real safety is the trigger being positively coupled with the striker, so the striker can not possibly move forward without the trigger moving rearward. Trigger dingus requires a finger to first pivot it out of the way before the trigger is unlocked. It’s not a stupid idea or a meme by any means.
